Great subtitles. Also, any time a movie has subtitles, it's be nice if the encode had them too. I might be wrong, but there are 2 or 3 entires tagged as having subtitled commentary, but I can't watch it because I don't like using the emulator due to the lack of bookmark feature. Tough luck for me, I guess. ""The guy was fatally injured and wants to be covered by God's tears (rain) before he dies. God is too busy to bother because it wastes frames."" I love this line. If there is another religion in the future and they have their own bible, surely, this will be an oft quoted line.

The encode has subtitles. You need to select the subtitle track in the movie player to display them.

We need to start a TAS religion and write our own bible. :D

Yeah, he was talking about other runs' encodes. But, uh, which other runs? If you encounter a run whose encode nominally has subtitles but doesn't actually, you should post in that run's discussion thread so those with the ability to fix it know about it.

I'm sure those threads are long dead and I can't find the rules that include the policy on necroposting. To be safe I'll leave the topics be. I'll make a log here. Even though there is a rule against off-topic posting. I'm going to phpBB Hell for this. http://tasvideos.org/945M.html http://ia360927.us.archive.org/0/items/GunstarHeroesTasCommentary/gunstarheroescommentary.mp3 MP3 is a dead link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB6DDup5J-I This shows as a embedded Youtube video on the page. Why? It should be an entry, like the rest. Also, no subtitle file for the encode outside of Youtube. No mention of if it's in the MKV encode. http://tasvideos.org/1418M.html http://www.sendspace.com/file/pga8vv File not found. Funnyhair and Comicalflop don't have the file. Edit: http://tasvideos.org/1605M.html Has an encode with subs, but it's buried in the topic.

I'm not aware of any such policy. In fact it's generally encouraged where there's pertinent new information (such as encodes of previously unmirrored/unstreamed movies). Please take specific issues with those runs' commentary tracks or lack thereof to those threads.

The encode linked on that page also contains subtitles in the same fashion that this movie's encode contains subtitles. If you can't see them, it's a problem with your player.

I never tested it since the MP4 download says it has the subs. If the MKV has subs, I don't know why the person uploaded a MP4 for the purpose of having subs. Mysteries abound. Come to Northwall and ski the slopes of Mt. Town Under Construction

Ah. I noticed that the link I provided was dead. The commentary is still on archive.org, though. Search for "gunstar heroes commentary" on google, and it's the first link Here's the one I found, but I'm not sure it will stay there. I've noticed a few other runs which have lua subtitles that aren't included in the encode, like [1370] SNES E.V.O.: Search for Eden by FatRatKnight in 40:31.17.

Thanks. Maybe someone could edit the page for the "commentary" special category and link to the ASS files, as well as the LUA scripts. It might be too much work, but someone could also/instead upload new MKVs for the videos that don't have embedded subtitles.

Why? The commentary track can easily be disabled in any reasonable media player.

I think he wants subtitles to be added to videos, not taken away.

Ah, I somehow misread that. It would be easy to add a subtitle track into an mkv (no re-encoding is necessary). If you identify a video for which you want that to be done, post in the discussion thread for that movie. EDIT: this discussion has diverged from the movie discussion and I've split it into its own thread.

Actually it's not even strictly necessary to embed subtitle tracks to the mkv files themselves. They could be provided separately, and most players (which support softsubs) have support for using separate subtitle files while playing a video file.

That said, I think we should be more supportive of commentaries and also give them more attention in the movie writeup. There are quite a few movies you wouldn't know have commentaries if you didn't search for them. An explanation of tricks and techniques with a real time demonstration would lower the level of entry for people new to the concept of TASes and glitches. Submission text can explain things, but it's much better if you hear about it (or read it) then see it immediately. Also, the list of runs with commentary page is not up to date at all. It would be nice to have a dedicated curator or two to work on adding the runs that aren't listed on the page and keeping that page going. I can do part of the work, but I need a list of runs with commentary that aren't included on the page (including obsoleted movies if you can remember them). We may want to reorganize the page as well. Here's what I have: * [1446] NES Magician "best ending" by FatRatKnight in 11:33.84 soft subs * [1443] NES Metroid "low%" by Lord_Tom in 11:08.78 If I remember correctly, this was just a list of improvements rather than explaining tricks. I think I want to have a separate category for this, if I include it at all * [1747] SNES ActRaiser by zidanax & dunnius in 53:55.57 the movie this topic was split from * [1370] SNES E.V.O.: Search for Eden by FatRatKnight in 40:31.17 LUA subtitle script. Not included in AVI (wait, that is on the page. Still, it would be nice if we could have a script for the encode). * [1509] N64 Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion by nfq in 41:45.55 soft subs I believe? Not sold in description * [1626] GBA Shining Soul II by DarkKobold in 1:12:02.43 or is it the previous movie. Commentary on Darkkobold's livestream account. * [1645] PCE Dungeon Explorer "5 players" by DarkKobold in 20:19.30 commentary on Darkkobold's livestream account. * [1558] NES Super Mario Bros. 3 "warpless" by adelikat, andymac, Lord_Tom & Tompa in 47:04.70 I'm not sure. Not sold in description * [1080] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by klmz in 04:58.18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqry4oBHOsc I'm sure I missed some. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'd like to see if we can get commentaries for some of our more popular runs, especially if they use tricks which aren't immediately obvious to the lay person. Runs that I'd really like to see good commentaries on: Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, (possibly more).

It's buried in the forum topic. http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=67821358052216035534 PS: http://tasvideos.org/1558M.html Includes encode with subtitles, but the default location of subtitles is over the HUD. Your choices are: Miss the Action Risk Missing Subtitles If they were up top in the, often monochrome, sky they would be much easier to see. PPS: A search for subtit* in Published movies reveals 78 topics. Most of them are probably requests. Many may be commentaries that are unlisted.

I'm sure I knew that this list existed but it took me a while to find again just now. My commentary for [1488] Genesis Phantasy Star IV by janus in 1:28:43.40 isn't on there either. But there was no encode using it or soft subs. At least it's in the movie's description.

If I remember right, I enjoyed that commentary. Thanks. Optimally we should encourage certain users to provide audio tracks. If not, at least soft subs embedded in the MKV. If not that, then having a Site-Hosted ASS file. Links to these things should be in the description and/or the list of links to the media. We should get "Audio Commentary" and "Text Commentary" flags going and use it more. Maybe add tags for Comedy and Technical.

I updated the page at least. There's still the issue of getting this site to be more commentary friendly. I wonder if a commentary icon or category tag would be possible?

I think an Icon would be too much, since Stars and Moons often overlap with commentated runs. Multiple icons might get redundant to the tag system. Enforcing a commentary tag would help in keeping the list up to date automatically if the lists read tags.

You state the link to the Breath of Fire II commentary is in the decription, but it's a dead link.

That was alden, actually. I don't know how to deal with that one, unless someone comes out with a new link to that commentary.

I contacted Flop and Happy a while back and they don't have a copy. It's unfortunate that there's no easy way to look for it. Edit: Who did the subtitling for the more recent Magician TAS? It's white text with no outline on top of a text box with, you guessed it, white text. Edit Edit: Used Yamb and changed the color myself.
