When I read about mouse input not being available, I remembered this old game (from 2004) I have which doesn't require any mouse to play. And yes, after getting Hourglass and testing, it's actually playable. Also, I'm running on XP. Though during the "prologue" I noticed it from time to time tends to freeze during cutscenes, but not always, and thus being forced to exit the recording. You can however just replay the movie to that point and continue again as the freezing doesn't always occur (It might occur earlier on the replay though, but even those won't happen every time). But replaying from this new file might not work (the first time I tried it at least). Also, fast-forwarding seems to provoke the freezing rather often too. Savestates seem to be working nicely at the beginning of the game (read first three minutes), but don't know how well they behave further in. I'm using the default settings in Hourglass to run this game so there might be some settings which will add more stability to the game. I can try with different settings if anyone knows which to choose. I can also supply with a .wtf file or two if anyone would be interested in it too.

Made a quick encode of the first 40 seconds of gameplay to prove it's possible to both play and encode the game, though the video quality seem to get lower as it reaches the darker areas. Link to video I can try some different settings if anyone thinks they might help.
