So what's NK's plan with this submission? We can't use a real world image for it, even if we clean it up. The extra image must be generated from scratch, so we don't depend on real world CDs.

Right, which is why I want to actually ensure this is just an arbitrary password option, rather than proper internal mode.

My take on that is that it's not a fastest completion branch, but a demonstration. For the purpose of this concept demo, it might make sense to stop DK3 before the layout loops, because it fits how the other games are played, and it's the only way to make DK3 playthrough look reasonably comparable to the rest. But I may ask opinions of others on this exception.

If there was an easier in-game difficulty that would maximize your health, it would also be a valid option to choose that. However this is just a guideline anyway. The actual problem is the very fact that you basically hard-code your HP to minimum through a password. Since the game stores progress in passwords, rather than unlocks special features, it can't count as unlocking this pre-existing difficulty mode which doesn't seem to exist.

Even then, if all this "difficulty" does is lowering your HP, for such cases it's advised to use easiest:

Have you checked the strats used in this submission? #5993: klmz's NES Donkey Kong 3 in 00:48.00 Would they change the length of this movie?

Something that came up on IRC today, the TAStudio state sizes for C64 games seem unusually large for a machine which has 64kB RAM. I tested a few roms, they seem to use either 0.26MB, 1.04MB or 4.26MB: [...] From that relatively small sample size, seems like any floppy disk image will use 1.04MB, any (raw) tape image will use 0.26MB and most cartridges will use 0.26MB, but some use 1.04MB, few even 4.26MB. Any idea why or how? * There're two tape formats for C64, .tap (which is a raw tape file, shows up as a supported format in BizHawk's Open ROM dialog) and .t64 (which was originally designed for C64s, doesn't show up as supported but still works, it just loads as a floppy image) From the cartridge ROMs I tested, one didn't seem to work, it just booted into normal C64 startup. Tested on fresh Vice, worked fine: "Leaderboard Golf (1986)(Access Software).crt"
Finally fixed! States are within 277KB now!

All I know is that you need a CPU with faster cores rather than more of them, because bizhawk cannot into parallelism. HDD or SSD probably won't matter much, as we try to make saving tasprojects quicker anyways, but SSD won't hurt. As for RAM, just please get above 4GB :D Videocard will likely not matter if you don't need N64 plugins.

If such a SRAM-anchored movie is going to be really entertaining, then just make a TAS. There are no codes/passwords to unlock those levels, right?

What if you unlock them all in a verification movie, and then use that SRAM to actually TAS them all in one movie? Will they all remain the same as they originally were?

Сегодня уже не успею разобрать причину, но вот скрипт для объектов на скорую руку. Download крыса-кун.lua
Language: lua

gui.register(function() camx = memory.readwordsigned(0xffc000) camy = memory.readwordsigned(0xffc002) base = memory.readlong(0xffbec0)-0xff000000 for i=0,500 do this = memory.readlong(base)-0xff000000 if this ~= 0 and this == 0xff633c or this == 0xff654e then x = memory.readwordsigned(this+0x1a)-camx y = memory.readwordsigned(this+0x1c)-camy end base = this end end)
В твоем мувике адрес высоты крысы - $ff656a, в публикации - $ff6358. На спавне всегда пишется позиция $14a, потом увеличивается на 1, и у тебя крыса проваливается мимо пола клетки.

And here's the rule for real: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#RomImageMustBeIntegral So for this submission, it'd have to be tweaked to use a non-arbitrary extra image that meets the requirements, it can even work the same as the image used here. Then we'll judge the actual movie finally.

Yeah the only requirement is easy merging for upstream updates. It will be a fork anyway, we'll just officially adopt it if it works as expected, and them make a submodule out of it. You won't be losing anything after that, you'd still be able to commit to our fork if you want. tl;dr: you don't have to manage submodules, just make the fork work!

Requiring devices that don't normally come with the console or the computer in question, nor with their games, and aren't even among common peripherals for casual use, sounds like using a devkit version of the system or the game: arbitrary requirement that one is not supposed to have to simply play those games. It's a shaky ground, and it might sound simple for simple systems, but with modern ones that support tons of peripheral types and approaches, it will drive us crazy if we allow arbitrary addons.

I'd be willing to take a stab at it if it's really just a matter of re-applying previously written code to rig it back up and then working out the quirks. I assumed there were larger underlying issues with updating it which is why it'd never been done. I already have a build environment for the core configured as I built the RSP update a few months back. Is the list of commits posted anywhere (or could you get it), or am I going to have to dig through the git history?
Oh wow! Please ask zeromus, he said he had the list. If taken in its entirety, most of the commits were to Jabo, which is now dead, so it must be quite doable. You're comfortable with submodules?
