How do you guys search for resources (faq, TAS, docs, manual) in "hard to look after" languages like japanese, korean, chinese etc games? I have a load of games that only released in 1 country without any translation or additional information. The only thing I know is people usually use the TAS tag or "Time Attack" and google translate sucks when there are more than 1 word... What I would like to ask is if there anyone who knows the proper words for these... * tool-assisted speedrun or time attack written in chinese, * tool-assisted speedrun in korean, * time attack in japanese, Aaand regarding info, * chinese and korean video sites (not nicovideo/nicodouga/niconico) for TASes edit: * "play-through" or "long-play" in japanese/chinese/korean (most of the games just have unassisted gameplays) Things I already found out (at least I've got something result) * japanese TASers usually make a website per game/TAS but that's greatly depends on the game itself. * korean TAS portals (just like any other korean portals like inven but for TASes, I think they use a different variation of time attack) Japanese infos: * HardcoreGaming101 has a lot of "version differences" and japanese informations of games Korean infos: * 타임어택 is time attack * Super Mario World is 슈퍼 마리오 월드 * NES was released as Hyundai Comboy (page has a few other korean NES related infos) If everything fails: * Bootleg Games (only unreleased and pirate games) * The Cutting Room Floor (mostly popular, E/US games)

Japanese term for "FAQ" is '攻略'. As far as I know, there's no known translation of "tool-assisted speedrun" in Korean. "Speedrun" itself is used though, it writes '스피드런'. Korean video sites: - Daum TVPot - TVple Chinese video sites: - Youku - Bilibili - Tudou Hopes it helped.

plenty informations
Freakingly amazing, thank you very much for the infos! Daum TVPot looks good, similar to Fllap (edit:typo fixed) in content. 스피드런 also worked to get some results, I think I should drop google and find it's korean/japanese counterpart. Bilibili site also looks good regarding the content.

http://cde.peru21.pe//ima/0/0/1/5/6/156906.jpg This might be useful. It's a map of search engine dominance worldwide. Edit: Oh, my mistake. It seems to be a map of the "most visited website", which can include Facebook, which is not a search engine.

* time attack in japanese, Usually shortened to TA, you could try タイムアタック which is the katakana. * "play-through" or "long-play" in japanese 実況プレイ is how I’ve seen it used on YT, that’s for playthrough. Don’t know about long play. Nicovideo usually has everything you need to know about Japanese games…

map of search engines
Apart from my original intention to find as many resources as possible of specific countries' video games (japanese, korean, chinese mostly), it might become useful for others to find russian or whatever infos. Baidu is for chinese searches, VK is the russian facebook. I think it worth to make a wiki page to help TASers find what they can researched by others. My name suggestion would be FindingResources.

- You can enter "TAS + game name in Japanese" in nicovideo. - You can search for RTA times here: http://listeners.reep.info http://listeners.reep.info/index.php?Peercast%20Record There was one other RTA site like this but I don't remember - Gamefaqs, wikipedia etc. - Youtube "game name + glitch" or "game name + tas" I used to search for new kirby, mario and zelda glitches and TASes on Youtube every week but I stopped in about 2011 because I lost interest to keep it up.

I think an extra sentence for the Wiki: GameResources page might link to a list of useful links categorized. General things (gamefaqs, mobygames, bootgod) and the specific ones with search terms to help others reserachig progress a bit fruitier. So, who should I ask for permission and what should be the page called, containing links and few tips?

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

In chinese, "faq" is "攻略" or "秘籍". "play-through" is "流程" or "通关", it's similar to "faq". We usually use "金手指" for "cheat". "tas", we use "tas", too. "rta" is "实战速通", but most persons can't add these tags. If you want to find their movies, you should search the games' chinese name first. How to find the chinese name? Search game system + "中英文对照表", e.g. "GBA中英文对照表". snes list http://www.tgbus.com/htm/home/forever/sfc/2005217161730-1.html gba list http://www.emu999.net/info/duizhao/2007/17079.html We often use "fc" not "nes", and sega's chinese name 世嘉. But warning, There are very few official chinese name, so sometime one game has the 2 or 3 unofficial chinese name... e.g. Mario, we use 马里奥, but the official name is 马力欧, and we allways use the wrong name "超级玛丽" for the nes game "Super Mario". Pokeman is means 口袋妖怪, but the official name is 精灵宝可梦, and 宠物小精灵 in hongkong, 神奇宝贝 in Taiwan. So if you want to watch the game, use 口袋妖怪. If you want to watch the anime, use 宠物小精灵 or 神奇宝贝. And I have no idea about windows and flash game.
