FractalFusion: Under Config -> Emulation Settings, "Enable advanced bus-level timing" must be on (checked).

Deal or No Deal is a popular TV game show that is based on cases. You pick a case as your own, not knowing what's in it. Then you choose from a variety of other cases, trying to get the lowest numbers from them to get a higher offer. After a certain number of cases, you get your offer and choose if you want it or keep going. Then you pick more cases. If all the cases are picked but one, you get whatever is in you case.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: DeSmuMe v0.9.6
  • Aims for the fastest time
  • Goes through all the levels
  • Make money

Stage by stage comments

TV Game

It's basically the same as the actual TV show. This takes up most of the movie and was fairly easy to do. As you can see, I chose the .01 case on purpose, and chose the cases in their ascending order. Because pennies are a lot of money.

Vault Game

Figure out which case will unlock the vault. This was way too easy. It's ridiculously short, and took me about 3 minutes.
High Low
Guess which case has a higher or lower number! I didn't really like doing this one. It didn't take long, and it didn't take a lot of rerecords, but in a way, I just really despised doing it.

Other comments

DarkKobold: Claimed for judging.
DarkKobold: While the concept (twist) and attempt were nice, this game type just doesn't make for a good TAS. It is trivial to make. The scenes are long and drawn out talking. I did enjoy the twist, but it still doesn't make up for all of the silly speech parts. Also, Howie Mandel really sucks. Audience reaction is the same - Deal or No Deal makes for a bad TAS.
No Deal.
FractalFusion: Judging.
FractalFusion: Re-rejecting since game show games do not qualify for vault, and it does not have the entertainment or technical merit to qualify for any other tier.

I am going to say, No Deal. This is not a good game to TAS. It has been done before and almost everyone hated it.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

Voting no because a similar version got rejected for bad game choice.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Wow... This was even worse entertainment wise compared to the previous submission of the Italian version, mostly because this is longer.... TASing this game adds absolutely nothing compared to just playing it. Voted "No Deal" for poor game choice.

I've tried to TAS this game once, and I've said "No Deal" to this game since it would look boring and I would be able to win it by a single rerecord. This game is also listed here. No Deal.

I think that raises the question of whether that's a valid reason for more or less automatic "no" vote. Just because one of the reasons for a previous run to have been rejected is that the game choice was poor doesn't necessarily mean that all future submissions should automatically be rejected as well. Perhaps a future submission will make the run more entertaining eg. by exploiting bugs or doing something unexpected. (I'm not saying this is such a case.)

Great, just when I thought we'd gotten rid of Fortran. No deal, methinks.

Yeah, I'm sorry and I agree that I should have actually watched the movie before voting. Then again, it's a TAS of a TV show game. I hardly find them interesting even when they're doing it for real money on TV, let alone a TAS that cheats its way past to total victory. The only time that's funny is when you can abuse the system like in Family Feud, but I'm almost sure there isn't anything here like that that would change my no vote.

this list means nothing, since it includes a lot of TASable games, like Donkey Kong 3, Gunsmoke,Actraiser 2, Mortal Kombat, Ghostbusters, Mickey Mouse: World of Illusion Rockman Megaworld, Splatter House 2, WarioWare Twisted!, a lot of hacks and a ENTIRE SYSTEM.
My first language is not English, so please excuse myself if I write something wrong. I'll do my best do write as cleary as I can, so cope with me here =) (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ

Just remove them. You're an editor after all. But WarioWare games look boring to be TASed.

I'll try to put up an encode, though I have sync problems currently. To everyone who voted and did not watch the movie (that is, everyone who voted), don't do it again. If you haven't watched the movie, don't vote. If you have a problem with this submission, stay out of this thread. Simple as that.

...derp... Yes, I should. Most Wario Ware games are, in fact. but this submission was at least tried something different, since tilt commands are less exact.

Hey, in fairness, Warepire watched it. Me, I don't have any DS ware that's historically done right by me to watch movies, so I'ma stay out of this one otherwise.

Sure, this run is pretty predictable in its content, but it makes one think what would happen if someone played a Deal or No Deal game like this in real life. Also, I like how the crowd responds negatively to you opening up "100.000"... "200.000"... when there are mostly just even bigger prices left. The surprise ending works as a nice ideological counterweight to this materialistic holiday season - if you got tool-assistance, you don't need no cash. Lastly, the music in this game is relaxing to listen. But I'll refrain from voting for now...

Just what I've expected. I still keep my "No Deal" vote. And 617 rerecords?! I can do the same thing as you did with a single rerecord by game!

Watching the first game, the gimmick is amusing but gets old fast. A lot of time is spent in forced speech instead of actual gameplay. The rest of the games aren't much more interesting than that. Sorry, but this is a poor game choice for a TAS. The luck manipulation just doesn't make it interesting enough. I'd love to see a run that proves me wrong, but it would be quite difficult considering the limited gameplay options.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Luck manipulation? It's all randomized the the game begins.

This was terminally boring to watch and apparently has negligible technical merit. No deal!
