Improved precision and a couple of obvious improvements bring down Tails' quest by 2 seconds, 50 frames.
This run uses the 2.1.1 version of Pu7o's Miles 'Tails' Prower in Sonic the Hedgehog hack.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Gens 11a + S3KCamhack + SolidityViewer + (partial)HitboxDisplay + LUA HUD for Genesis Sonic games
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes no damage
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Ignores delays caused by bonus effects

Total improvement in in-game time: 170 frames, or 2 seconds and 50 frames.
The times given are the in-game timer values. The value after the final colon pair indicates the in-game frame counter, and is restricted to the 0-59 range. It is updated every frame (except during lag frames), and increments the in-game second when resetting to zero.

Stage by stage comments

Green Hill Zone 1

An obvious slope jump, using flight to avoid breaking the monitor, combine to a large speed boost. Improved precision until the end carry the day.

Green Hill Zone 2 & 3

More precise play in the beginning of the acts. That is it.

Spring Yard Zone 1

The most obvious improvement -- who needs speed shoes when you can abuse the enforced screen boundaries of flight to get nearly the same speed?

Other Comments

Possible improvements: If one were to accept damage in the run, Scrap Brain 2 might be improvable by 6 frames by getting hurt at the saw. There are no other improvements of which I am aware of at this time, and all my attempts at improving the other levels failed.

HD encode here. It's on YouTube but I may upload it to Dailymotion as well. Playlist Part 1 Part 2 And I won't do the SD encode, as long as my encoding problem isn't fixed.

That's exactly for YouTube and Dailymotion we are encoding in "HD". To give people more eye candy, my next HD encode's going to use HQ3X+HQ2X. That means the pictures are going to be less pixelated, like OmnipotentEntity's HD encode for the recently published Sonic 3 & Knuckles NewGame+ run.

Hm, with a 67-byte difference, the page would have to be loaded 15650 times to add up to an extra megabyte of data downloaded. :) (Not that I'm arguing against optimizing screenshots; I'm just amused.)
