Super Pang (1990) Developed by Mitchell Corporation
A popular game where you must harpoon bubbles until they disappear. When you shoot reach a bubble, this is split in two bubbles more small. The mission is kill all the bubbles in various part of the world.
  • Objectives:
    • Emulator used: FBA v.005
    • Use level selector cheat
    • Clear the level as fast as possible
    • 1 player controls 2 characters
  • Autor's comments:
Level Selector Cheat
I known this cheat a long time ago. I can select any level of the game, but the last in the list was the level 39. With 40 level, i must clear 2 levels for finish the game.
Use of Dynamite item
Too work harpooning many bubbles. Use the dynamite item save much time to finish faster the level, just need to remove any bubbles that remain.
Use of Clock item
This useful clock that freezes time, with 3 sec, help me to remove more easily the bubbles in the level 40 (last). I think that 3 sec was sufficient time and good used.
Two characters
Well, is obvious using 2 characters, i can remove the bubbles faster and do coordinated actions. Ej: Take the dynamite in the level 40 before that it reach the ground.

Noxxa: Claiming for judgment.
Noxxa: This run uses a cheat to bypass nearly all of the game. This is clearly against the rules, and no justification has been given for doing it. Rejecting.

The rules quite clearly state that cheats are not allowed, especially not when the sole purpose is to skip to one of the final stages. That put in mind, why should there be any reason to accept this category for this game?
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

I'm with Mothrayas here. Don't see the reason for cheating, besides maybe skipping monotonous game play. Still... If one was to make a full run of the game it would not be a long run anyway. I estimate that a level takes around 400 frames to clear, and there are 40 levels. Would make a full run between 4-5 minutes then. Also add in around 300 frames between each level and we're looking at around 7-8 minutes in total. Might be some more delays here and there, but I think we can watch through a ~10min run of this game without dying of boredome. So until further explained to why this cheat is used to skip levels, my vote is pending towards NO.

I've seen your name before, and some of your other movies. While I am going to vote no due to cheating and being not optimal enough. I suggest that it would be in your best intention that you use the free time you have to spend a great deal of time(Months or a year) on "one" movie with no cheats, and a commonly accepted goal choice such as "fastest time", while completing the full game.

Not entertaining. So voting no is my option

Why you do this? I mean it's still not April... believe me, I'd know if it was because my birthday is in that month and it's totally not :'3 Anyway, voting No due to lack of harpoon ;3

There's no reason to use cheats here. I would recommend doing all 40 levels if you want this game to have a published run. No vote.

What's with the sudden "cheat" movies lately? Is there some joke I'm unaware of?
I was about to ask the same question, but with slightly more rudeness. You know, when I saw someone had done a movie of Super Pang, I got excited. I actually kind of like the series. And then I saw it was done in 33 seconds. I knew either some sort of colossal glitch was invoked, or it was another freaking cheat movie. I wish my suspicions hadn't been right... So, this gets an obvious No vote from me. Not because of the disappointment, but because of these kinds of movies go against the spirit of tool-assisted superplaying. (Not to mention the site rules.)
I'm not that hard to find... if you know where to look. -=( http://jolikmc.tumblr.com )=-

No vote. Cheating is against site's rules and the game looks pretty boring. Here is a gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKdwXu_XW9k

Waiting for April Fools when he will submit a full, cheat less, fast and entertaining run, after months of even more of these types of submission until then.

BTW, in Battletoads & Double Dragon there's a cheat that gives 10 lives. It would be useful for a Playaround. Is that not acceptable too?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

It depends on how you use those extra lives. There are movies like this that uses passwords for playarounds. But this run uses it to skip most of the game without any real reason. Edit: Actually, does "cheating" count as a reason?

The question is: Does it depend at all? I'd spend them on entertainment obviously.

From the game screen: This game is for use in all countries excluding the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, and Japan umm.... Why?? Is this video game like some of those "International Versions" of textbooks only to be sold NOT in the U.S.? Seriously - anyone got an answer for this? Just curious.

I vaguely recall a submission some time ago of a very similar game, using harpoons to break bubbles. I think the run was on the Game Boy, but I can't remember who submitted it. This game would definitely be a little more colorful and entertaining than a GB port, and I might vote Yes for a full run. There's no reason to accept the stage warp, though. In the few cases it's been ok (such as Ghouls and Ghosts), there were reasons like the game requiring you to play it all twice anyway. In fact, some runs even tried to use a password shortcut (like the Barbie run) and were rejected / cancelled, but then a full run of the game got accepted. I think the question people should be focusing on is: would you be likely to vote Yes on a full-game run?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

I'm leaning on No too, but this game looks interesting enough to be TASed. I hope you can do it again with going through all stages.
