New improved TAS of this game by ninespaces: ninespaces's SMS Phantasy Star in 1:55:56.04 http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=488062 Just posting this here, for greater visibility, if someone wouldn't happen to notice this on the workbench. I actually found this TAS on youtube before I noticed it on tasvideos.

Didn't notice this until a few days ago. Amazing improvement. It's not going to be easy for zoboner to improve on this. Regarding bugs, I noticed two, but they're most likely not useful: 1. Once when Noah was at level 26 and I went to the hospital to heal him when he had 0 MP and only 8 HP, it only took 6 mesetas to heal. I think it's because it would have cost over 255, which it couldn't, so it reset to 0. 2. When you use the flute during a fight, it says that the enemy falls asleep, but in reality nothing happens. Fighting evildeads in dungeons was something I also considered back when I did my TAS, but I couldn't trigger the fights fast enough for it to be worth it (or worth my sanity? :P). Did you just do it by trial and error, or did you have some deeper knowledge of how the fights work? Also, did you try manipulating fights by bringing up the menu in dungeons? Bringing up the menu can trigger fights sometimes, and maybe it could have some advantages to walking. I didn't know about the 5000+500 mesetas chests in the Casba cave. Probably those were discovered after 2010, like the dragon in that cave. Incredible time saver. Would be useful if there was some way to show/know secret passages in dungeons, because who knows, there might still be some that haven't been discovered.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see a video of you explaining those things. I don't know how the random encounters work, I just triggered the right encounters with trial and error. If you could trigger fights fast enough in dungeons, that might be a faster way to level up than what I did, because in dungeons there is no fade-in and fade-out. Fights in dungeons can be triggered by bringing up the menu, so it's not necessary to walk. I didn't have enough money to buy the silver fang when I got there the first time, and it was more important to get money for other things, like maybe the spacecraft. I bought the silver fang at 1:16:15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfrgdsdy7WY Not sure what secret room you mean. Maybe the red dragon in Casba: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/588116-phantasy-star/60212032 I don't remember if I knew about that. That was posted in 2011, so it could be some new information that was not available when I made my TAS in 2010, so that could be a major time saver.

This PM is a year old, but I'll respond to it in this appropriate thread. Posted: 2018-06-02 13:30:58 Subject: TAS phantasy star SMS

hi, I work currently on "phantasy star" SMS and I'll be curious to know your route planning concerning your TAS... I know than that do now some years, but maybe you have some notes or else. With all my thanks.
Hi, are you still working on the Phantasy Star TAS? How far have you gotten (how many minutes)? Could be interesting to see your progress. Regarding the route, I just tried to take the fastest possible route. If there's something specific you wonder about, I can try to explain. It's been 10 years since I made this TAS though, so on the top of my head I don't remember much about the route planning. But I don't remember coming up with any improvements for the route. There were some small mistakes I made in my TAS, like buying 2 burgers too many and opening a 10 mesetas chest unnecessarily. Dammit started a TAS that is a bit faster than mine, so except the better optimization, he might also have a better route, so be sure to check it out if you haven't.

Thanks, I posted it there. The game is probably just incompatible.

Try this game on latest m64py.
But can you make TASes with m64py? I don't see any option to record a movie with it. Shindou Edition did work with the earlier 0.2.3 version, but with the latest 0.2.4 version the emulator shut down after a few seconds of running any game I tried. I used the portable version. I also noticed that m64py said my rom is overdumped [o], but I'm not sure if that matters...

Or are there some specific settings that have to be used for it to run? When I try to run it, it only shows an N64 logo and stops there. I use the latest version of Bizhawk with default settings and I have Windows 10. Unlike the normal Wave Race 64, the shindou edition has a ghost in time trial, so it would be cool if it worked.

I used the Jabo plugin (which is the only one I can use on my PC) on Dynarec core type. I used the last 32-bit version since it's the last one to have Jabo. Also I think the red SHA does mean it's not the same ROM, I dunno what's up with that. I guess you also tested the game on GLideN64 since that's the most accurate plugin available.
Ok, I get it now, you were using "Wave Race 64 (Japan) (Rev A)", that's not the Shindou edition :P

But I just tested the Shindou version on BizHawk, and it works...[/url] ._.
Interesting. For me it just shows the N64 logo in the beginning and nothing else. Do I need to have some specific settings or something? I've never TASed on bizhawk before. I just downloaded the latest version and I didn't change any settings. Pretty much all other games work except this. Edit: When I try to play your movie, the "SHA" is red. Not sure what SHA is, but does it mean we have a different version of the game? I also tried the older bizhawk version you were using, but it didn't work; didn't even get the N64 logo.

Sucks that the Shindou edition still doesn't work on Bizhawk.

Is it possible to use the MHS to remove the armor and trenchcoat in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided? It would be pretty cool. I searched for the address, and 0880D3E0 (unsigned long) is what I found. I don't even know what "unsigned long" means, but I just picked that randomly, because I don't really know what I'm doing. I tried locking the value to the one where it is when Adam is without an armor/trenchcoat, but it didn't work, he just has the trenchcoat on anyway, once he put it on. So, is there some way to do this?

Oh, interesting, you also did TASes in the debug mode?

Like many others, I saw Morimotos viral SMB3 video. I'm not sure if tasvideos, or nesvideos as it was called first, existed back then, but I discovered it some time after that, because I think TASing was interesting, so maybe I found it by googling or something. As far as I know, I'm the first person on earth who discovered TASing and I also made the first TASes in the history of mankind, because I remember in the 90s when I was playing Sonic 1 with the debug mode, it allowed you to play the game in slow motion and frame advance, so I did a few speedruns with it.

Interesting, didn't know about the boost from the water. Turok "2" certainly runs incredibly slow compared to the first Turok. He hasn't been working out enough. A Turok 2 TAS might be more interesting than 1, because there is already a TAS of the first one which is decently optimized. And Turok 2 probably isn't that much longer than the first one, it's just that he walks much slower.

I think we should use the consoles native resolution on youtube, like 320x240 for example, because it's better for the environment and google. We're wasting a lot of space on google's servers by uploading unnecessarily high resolution videos, so it creates more pollution and death.

The point is there was moderation intervention, so it would be good if it was equal on both sides.
It can never be equal, because nobody is unbiased and neutral. To think that somebody is unbiased is bias. Just like with conservatives and progressives, male and female, there will always be bias and imbalance between the Yin and Yang forces, like this thread and the presidential election proved. I'm also biased, so don't trust me. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

And thus, we're back at the same conclusion, that the alt-righters and SICs are trying to make discrimination acceptable again.
Discrimination is a wonderful thing, because for example if a pedophile would want to work at a kindergarten, it might be a good idea to discriminate against him. All living beings discriminate all the time. Even in this thread the lefty liberals are discriminating against the righty conservatives and the righty conservatives are discriminating against the lefty liberals, so everybody unconsciously thinks that it's acceptable, even though they say they're against it. Discrimination is true equality, because people are different, so they have to be treated differently in order to achieve real equality. Conservatives for example don't want to be treated like progressives and vice versa. Some people mostly want to progress. Some people mostly want to conserve. You can't make both sides happy, because both sides are different and they have different opinions, and you can't conserve and progress at the same rate at the same time. The good thing about Trump is that he will slow down the rate of progression, which is too fast according to many. If you progress too fast when you're travelling with your car, the grim reaper will cut your head off, because you won't have enough time to turn right-wing when you have to turn. But if you conserve too much, your rate or progression will be too slow, which is also a problem. But of course, nobody knows the future, so who knows what will happen and what is the right choice in every situation.

At first when I saw and played X, I thought it sucked too, because Tidus seemed so weird, but it was actually a really good game. I haven't played XV but I can see just from the visual design of the game that I would like it. The artistic style alone makes it a piece of art that I think I would enjoy. Unfortunately, it's not available for PC, so I can't buy it.

It was all a question of getting interested in the subject.
I've noticed that it seems to work the other way around too: The more you understand something, the more interesting it becomes. It's a catch 22 situation: you have to be interested in order to understand it, but you can't be interested if you don't understand it. Politics and religion for example used to be very boring to me before I understood more about them. Now they're a lot more interesting. Politics is less interesting because I understand less about it. Maybe interest and understanding are almost the same thing.

Voted for the top one. Quite clearly it looks more realistic because it has more reflections and also slightly better shadows. Although reality may not have that much reflections, depending on what material the floor and red ball is made of.

Cool :) Yeah, I have no plans to do it, so go for it. Seems like Wyster has been busy with something else for a long time too, since he hasn't progressed on his Goldeneye TAS. A co-op TAS of this would be interesting to see too, which might not be so difficult to do now, if there are no desync issues.
