I just opened my account earlier this year, but when I went to upload an encode of my latest TAS, there was some text on the upload page that said "Max 15 minutes in length" and a link that said "learn how to upload longer videos". The link led me to that annoying page that keeps popping up every time I log in, the "add a mobile number to your account". I put in my cell phone number and typed in the verification code they texted me, and I was immediately uncapped! I hope this helps some would-be encoder trying to learn how to uncap his accounts.
OMG it worked! http://www.youtube.com/user/feosTASVideos

I also discovered that, as long as you have videos with copyrighted audio, your limit will be 15 minutes. You either need to delete those videos or replace the audio with YT's audioswap.

My second channel was capped too, but it detects NO copyrighted stuff!

Presently, I have no copyright strikes nor community guideline strikes (I.e. I get three times "your account is in good standing" at http://www.youtube.com/account_manage ). I also have zero content-id matches (i.e. http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_copyright gives "No videos were found"). Upon learning of this new policy of SMS validation, I saw that YouTube did not provide me with the SMS validation option. I never encountered the "Increase your limit" option. But I accessed it anyway with a direct URL ( http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload_verify ), and got the SMS sent to me. I entered the code, and got redirected to http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload?id_verification_completed=1 . I have hence SMS-validated my account. But, still I get "Increased limit not available for this account" on that same page, or the default upload page, http://upload.youtube.com/my_videos_upload .

Bisqwit, we shall try rerecording and tools toward our real life, to get better luck by manipulation. Because YT timelimit seems to depend on some weird RNG. Who ever wanted to reverse engineer his life?

I have one unlisted video with all sorts of copyright violations. Ironically, it's a college paper about copyright. I'm still able to upload extra long movies. So I doubt anything is that simple.

I've had a few content violations, but I've always immediately deleted the videos (because I didn't really need them anyway, I'm using my account exclusively for video game things). I'm really glad to have an unmetered account. I actually have another unmetered account hanging around. Maybe I should register a bunch of accounts and upload random things to it, then when its limit is removed put those recordings to "unlisted"...

Suggestion: Try making another youtube account and see if you get it unlimited. Many people have several accounts (often for completely legitimate reasons: They use each account for different things). If you succeed in having it unlimited, then you can post your long videos there.

Youtube is recapping people again. I dont know why, but a lot of people are losing their ability to make large uploads.

Problem solved! The cause was that old command for mkvmerge:
--compression 1:none
It said it can't find track with ID 1. I changed it to
--compression 0:none
and got no problems. Will try "-1" now too.

I'm trying to upload a 51 minute video that's 7.5 GB in size. But it freezes either at "Preparing upload" or "1%" for good... Is that to be expected? I waited 2 hours on both these occasions.

I had a lot of those things happen to me, it was the YT web-uploader that gliched out. Happens quite often when you use Opera. FireFox is a little better.

I was on firefox 13. Tried Opera and didn't help. (EDIT: The upload page on Opera in fact "crashed" after it hit 1%...) I'm gonna try IE, but I expect no success with that one either. I hope it gets resolved as soon as possible.

If you have a Gmail address you can try Nach's YT uploader.

Finally got my video up but it failed to convert it >__>. Did Youtube stop supporting h.264 lossless again? Or is "Failed to convert" the standard error message for when the video is over the 15:30 limit (for unregistered accounts)? My account says it supports videos longer than 15 minutes even though I never did that SMS verification.

Wow. YouTube failing to process. Big surpise. YouTube usually fails to process a video if it's too large or too long. Annoying, isn't it?

I never did that verification and I still have my account uncapped.
