I think it has some interesting moments, nevertheless, It would be much more enjoyable without the constant jumping sound. Meh for me.

Does weapon ammo carry between levels? Otherwise, grabbing the sub in level 2 seemed pointless. Pointless Story Time! In a weird way, bla-bla-bla.....
There are no pointless actions in my TAS. If I had a funny picture of a person that shoots himself in the head, I'd post it there!
On the first boss you throw punches in the air two times after the boss dies... is this avoidable? if it is, maybe it is a pointless action. The normal walking speed makes this one a hard game to enjoy on TAS. Sometimes you can see the "defense animation" happening, i wonder if it can be avoided completely.

The game is set to hard, i think what ill be needing the most is a good amount of bullets for the bosses, health can be preserved by avoiding random fights, actually only the bosses can give you some damage and even those are easy to avoid while TASing. Im actually thinking about a GOOD+ ending, but im not sure because on my prevoius experiences at TASing i got different opinions, that's why i would like to hear what others have to say in order to define the route. I played this game long time ago, so i forgot about some important time saving movements like turning around instantly and walking sideways, since this is just begining i really don't have that much work to Redo, ill start over using this technics.
Ahh, well ofcourse I know that you can skip fights with TASing :P, but you know what I mean by the take damage to save time mechanic lol... Anyways, yes bullets are a big must, now that you're running for speed to complete the game as fast as possible... It's needed that you should obtain the Bad+ ending.. Due to it being the shortest ending. Also, if you're experiencing some issues with the sound, and possible desyncs, I found out about this sound plugin which is good for TAS'ing purposes MIDAS PSX SPU I'm needing it for my Spyro 2 100% TAS -> Which highly desyncs after Glimmer >.<!!!! Also here's the link on SDA which might help you save a ton of time http://speeddemosarchive.com/SilentHill.html Though, I have not watched it, so I can't really say much on it, since it would take a while to download :S .. But as for you, it will help you alot :] The endings themselves are: 1) Bad (This ending requires you to fight and kill Cybil and not interfer with Kauffman at the Bar and motel). 2) Bad+ (The ending for this run. The shortest of the 4 NORMAL endings. It requires you to save Cybil with the red liquid and not interfer with Kauffman at the Bar and motel). 3) Good (The longest ending to achieve. It requires you to fight and kill Cybil and go through the Kauffman events at the bar and motel). 4) Good+ (The second longest ending to achieve. It requires you to save Cybil with the red liquid and go through the Kauffman events at the bar and motel). 5) UFO (A special ending unavailable in a new game as it requires the channeling stone and therefor is not allowed for my personal speed run purposes). However, I believe after you beat the game, the new save file say's NEXT FEAR, right? If so, after completing this run... It would be awesome to see a UFO ending ;) The way I see it, there would be 5 categories for Silent Hill 1, each of the 5 endings. Hope that helps, anyway's, I'm trying the sound plugn at this moment as typing this, and it's working good! :) ^ Speaking on that note, I'm extremely exited that pretty soon (metaphorically lol.. Will take months) that my Spyro 2 100% TAS will be completed, and I hope to be helping you on this because I would love to see a Silent Hill TAS :)
That movie you pointed is the one im using to define my route, since it is a real time speedrun im already about 3 minutes ahead of it :D and i mean without the improvements im doing right now, you wouldn´t belive how much time can be shaved off simply by walking sideways :). ill be releasing a new wip later, it looks a lot better now, by the way, thanks a lot for the help!

Thanks for your reply. Im actually starting a Silent Hill TAS, but it feels too fast when i play it back. Even the sound gets interrupted sometimes because of the speed. Im using the TAS GPU version 0.2, cause i don't know where to find 0.3, i hope this doesn't give me any problems. What do you think im doing wrong? why am i getting this speed?

This is the type of runs that make me come as much as i can to check the workbench forum, an absolute "no-waste" Tas Speedrun. Yes, the morphing technique to reach things above is annoying, but it has the charm of being one of those things i tried long ago to reach those places while playing on real time, Awesome work 100% yes.

One more thing I'd like to ask: did you test what happens when L+R/U+D and other weird button combinations are pressed? Maybe ULR or ULD etc etc. I hope there's at least some glitch that can help bypass some spots in the game, especially the jungle maze in the beginning.
Actually i did try those button combinations, but nothing happened, i guess the game has a solid code. or maybe a very simple one.

UPDATE: I finally saw the movie, and it has nothing to do with the game, something that i just can't understand is why they did a game based on a movie that wasn't suitable for kids?

I went ahead and voted Meh... For people who grew up with the NES, and every game that came out was a "big deal" since you tracked them every month - you should remember Platoon. I've rented this game a few times, even borrowed it for a few weeks from a friend, but never made it to the bridge you set the explosives on. It's cool to see the game destroyed so easily. I had never seen the FPS/Shootout/Commando parts before. On that note, good job! On the other hand, the game is rather boring. *The first part is a huge maze you don't fully appreciate until you get crazy lost in there and are running out of men. TAS'ing the game removes the tension the normal gamer feels. *In the FPS portion, do you really need the Compass or the Flares? I never see the flares used, and if you know the map for the Commando level, do you even need the compass for directions? *In the commando level, great dodging, but can you spam grenades faster and use death as a shortcut on that last boss? I'm happy to see it submitted, and I think all games should have a "fastest possible TAS time" listed on the site, but it's really more of a niche game that only those that really grew up on NES or played this way back then would fully appreciate. The youtube videos don't do it justice... other then calling it one of the "worst games ever". I'd try to improve it myself, but as my vote says... "Meh".
ABOUT THE RUN: This game has been TASed on times where you have lots of great games and platforms to make a TAS from, and as music videos, great videos are made from great songs, in this case this game is not that good, in fact, some people felt so frustrated by it (including me), that they actually remember it as one of the worst games they have ever played. Even so, since i first got here, i enjoyed looking at TASes to see games get crushed (like simon´s quest) and discover what the hell i did wrong? what did i miss in order to finish it?, and that's the main reason i choose this game to make a TAS, not expecting much of course, just wanted to share this with other people that maybe, identify this game as clearly as you. ABOUT THE TAS: You need to get all the items in order to advance, i just got the essentials to finish each level. Death can't be used as a shortcut because when you die, you waste way too much frames to respawn, that's why i decided to dodge bullets and just get killed on the last shot. I have rechecked all the above mentioned TAS improvements but sadly, they don't seem to improve the run. Thanks for your comments, even a meh or a no is well received.
