I decided to rewatch this with the commentary. I would in fact enjoy a screenshot of Dark Force 3 getting a slashed crotch too ;-) But thank you, FreshFeeling, for a good amount of background with the game. To get the commentary audible with the game, I had to lower Gens's volume and raise Winamp's volume, but that was fine. It was fun, and I do suggest you grab Dega and check out the Phantasy Star I run if you haven't already.

I'd say that there are more differences between this and DKC2 for SNES than there are between the two versions of Double Dragon 2 that are currently published. The games are most different at the end, with the bonus stages. I also really noticed the Bramble Blast shortcuts much more in this run, as legoking831 mentions. Although the graphics are somewhat inferior, the lack of celebration dances at the ends of stages is a BIG entertainment boost. I feel that the platforming here is interesting enough to warrant publication along with the SNES game.

I get the impression that unlike most of the Final Fantasy games, this is not a particularly easy-to-understand RPG for people unfamiliar with the game. Arguably, this shouldn't be a big contention point, but it does make me feel uneasy about watching an all-characters run, especially if the stories are as long as other people are saying they are. That being said, I really liked this run. Somehow, the pacing felt better than the Lute run, and the last fight was ended in a very cool fashion. I vote Yes for this to be published along with the Lute run.

Thanks for your post in this thread, Nisto. It explained to me a bit about the game's workings, but it also showed us that you know the game. After watching the submission, I can see that it's really much cleaner than before in terms of technical proficiency. The wobbles to control spawns are a lot smoother, for instance. At this point, I think the run is short enough to be too boring. Some nice tricks as well lead to a Yes vote.

The game was pretty cute, and I was entertained enough through it. It also seems pretty straightforward: how much could this really be improved without glitches? Also, are any other endings particularly worthwhile? Anyway, yes vote. For a screenshot, I'd suggest when the boy is pushing the boulder from the side, shortly after cutting down trees with an axe.

I still think that this game has pretty bad music for being a game which is all about music. However, the game is still entertaining, the improvement is good, and the vote is Yes.

There seem to be at least a couple issues with the publication: 1. The attached movie file is named marioadventure-andymac. Usually, the player name is written first in the movie files. 2. The ROM version is listed as PRG0. Technically, shouldn't the ROM version be "Hack" because the game is a hack?

Chef Stef, if I'm not mistaken, the creepy ghost in World 4 is basically a different sprite for the Mario-eating fish Boss Bass. They just put Boss Bass in a castle stage with lava... it is pretty awesome though. As for this run, very nice job with p-meter maintenance! Also, you made a lot better use out of occasional flying; the switching back and forth between the powers made this pretty interesting. It was also cool to have more wall-passing. Just a few questions come to mind: how do you avoid triggering some of the hammer brothers when the map scrolls? Why is it that some stages let you leave early (such as, that one stage in World 3 when you're running on the ceiling a lot)? And lastly, are any of the tricks for this run new compared to the current SMB3 runs? Once again, great job!

I'm also trying to get PCSX working for the first time. I've downloaded v0.1.2, done the configuration as suggested in the download, and gotten a game for download with .bin and .cue files. However, once I set the BIOS, whether or not I select "Run CD" or "Run CD from BIOS", after a certain point before the title screen, the game freezes up. At this point, there seems to be nothing I can do besides shut down PCSX and start over. (By the way, I'm not even recording a movie yet... I'm just trying to play the game.) Does anyone have any suggestions about how to diagnose why the game freezes or such? Thanks!

I've watched EightBitGuy's run, and I liked it. At some point, I'll also check out the actual submission... it sounds like the world-6 DK battle was done better in Chef Stef's run because of the switching thing mentioned in the comments. But in any case, good job to both of you on the improvements, and hopefully we'll get to see a run incorporating both sets of strategies! The stages with the midair jumping glitch were especially awesome this time. EDIT: I've now watched both submissions. If my notes are correct, Chef Stef's submission does stages 3-4, 4-1, 4-DK, 5-3, 6-MM, and 6-DK noticeably better, along with better lag management in the MM stages. It would be neat to see more accurate comparisons between the two movies in each stage. Also, this is making me wonder about the GB game of Donkey Kong... way back in the day, OmnipotentEntity was working on that, if I recall.

Nice improvement! I'm surprised that it ended up being faster to use this new Dragonlord strategy, given that he now takes extra time to cast a spell in almost every turn of the first round.

Nice work! I wasn't sure at first if this run should be published along with the all souls run, just to avoid creating lots of categories for this game. However, this run has its own appeal, getting more directly to the bosses and all. Yes vote. Out of curiosity, are some of these techniques new since the all souls run? Your Graham and Julius fights in particular seem a lot faster in this run.

This game is definitely a lot more entertaining than the first Wonderboy / Adventure Island game, thanks to fewer stages and more weapon variety. The bosses were pretty cool. I think this is a pretty good run! I was sort of hoping it would be the game from this submission though.

I finally got around to checking this out. Nice improvement in glitching technique! Yes vote. To give people a clue about how the glitching goes on during the run, would you be interested in making subtitles, dave_dfwm? It might be nice to have occasional ones, such as which items got glitched during each round of glitching.

This run seems pretty good! I'm not sure yet if it's worth publishing, just because the game feels really watered-down compared to the SNES version. The music is much more annoying, for instance. On the plus side, a number of the animations are quicker, such as team switching. A few places stuck out to me. 1. In Hornet Hole, you grab an invincibility barrel and then backtrack to bounce off a Zinger. Would it be faster to damage boost off the Zinger and get a DK barrel later? 2. In Parrot Chute Panic, you use Squawks to ride the last shaft. Once again, is it faster to fall as the Kongs and possibly take damage? 3. In K. Rool Duel, would Diddy be faster for most of the fight? This is because he holds objects in front of him, as opposed to up top. You look like you lose a little time in the first few hits because of this. The barrel work is excellent in this run and does stand out from the SNES version. The cute double-Diddy glitch at the final fight is good too. However, I'm undecided as of yet whether this offers enough to be published in addition to the SNES version.

Wow, insta-publish before I even get home to check out this run! No matter though. The game is a real treat for TASing, and Sonikkustar, you've done a great job at reducing lag. Thanks for mentioning me, though all my comments were just observation at full-speed (as opposed to observations by a trained TASer).

Really, is the game so horrible? The graphics are not very good, but they're really silly, which gave me a few chuckles. The music is not bad either, IMHO. Also, I can tell that the game is difficult and that adelikat's health management was really good. When it comes down to it, the biggest problem with the game is that it's just too long for the amount of variety it has.

IrnBru, if you look a page or two back in this thread, you'll see that a run through this game was almost finished by theenglishman. However, the game got stuck infinitely loading during the loading of Liquid's cutscene after Metal Gear Rex. You said you managed to play through the whole game on NTSC? If that's the case, then you got that cutscene to load properly, and any help with getting it working in theenglishman's run would be great! Also, if you're interested in making your own run as well, then you and theenglishman can compare runs and strategies, etc. You may also want to look over theenglishman's last posted WIP to see if you have any comments. Good luck!

I agree with Sir VG most about this. The swinging animation is pretty funny, but only for about the first minute. The game dragged on. I could go either way about it getting published, so Meh.

Hey there, I saw that zidanax had edited a Tricks page for this game, so I thought I'd check this out. I just wanted to say I'm also really looking forward to an improvement to Actraiser, and good luck guys!

Hey, sorry to necromance, but I rewatched the 100% TAS recently (awesome job with the glitches, especially the quick way to obtain the 3rd crystal in the sky garden!), and I know at least one source of potentially large improvement. In fact, it already got mentioned once after this movie's publication. Any time after you get the Spin Dash and are using Will, you could see whether charging a spin dash and letting it go is faster than running. As of now, I only know for sure of two locations where this saves time: the Red Jewel in Mt. Temple that you need to get by running all the way along the bottom of a screen (I also suspect it saves time on the screen with the Teapot). I don't know how long of a straightaway you need to have for this to save time. There's also the demo that Bisqwit mentioned as an improvement. But yeah, if these are the only improvements, then they are only minor blemishes on an awesome piece of work. EDIT: On another note, do you actually have to visit the shrine in Euro to get the Teapot to work on Neil's parents?

(http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. In this game, Marko kicks a soccer ball. However, this ball is not as cool for kicking or bouncing as the Mega Ball in Mega Man 8. Marko doesn't play soccer as well as Marcokarty. Lastly, he isn't quite as good at killing enemies as this Marco. More seriously, the game is ok. It's cute, but it lags a ton, which throws off the entertainment when destroying two sludge barrels slows down the game. The ball could be an interesting game mechanic, but it doesn't get used very creatively in a speedrun. All in all, it's an ok game at best for me. I'll vote Meh because the game still looks well-run.

Hmm, a game where you get a chance to get revenge after being attacked by gangsters: ever played Darkman, per chance? This game is way too cartoony despite its subject matter. Heck, you even possess your girlfriend at the end! (I have no idea how she suddenly has the strength to get out of her ropes when you're in control of her, though...) However, this game made for a pretty entertaining run. It's solid platforming with some awesome boss fighting. The shooting glitch is great. All this adds up to a Yes vote.

Here's a (not-so-)long-awaited encode: http://www.archive.org/download/GenesisShiningForceIiIn32617.75ByDarkKobold/shiningforceii-tas-darkkobold.mp4
waiting for this encode was the longest ten hours of my life. downloading @ 20 k/s will be the longest seven. thanks grunt!!
And watching the movie was the longest 3.5 hours... just kidding. It was definitely long, but it's still clear how much you absolutely beat the crap out of the game. This is possibly even more obvious than in the first Shining Force, since it's really easy to notice the absurd levelups in this game. Anyway, have another Yes vote. However, I am curious about how much this can get improved. For instance, you mention something about Power Water with the battle with King Galam, and also leveling up Chester a little differently. I get the feeling this won't be the last of the game... even if this game doesn't go through as many versions as SF1 (since you're now much more experienced with your Lua scripts and all). EDIT: Also, the difficulty level is pretty much a non-issue for me. If the only difference is enemy strength, then a run on this difficulty level is probably more entertaining, although I gather the difference would still be pretty slight.
