Although this game is very linear it's still a fun TAS to have done.
  • Goal: Shortest completion time with bad ending - difficulty level 2
I spend a whole lot more time on this TAS than on the previous one, I hope it shows. I managed to cut about 10 seconds of the previous (canceled submission)

Emulator used: openMSX 0.8.1
MSX model used: Panasonic FS-A1WSX

  • Stage 01: Make sure you catch all the fish before entering the shop @ 483 - Gamble to buy needed items. I could have saved time by just getting 4x multiplier but I decided to go for the max amount of fish.
  • Stage 01: Enter Warp @ 237
  • Stage 06: Enter Warp @ 145
  • Stage 09: Enter Warp @ 335
  • Stage 12: Enter Santa's Cave @ 181 get the document fight the dragon - make sure you end up on a number that ends in 9 7 5 3 1 or 0, otherwise you get litle dancing penguins which takes up a lot of time.
  • Stage 13: Enter Warp @ 355
  • Stage 15: Enter Warp @ 078
  • Stage 18: Enter Warp @ 418
  • Stage 24: Enter Shop @ 587 buy the document and fight the dragon (aiming for 8 penguins) - 8 penguins to end :)

Special thanks to Heisanevilgenius for providing excellent feedback. Enjoy this MSX TAS.

DarkKobold: Claimed.

DarkKobold: In general, autoscrollers make for very boring TASes. There is very little that can be done to spice them up. While this game is not specifically an autoscroller, once the penguin hits top speed, their is little to differentiate it from a standard autoscroller. After considering the opinions posted in this thread and the previous one, even people who had played the game in the past, found this a poor game to TAS. The levels are repetitive, the action is questionable, and there is only a single boss, which is repeated twice. While the TAS was well done, the audience doesn't seem to see this as a publishable game.

MESHUGGAH I like how you twist the truth and connect dots by adding a few of your own. I think your behavior displayed above is more trolling then I will do on this forum.

This submission is dedicated to all the 'meh' voters that never played any MSX games ;) I hope you have as much fun voting 'meh' as I did making this TAS.
Uh, there is pretty good reason to believe you think that 'meh' votes came specifically because of distaste for the MSX, and not the game/TAS itself. MESHUGGAH's response was over the top, but I think any rational person would come to the conclusion that you feel the majority of No/Meh votes are simply system bias, based on these quotes. While these comments were probably made in jest, the internet provides a poor conveyance of emotional tone. I don't hold anything against you for this, I just wanted to convey why people would see this attitude as negative.

Sorry for being too harsh and straightforward. As I said, I couldn't decide why are you so sarcastic or MSXophile (please don't take that as a curse or anything offensive). There were other posts that I used to build up your state of mind: Post #271486 Post #271595 I can't remember more of. So all in all: excuse my wordings, I tried to clarify and make things understandable.

In the MSX forum (I'm an admin there) I already made a statement. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11150 "I've given up making a TAS... it's just too time consuming. I will be posting videos with what I believe is the shortest route (without glitch abuse)" I feel better knowing that I leave the TAS-ing up to the people who want to do it. I can help giving hints/tips/feedback on MSX games. It was fun getting a feeling for TAS-ing and it helped me developing some ideas/tools to help out with the openMSX TAS tools.

How much time would be added by pausing once to get the good ending, anyway? is the good ending even worth the effort if it doesn't really signify any excellence or added effort on the player's part?
