About game:

Lada: The ultimate challenge is single-player driving game. The goal is to reach the end of the level (this game only has a single level). In the way, there is lots of traffic, some of it outright malicious. Fortunately, you have installed rocket launcher and machine gun to your car...

Why I did this:

I got hint about this game from Brushy. Download page had note that this game is pretty short. It also appeared to be at least somewhat decent for a TASing purposes ("Road Fighter with lots of violence").

Tricks:

  • I wait little over 2 frames so first bonus is rockets.
  • I don't waste rockets by firing them to various non-car targets for luck manipulation.
  • Before second "rock section", I manipulate almost all bonuses to be weapon bonuses (there's couple of health bonuses for when I can't manipulate a weapon bonus)
  • After the second "rock section", I go on rampage and destroy loads of vehicles with no regard to ammo nor luck manipulation.

Closing comments:

The crazy driving is intentional. Its firstly very difficult to drive straight in realtime due to inertia, and secondly just driving straight looks boring, it looks better to drive like drunk and occasionally apply huge steering inputs. When concentrating fire is done, it is done, and no shot is missed (the shots that appear to "miss" actually connect outside the screen, as evidenced by score increase and explosion scrolling in or vehicle taking "less" damage before blowing up).

Nach: For the last couple of seconds this run begins to feel a bit repetitive. Overall though, it's more fun than cow tipping - domino rally style - off a pier. Accepting.

Thanks for posting the encode! I'm amused by the amount of mayhem you can cause (especially knocking trucks 3 times your size into water and sand), but the game is just too repetitive after a point. I could go either way about getting it published, so Meh.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... It took me until the end of the movie to realize just what Lada they were referring to. Then I laughed. A good length movie for its variety. Voted yes, enjoyed. Why don't you kill more of the blue cars by ramming? You seem to avoid them far, far more than the red ones.

It's for luck manipulation. If you ram cars, others spawn and get in your way.

The reason for that is that places where one could send blue vehicles (I think they are actually tractors) to their doom by collisions are very rare. I don't know the exact cause (perhaps it is slow speed given to them, as speed limits also apply horizontally) but if you slam a blue vehicle, it is pushed quite little, far less than any other type of vehicle with exception of motorcycle. Most vehicles push very nicely. With motorcycles, the same thing about pushing is true, but at least those have so little hit points that another vehicle is enough to kill it after damage I do to it by slamming. This limits tractor slamming to mostly pushing them to path of another vehicle that would cause grief later. As for luck manipulation purposes, pushing vehicle to its doom uses the same amount of RNG numbers as destroying it with bullets. It might not affect the luck in same way however, because game might throw the RNG for random spawn and timer to next spawn (might not actually spawn anything) between what would be last moment to kill it with weapons normally and when it dies when pushing it to its doom.

I was disappointed at the idea of it being a spy hunter type overhead auto-scroller. However, I was impressed by the sheer amount of mayhem in this TAS! It might be a bit repetitive, but it is only 4 minutes. The length is good for the type of TAS. I vote a solid yes.

Yes, this game is really really really hard to beat.
A "pacifist" version of this run might be more enjoyable. I don't know if that's possible.
I doubt that a pacifist run is possible, since the screen is constantly filled with drunken Russians. It might be possible, but I doubt it. There are some very narrow paths and there you'll quickly find yourself in a situation where there's a drunk Russian in front of you and several other drunk Russians bumping into your car and making you bump in the car in front of you damaging your precious Lada and eventually destroying it.

Yes. Somewhat repetitive, but it's too short for it to get annoying and there is plenty of stuff going on all the time.

Hello. I'm Nesfreak here (obviously), a member that have been inactive for a while, but now my life is beginning to feel empty without TASVideos, so I'm partly back. I wanted to ask you if it is okay that I use your video as an example of a series on YouTube that I started that's called "Obscure Game Reviews"? As the name suggests, the series are reviews of obscure games that almost noone has ever heard of, and after watching your speedrun, I thought that it was the perfect game to start the series with (been planning for ages, this was just the fire that lit the fuse).
