Really? I thought at least that the PS3 controller had a recharcable battery (li-ion or something), so that it never has to be replaced. If you have to buy batteries, it becomes pretty expensive in the long run. I don't really know, I have no wireless controllers, I was just joking earlier.

The PS3 controllers comes with a built in Lithium battery, if it stops charging you can currently send the controller to Sony for a free battery replacement given that you have an original controller.

Not necessarily, I don't remember changing the batteries in my Wavebird more than once in the two years or so I had it. stupid need for speed

I should have been more clear. I was thinking of the Wii remote. I don't have a problem with the Wavebird and I haven't used a PS3 controller. My Wiimotes use up all the charge in my AA batteries in a week or so. And if I don't have any more AA batteries in the house after the batteries lose all their charge, I can't play my Wii until I go out and buy more.

Either you're playing 24/7, or your batteries suck. I play a lot of Wii games for numerous hours and my batteries last for several weeks.

Just get some rechargeable AAs and a charging station. That way you can use the batteries for other things too, not just gaming.

Fun fact, all the devkits seem to come with wired controllers, even if the consumer version is wireless.

Our Wii devkits could be purchased either wired or wireless. We got a wired one as the wireless were BO at the time, but it couldn't work with wireless controllers. Our game required support for the Balance Board, of which there was only the retail version available, hence it didn't work with our devkit. Problem solved by getting a wireless devkit. Wired devkits are nice because there tends to be a lot of consoles around, so it is less of a problem with interferences and such. Especially when they use standard computer-compatible protocols like Bluetooth (Wii/PS3).

That's rather ironic coming right after I posted that I estimate spending about 21 euros per year on AA batteries for my game controller. (That's about 27 US dollars.)
