Rikku, I know it's to late, but you in WF when your long jumping on the white slope, you can dive against the small fence and get a boost. It would probably save time.

- he took 102 coins on WF. that's proof of improvability. - he didn't choose stationary camera when exiting the aquarium. - I really wish you don't do PSS twice in the same way, but that's just me. show us that 12'2" is possible. according to rikku, after WF it's 13:24 (rikku) and 14:07 (FODA). about 43 secs difference

But those two things would waste time and be proof of improvability!

There's stylistic choise for entertainment and there's mistake.

Maybe this run is ignoring the bonus effect of coins! That could be the new entertainment mistake!

If he collected 2 coins less along the way, and took that red coin as a last coin, it would probably be harder to acces the star.

Maybe you're right. On this especific level that may be fastest. But it's weird : /

I also thought 102 coins is not optimal. On the other hand the star would appear very high after the last red coin. The difference of 43 secs in the first 2 stages is amazing!

In the aquarium there are some course corrections between coins, wouldn't it have been faster to reach the final direction during the initial turn to minimize the time to travel to the next coin (because ||a + b|| =< ||a||+||b||) or is the input not fine-grained enough to allow reaching the perfect angle right away?

So with all the new improvements found since FODA's movie got published, what's a realistic estimate for an end time? 1:35? Is 1:30 even worth dreaming about??

I wouldn't be too surprised if 1:35 or lower is achieved, but to put it quite simply the current one can be improved by a lot more than what most people are willing to admit, after all a 0.6 pluggin versus a controller is a no contest as to whats best.

Take out all the speed/entertainment tradeoffs from FODA's movie, and the sub-1:40/1:35 goal becomes much more attainable.

FODA's movie used analog stick? Wow, that must kill the fingers having to hold down positions 40,000+ times.

I can't imagine doing it through an interface.

Holy crap, people. I pointed out an EFFORTLESS way Rikku could improve his run by 7 seconds (By jumping to the left right before Bowser's death animation displays) and NO ONE has paid any attention WHATSOEVER to it!

maybe because it doesn't work? Look, the star doesn't appear until you scroll through Bowser's ending message. You can't activate the message when you're in the air, thus you're forced to stay on the ground and have the last input be when Mario jumps to get the star.

This won't work. Try it yourself if you are so convinced. (I'm posting the same thing as others since you missed multiple responses last time.)

LMAO! Have you ever even played the game before? What all of us said should be trivial knowledge after beating the game once.

Even if it was possible the nature of the text cutscene would cause mario to stand on the ground, star appearing and star dance animations are completely different things in the game as well.

Basically we need to check if there is a frame of opportunity to jump just after the last text box is cleared but before the star appears.
