I also think there shouldn't be total disqualification for board game genre for Vault. And I also had this game when I was 8. I hated it, but I saw my relatives play it A LOT, so I like how fast it was beaten here. Voting Meh.

I voted Yes for maximum difference from the any% run, and I agree that "no subweapons" should be put before "pacifist", then the goal will be really met. But I'm unsure why EgxHB didn't implement improvements we posted in the game's thread.

Oh, out of hundreds of PMs from Sam I'm already not sure about what he said and what he didn't. Sam: if you actually want to upload to TVC, I'll encodize you with no problems.

XYZ: I only linked it to show that indeed pacifist may include other goals that the author feels like including. EgxHB: you forgot to turn left to do a ceiling zip here (and jump ASAP too): I will also check if BushRoot could be manipulated. Do you have a list or RAM addresses?

Spikestuff: do you mean that the author can't host a youtuber all of a sudden or what? If there are any conditions that aren't met for that, tell us.

Since it's already an entertainment-based run, you're free to add a few speed tradeoffs actually.

If he submits it and marks as a "pacifist" branch, it can be called so with no rule violation (as I already stated earlier). If someone doesn't consider it "pacifist", it doesn't mean it's not "pacifist". EDIT: I remembered a trick. If you shoot right before grabbing a platform, it allows you to jump off a frame earlier (no need to wait). As long as it doesn't damage enemies, I believe it can be used.

Here's another variation of Pacifist: [2104] NES Castlevania "pacifist, minimalist" by Grincevent in 12:53.41 As for "no arrows", the goal is to not use any special gas at all, so it needs clarification, which however could be done right in the submission thread.

I'd say, made a solid submittable run without arrows, then (as Chamale did) send a run with arrows as a userfile, and see whichever is preferred and accepted.

There seems to be this concept that the TAS showcases at the GDQ events need to do something special, something never seen before, something that has never been shown nor attempted before, something that shocks even TASers and regular visitors to tasvideos.org. It's like not getting a standing ovation would be considered a failure. This year this idea went so far that there actually was not a single actual speedrun showcased, even though it's supposed to be a "tool-assisted speedrun". Personally I don't see why that has to be some kind of necessity. Just plain regular old TASes, run on a real console, are awesome enough, when the game and the TAS are chosen appropriately. Just take eg. a glitchfest TAS (like the Megaman one), and it ought to be awesome to watch. Not every viewer has seen TASes before. Especially not run on a real console. Of course I don't know if the event organizers will accept just a "regular TAS" for the event. But if that's a concern, why not just ask them? Make a case that 1) it's actually the very idea of TASing, and 2) a cool-enough existing TAS that does crazy things ought to be awesome to watch all in itself. That's not to say there can't be any never-seen-before things at all, but perhaps it would be easier, and even better, if the TAS block doesn't consist solely of those.
Do you mean that SGDQ should be considered, or that the overall TAS block WOW degree could be loosed?

RGamma: What would be a range of avsync revisions that require GapFix? Also, as we figured out the header size, can we reliably use it for all dolphin audio dumps?
Found it out myself again. Dolphin wav header has always been 44 byte. Download WaveFile.cpp
Language: cpp

// We are now at offset 44 if (file.Tell() != 44) PanicAlert("wrong offset: %lld", (long long)file.Tell());
So here's the build of GapFix suitable for any dolphin wav dump (as soon as sample gaps were filled of course, which was done in https://github.com/nattthebear/dolphin-avsync/tree/3825S and later): https://github.com/feos-tas/Misc/blob/master/GapFix.7z The question remains "When sample gaps were fixed?"

I would caution against having a "race", at least one in which the human is destined to lose. If anything could fuel a common newcomer's misconception of TASes being intended to compete against Unassisted Runs on equal ground, and thus as "cheating", that would do it. And besides, I don't think it would be more interesting than the TAS on its own. It would basically be like, "here's a normal unassisted run, oh and here's also a video of a TAS happening alongside it to see what one of those looks like. Try to watch both.".
The original "race" idea was to give a TASer only a few hours (and not tell him the game beforehand), and then let his run compete with a speedrunner who is already experienced at that same game. For a simple game like NES Baby Moses, 2 hours are enough to make a really optimized run. If the game is complex, the race becomes way more interesting. As for SGDQ, I say that it's better to have audience applauding upright once a year, than spend resources on something average for the sake of itself. Unless there's another person who's ready to run a TASBot.

BTW, this game requires "Proper aspect ratio in low-res mode" checked. Since it's gameplay is standard resolution, while some other stuff isn't and should be stretched.

When I initially asked about it, I was simply curious. I'll be perfectly okay with not skipping it too, since it looks powerful :)

http://www.mobygames.com/game/arcade/castle-of-dragon/release-info Since this game was neither released outside Japan, nor was it allowed to, I'm pretty sure we can change the title to Dragon Unit JPN for this and the previous publication. As for comparing this run to the existing one, let's see... This one gets bad ending, this one beats the game faster, this one leaves no chances to the existing one entertainment-wise, but this one has an additional fight (between 2 players) that makes it longer. VS is a required fight, right? You can't just ignore it in 2P? Anyway, I think this run is so great that it deserves its own category, both being in Moons, they don't have much overlapping content, and this one looks better in all terms. Yes vote btw.
