Been trying out of camstudio for windows which seems like a really good program for recording, unfortunately i can't get a decent framerate at all when i try to record while playing Final Fantasy 7. My system probably doesn't have enough power for it, but does anyone know if i could go around this problem by using specific settings? (codec & quality ie.) Here's details on my memory and cpu, which i believe are the key elements in here. Memory Module Properties Module Name Kingston K Module Size 256 MB (1 rows, 4 banks) Module Type Unbuffered Memory Type DDR SDRAM Memory Speed PC2700 (166 MHz) Module Width 64 bit Refresh Rate Reduced (7.8 us), Self-Refresh Highest CAS Latency 2.5 (6.0 ns @ 166 MHz) 2nd Highest CAS Latency 2.0 (7.5 ns @ 133 MHz) CPU Properties CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1725 MHz (6.5 x 265) CPU Alias Palomino L1 Code Cache 64 KB L1 Data Cache 64 KB L2 Cache 256 KB (On-Die, Full-Speed) Are these sufficient for recording or am i just screwed totally... Anyone with more knowledge on pc recording? Would appreciate the help.

In my experience the blobs you get in a level are all randomized on the start of the level and there is no way you can manipulate them during gameplay. The boulder placement however seems to be based on where you put your last pair of blobs before the boulder falls. And i did some testing with left+right & up+down, but they didn't seem to do anything (not atleast during gameplay) Even if there isn't much luck manipulation, you can still plan all your games in advance since the exactly same blobs will fall no matter what, this should give you a bit of a advance atleast :)

Great that someone with better skills than me did this :) Loved the combos here, the way you build them up was so confusing that i couldn't follow it which is a good thing! Also the steady times on each level is great. Definetly a Yes from me! And im cancelling my own submission now. edit: which was already rejected, saved me the bother :D

Having a weird problem with Snes9x (improved v7). Im using a Logitech Rumblepad 2 pad controller and while it works great for playing i can't seem to get hotkeys like frame-advance or pause to work on it. What makes it even more weird is that the emulator clearly accepts for example Joybutton 1 as a new hotkey for say frame advance, but it doesn't work when i try it on action. Any advice how i could get it to work? I've also tried to use the logitech profiler to map pad buttons to keyboard buttons on there, but that hasn't worked yet either. Would be great if i could get this to work. Movie making would be so much easier.

I first assumed i wouldn't like this one so much, because i liked the variety in fighting style in the first version, im glad that i was wrong. The, let's say choreography with the two characters was great, because it made the whole game look so darn easy and very entertaining :) One thing i would've love to see though is the first boss getting knee'd down from the building, but that probably is way too slow. Great work.

Great work on the new version, loved the team work especially the part with the garcias jumping down from the crates at the begining almost looked like you just runned through them and they died from that :) More enemies and still 5 seconds faster? That's just awesome!

Took me a quite a while to get this movie to work, because first it desynced at the fat guys on level 1. But i accidentally found out that you need to set the controller to 6-button mode for it to work properly (had it on 3-buttons). Anyway, looks very promising so far. Zan never was my favourite character in this game, but apparently that old wheezer can kick some ass :) Mona&Lisa battle was great, because i have never saw them get thrown around like that (or at all for that matter). Im not sure if there is any room for improvement, although at some places it looked like you could've punched a few foes a couple of times before grabbing them, atleast that's what i usually do when i play this game. Looking forward for the future updates.

Whoa! Surprising driving lines you took there, especially the last turn where you drove over the sand area without a boost? Is it really that much faster? Never would've thought of it myself! I guess the speed meter is just for show and the actual speed doesn't drop that much, or at all? And also the shocking doesn't slow you down? I thought about it too, but i was staring at the speed meter again :| Excellent job here! Sure people who haven't played the game (or tried to timeattack it ;)) might not be so "excited" about it as it might look dull and easy (probably because of the empty track in practice mode), but it's still a very fast paced game which requires a lot of skill. Yes definetly from me :)

The only Castlevania game that I have ever actually played through and i've been playing this game a lot the past 2 weeks since im trying to complete every mode possible. I've easily wasted over 24hours of gameplay and when i see someone play it in under 24 minutes it sure does make me stand in awe and watch the masterful play and planning. I really loved the shortcuts you took with walljumping, never would've thought those were possible! Also how you handled the Underground Waterway was really a joy to watch. I thought you would use the unicorn+pluto DSS there, but you just ran through the water taking damage like it was nothing :) And speaking of accurately calculating the damage! The battle with Hugh was a pleasant surprise also, because i thought you couldn't bone him fast enough and you would need to switch back to human and dodge his attacks, it was close though! Overall a excellent submission, there were a few points that stroke me as odd, but most of them are quite trivial and im sure that you had your reason for them now that i think about it.

Hehe, kinda was hoping Fusion would be ready sooner ;) I like that one a bit more... Anyway, what can I say? Superb play and a new exciting route which i haven't seen before really makes this a great movie maybe even star worthy if you make a new version without the lag and the minor improvements brought up. Also a Kraid first route would be nice to see, but which ever is faster... do it. Great job and a great game!

In the first lap you are traveling along side with the ledge that usually bumps you and destroys your ship a bit. Would it be wizer to save the super booster for a straight road instead a curvy one?
I didn't quite understand what you ment here, Im travelling near the side mostly after half way of the track where I first after the jump get my ship as close the left side so I can turn my ship better and possibly faster to the part where is the sand area. And in the sand area im traveling just in the line between the sand and the fence which is clear road, but a very narrow one too :) And as Saturn already said, after you get the speed booster the sand area definetly is the best place to use it, because you can cut that part straight without losing speed. I just didn't do it perfectly, because i realized there is no way to beat the world record in mute city without practice mode. I've watched the world record movie and it really is played with almost inhuman skills. If Saturn can beat that even by 10 milliseconds per lap I will salute him for job well done!

In the beginning of the first lap you bounce on the first ship and not on the second one (the green one). How come?
I did this on my first version, I bumped on the blue then the green. It is certainly possible, but for the second version i decided to try a double bump on blue one and that gave me significantly bigger boost, but over a much longer timeline. I haven't measured which is faster, but in this version i did get a better opening lap, although as i said before i might've just played better overall. Also this is the reason why it is impossible to beat the world record in grand prix mode, because in grand prix it is impossible to get a bump from Golden Fox (yellow one which has the fastest acceleration). Although if you really want to play grand prix, then i suggest the King League, because none of those tracks are available in practice mode which does put both you and legit world record players to the "same line".

I would very very much like to see this run happening. Though i have not anything helpful or intellingent to say, i atleast hope you're familiar with all the tricks on http://www.metroid2002.com/fusion/. Other than that, i wish you goodluck! I can't wait to see this run and i hope it's the very first ones of gba runs on this site :)

There seems to be a 100% Tool-Assisted Super Metroid Run at archive.org if someone wants to see that. (sorry though if this is old news, just wanted to point it out) There isn't any zmv file though, only the avi which is 307MB. [/offtopic] Sorry Michael, but what you are planning to do doesn't sound very appealing to me either. Even if you said you aren't going to make it for this site, who would watch a "music video" of super metroid? Well i would :) Just out of curiosity, but would i enjoy it? I doubt.

At Speed Demos Archive: "Best time: 3:57 by David 'marshmallow' Gibbons on 22.08.04" Okay, now it beats the record by 1 hour. Yes (again).

About the only possible fault I noticed was the changing of lanes to grab coins in the barrel rapids thing, it looks as if always going forward would be faster. I'm guessing this was either needed for something I don't know about or a conscious stylistic choice.
Simple - it was to get more coins to earn a frog coin.
Actually, he does collect 79 coins which is 19 more than he really needs to (60 for one frog coin). So he could've skipped the last 19 and not switch lanes at the end, but in a 3 hour movie, were talking about a fraction of speed loss ;) (and is it really even faster? or just another illusion like timed hits=slower) Anyway, low-level & world-record by almost a hour beating timeattack. What is not to like? Definetly a YES.

Yeah, magic is powerful. But it takes a ton of frames to do. Physical attacks happen instantly, which means it can deal damage faster than magic.
But there is a very long delay before you can deliver another blow which makes it as slow as magic. Unless of course you're planning on killing every monster with a single hit including bosses.

Mnnyes, i forgot to mention that wouldn't this make leveling up kind of pointless? Well atleast "normal" leveling where you level up your characters, because I assume you can avoid everything and anything in this game so you wouldn't need high defense or high HP. You could just cast spell Y, X times if you need it to be at higher level before situation Z for example. Anyway, I wouldn't trust so much on weapons on this game, because magic works so much better, this imbalance of magic vs weapons wasn't fixed until the next sequel Seiken Densetsu 3 (which was never released outside japan).

Excellent! I followed the progress on this a bit and im curious whether or not you managed to pull off the floor-falling trick which would allow you to skip the knight trial too? If so, are you going to make a new version of this movie? Anyway back to the topic, this is by far my favourite W&W title even though I haven't even tried #1. I loved this as a kid and I love this timeattack, it's interesting to watch because I know how damn difficult it is to control kuros in this game :) Good way to make the trials a bit more interesting, especially enjoyed 3rd Wizard trial. Job well done!

Maybe I still have it somewhere. I'll upload it if I find it
Please do, would love to see some progress beyond the first boss fight on this one :) I like the game very much, but i was never good at discovering it's secrets though. One thing about the magic system, as i recall the magic & weapon leveling up is quite different from the rest of the rpg's, because the leveling depends on how many creatures you have killed with your weapon or how many times you have casted spell X, instead of based in the ammount of experience you get. And at the end it did get a bit boring to level them up as they required a hundred monsters to be killed or spell casted a hundred times. Correct me if im wrong though, but this is what i remember from last time playing the game :)

Well if you watched the first version (not available anymore), i did bump first from the blue car then from the green car, but this only boosted me up to 360kph~ while in bumping twice to the blue car will boost my speed up to 420kph~ (in a longer time lane though) I haven't measured precisely which is faster, but the double bump on blue did give me a better opening lap time (though i might've just played better) About jump plates, they are worth jumping on before you reach maximum speed, because they will give you a quick 40kph~ boost, you just have to press down to land smoothly. Otherwise they will slow you down and also if you're using turbo booster they will slow you back to 478kph. I have read the FAQ at the F-Zero site linked earlier and watched the videos to learn, but i still can't get even Mute City under the world record.

Aaargh, this game is driving me nuts! >_< I have been playing Mute City 1 for 3 days and im begining to think, it might be damn right impossible to beat the World Record of it in Grand Prix mode, because the guy with world record gets a double bump out of "Golden Fox" in practice mode which is almost a second faster than getting a double bump out of "Blue Falcon". So the biggest problem is the opening lap, but not only that my times don't come even near the world record ones on other laps either. Well anyway, I made another test run which you can download from the same place. Time Difference: +1:53 I think i'll go to the corner and suck my thumb now... Good luck with anyone else trying to make a speedrun of this game.

Test Run, GP Mute City 1 Time Difference to world record: +2:82 So there's still plenty of work to do until it's faster than the world record... A couple of things though. 1) Should the 3 first corners after the first lap be cutted off sharp and tap the accelerate or with a longer curve without releaseing accl. button? Which is faster? 2) Is it a good idea to "hug" the rails after the jump once you have the boost? 3) Still don't know how to perfectly run the last corner...

If you have a good connection, it's a good idea to download the videos of some of the world records as they give out a pretty good idea how to achieve those times. Then you just perfect them with slow-down & savestates :) But some of the world records are made in practice mode, should this be taken into consideration when timeattacking? As in if you make a veryverynear or equal time in grand prix than the world record is in practice mode, can it be considered better?

Last post is almost 2 months old, any news on timeattacking this game? :) I could also take a shot at this myself too once i get a pad that is (which i think is a must for this kind of game) Maybe if different people did the different leagues and it would be compiled into one big timeattack? Possible? Or just a bad idea?
