http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkYdj5AXsG0 saves dropping and catching a fish for OI. Saves a few seconds in mst.

An interesting little trick was just noticed by cfox. Apparently you can do ocarina items without a bottle by pulling a bomb, holding it above your head until it explodes, and then hitting some item that plays a mini-cutscene (full bottles, spells, beans, trade items) on a precise frame. You have to not get hit by the explosion or at least be moving when you take damage or else it won't work. It doesn't seem to work with flowers or chus, and it doesn't seem to work on version 1.0 either. I don't think we're entirely sure of all the specifics yet. This might save a little bit of time in a couple of the cs skips over having to drop and catch bugs. I think you would still need a bottle b/c you otherwise don't have an item to do this kind of oi with. If you get dins fire in MQ, maybe you could use dins fire to oi and skip bottle, but there still could be a problem of executing the deku and dc cs skips since you would need to die so soon after the oi, and I'm not sure if it's possible to blow yourself up like that. tl;dr: What rog said.

Wait. This works makes IO work with beans? Does that mean we can get around getting a bottle now?

If you have bombs.

I think getting chus and beans should be faster than getting a bottle. Since chus can help you in other fun ways, like skipping the deku tree cutscene.

Doesn't work with chus.

That's weird. Why?

I don't know.

Hmm maybe the timing is just different, since the explosions vary slightly? Would be really nice if we could get this to work with chus.

Well my theory is that it had to do with links hands. If you watch links hands when the chu explodes, they go down right away, while when a bomb explodes, they stay up for a while, and it's the last frame that his hands are up that you push the button to oi. When you try the last frame his hands are up with a chu, he just tries to put the chu down. But then IDK anymore because his hands stay up with a bomb flower, and that didn't work when I tried it either, but then maybe that's because you can't normally pull bomb flowers with c buttons.... no idea really.

does ganondoor work on DC? Might not be faster to get to tower, but if we ever find a way with bombs to get inside the tower and skip to last door, which works in theory, but glitching inside still hasn't been done yet. I was thinking the glitch where you bomb hover up into a slope that pushes you inside a wall could be used.

The doors lead to different places depending on what dungeon you're in... If ganondoor were possible in DC, it would lead to the know it all brothers house. Two problems even if that were useful: 1. have to hover all the way up to the door without getting warped out, and 2. have to get the warp to take affect from so far away, once you open it. The Fire Temple boss door actually does lead to tower collapse, funnily enough. To reach it you have to get oob and hover up to the loading zone (which should be possible?) but doing so iirc requires the goron tunic?

What ways are there to do OI glitch, and what do they all have in common? Maybe there's a way to do it with the slingshot or something.

yeah, starting the hover requieres the goron tunic, which is quite a big downside and it would also mean that we couldn't skip minuet anymore (The fire to ganon warp would only be used in the MST run). The fact that it also requieres goron tunic probably makes this slower or at least I hope it does, because I'd rather see the warp to forest being used in a run.

So I have to ask, is anyone working on a new any% run right now? I imagine since a lot of the run would be cutscenes and chunks that have been TASed before, it shouldn't be too bad, but I imagine with sub-optimal quality, there will end up being a giant frame war.

The any% TAS has been finished and will be submitted when the encode stuff is done. On the console front, ZFG got a new time of 21:56 a few hours ago: http://www.twitch.tv/zfg1/b/316256944

What's funny is I was watching his live stream about 20 hours ago (when he was still trying to get sub 22 minutes) and I first heard the TAS was done from him. (A real-time speedrunner! I found that pretty ironic.) He said it's under 20 minutes and uses the Mido skip! I'm excited to see it too. (Guess I'll watch the awesome MST TAS again while I'm waiting.)

Afaik it's slightly above 20 minutes at last blow to Ganon. So TAS timing will be longer...

I should've known he was going by SDA timing. Well, it's still impressive that it's almost two minutes faster than the fastest real-time speedrun.

The final time of the any% TAS (timing from power on til last hit on Ganon) is 19 minutes and 51.55 seconds. With TAS timing, it's 22:59. For obvious reasons, the encodes and publication page are going to mention both times. The run will be on my YouTube channel when the encode is ready, which will probably be in about a week. As with MST, I don't want to submit it here until he's on there because Mupen is such a hassle.

21:56 is zsr timing, which starts from file select (~15 seconds from power on) to the final hit on ganon. It's like 19 minutes sda timing.

Oh yeah SDA times from "gaining control over the character". The stupidest method of timing ever invented. Forgot about that. :D

What about skipping the sword, buying stick for owl skip, then buying stick and shield together, maybe get the river 20r for the r. Use stick for mido skip. Get 3-4 sticks before deku tree and/or in deku tree. 1 stick for wall bounce to web skip, maybe can get stick before skipping second web if quick enough. 1 stick for gohma, 1 stick for ISG on stalfos and ganon. I timed it out earlier, but I think stick vs sword initially was over 30s faster (*EDIT* 25s), you'd lose some time getting sticks and some small stuff where sword helps, so the net trade-off would be pretty close. I'm assuming this has been tried, but with mido skip, swimming underneath and skipping the deku tree CS.
