Is saving Dan necessary for a collectible, or is it its own part of our working definition of "all collectibles"? I vaguely recall that the 10th ribbon might not appear if he's dead -- if that's the case, then it's moot anyway, but if not, speedrunners tend to skip saving him because it only changes the plot. It's possible to collect the Trapmine without actually using it to save him, so the checklist is sorta fuzzy on that particular point.

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I saw the ending on Youtube a while back and frankly I was disappointed in the entirety of Level 4. Teddy was run over, 2edgy4me.

I haven't played this, but looking into it, I get the impression it only has one ending. I think unofficially, people consider every run of a game with only one branch to be "any%". But it doesn't really matter, I suppose.

The Movie Rules page says "Use a good ROM dump if available." Going just by that, then, I'd say that if "VS Super Mario Bros (VS) [!].nes" exists, then the submission will have to be redone on that ROM. Tangentially, I'm kinda unclear on how alternate dumps become a thing in the first place.

Well, the write-up was certainly entertaining to read.

I always understood "softlock" as meaning "the game is technically still going, but you cannot provide any meaningful input ever again (until you reset)". (As opposed to a "hard lock", where the game just Stops.) The scenario discussed here was always called "unwinnable" or "trapped" or "stuck" or some such. It's only in the past few days that I've ever seen "softlock" used this way. From multiple different sources at once, actually, which is odd.

The only reason why this boss is done so soon is that it makes the GBA really laggy (almost half of the frames are lag).
Still not as bad as After Burst! :V (I'm still horrified and amazed that that game literally was over 80% lag. How did they justify releasing that?)

Is there a reason you never attack Heartless on the field? I didn't see anything in the submission text but then I did kinda skim it.

I guess the problem here is more the lackluster rom compared to the run itself, you tried to make it look interesting but the rom is mostly just a pallet swap in the end of the day. Completely unimpressive compared to roms like Super Demo World which I would enjoy seeing more of such quality roms for sure.
Yeah. I actually really like the idea, but the hack needs serious polish. (Musical glitches in the level-completion routine, of all places?)

(For clarity's sake: I was in fact counting myself among the "persnickety nostalgia-watchers".) It's a shame that can't be done, but on the bright side, the bug will almost certainly be fixed eventually, and then I'll have an excuse to watch it again :v

Given that it's an emulator bug, would it be simple enough to republish this with fixed music, if the bug in question is ever fixed? Alternately, is it possible to dump the video with no music at all, and then edit in the music as it ought to be? Even if that can't be the official publication video, the unofficial existence of such a video would probably satisfy most of the persnickety nostalgia-watchers... or it'd satisfy me, at least :v

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. And there aren't all that many other scenarios where it'd be a useful feature, are there.

So the run plays as Sonic to unlock Tails because starting from a save would add autosave times, and that's a reasonable choice but on a real console, you'd be able to take out the memory card after loading the file and skip autosaves that way, right? (I actually don't know how SADX handles memory card removal; I never checked.)

The strategy for the Puyo reskins has been significantly improved since this was initially submitted. (she said with absolutely no intention of doing any work on this game)

How much time would be added by pausing once to get the good ending, anyway? is the good ending even worth the effort if it doesn't really signify any excellence or added effort on the player's part?

I only ever did this on LHM, so I don't know if you can do it with tutorial-breaking, but enemy!Dorcas in chapter 4 won't attack Natalie and can't pass through her, so if you don't recruit him he can block off the enemy forces for 0 attacks per turn.

Is it just me, or does the youtube encode break flicker effects? It's very disconcerting to see you not attack a boss that looks completely vulnerable even though I know he isn't. Even watching at 1080p doesn't help. =/

Do runs get special exceptions of the rules if they look good enough or something?
Browse the archives sometime. You'll be surprised how many times you see words to the effect of "we don't normally allow this but this run is a special case". Well, maybe you won't. It surprised me, anyway. (i realize the argument is pretty much over but i really wanted to say that)

I've always wanted to see Zuma TAS'd. Got bored towards the end, but there's only so much to do in a game like this, isn't there?

Apparently RPG characters can't escape being named A even in the Japanese version. though it is in hiragana instead of the roman alphabet so that is different

Just restating things people have already said that I agree with: 1. This strikes me as an April Fool's joke and I really hope it is one. 2. You already do things like left+right/up+down, memory watching, wall zipping that are technically possible on consoles but too ridiculous to actually try, why is this different?
