Where does MIPS 2 play into that? How exactly would you get from DDD room to LLL without opening the star door? Wouldn't it be less traveling if you went to SSL then LLL then HMC? Where would secret aquarium play into this? After JRB? EDIT for sonicpacker: You still need enough stars for MIPS #2!
BBH shouldn't have any effect on MIPS2 or the route of those levels. I said to do it afterwards. *edit* Another question would be, is it faster to skip DDD and do BitFS first, or just Side BLJ into DDD first?

It's faster to blj from HMC to DDD. this is because you can't exit the BitFS room without warping back to the start, then you would have to do the other levels of the basement. If you do the basement levels first, you don't have to backtrack. Since you can't skip DDD from the HMC stairs, It's faster to do DDD first. Alternatively, you could do the basement levels and then VCUtM, warp back to start and then do the DDD skip.

Okay, then it would be : Enter the castle CCM/WF Either exit course or BLJ from room into PSS (if possible) PSS (either star) BLJ into BitDW (get the red coins star, beat bowser) From BitDW, side blj into PSS PSS (either star) ToTWC CCM/WF Either exit course or BLJ from room into BoB (if possible) BoB BLJ from BoB room to BBH Go to basement MIPS #1 SSL LLL Toad #1 HMC BLJ from HMC stairs to DDD DDD BitFS (get the red coins star, beat bowser) VCutM BLJ into JRB lobby JRB Castle secret aquarium Now this part is subject to change (the first one too :P) : TTM Toad #2 THI SL BLJ through 50 star door Castle secret star with the wingcap (can’t remember the name) TTC Toad #3 RR BitS (get the red coins star, beat bowser) I made my best with this. I can't put MIPS #2 anywhere, sadly.

You have to do VCutM before DDD. EDIT: you also have to do VCutM before BBH Also, considering the time needed to be wasted getting MIPS2, you might want to consider doing JRB without the metal cap.

Route #1: CCM/WF (7) PSS (8) BitDW (9) PSS (10) ToTWC (11) CCM/WF (18) BoB (25) BLJ from BoB room to basement VCUtm (26) BBH (32) MIPS #1 (33) SSL (40) LLL (47) Toad #1 (48) Get two stars in HMC (50) MIPS #2 (51) Do the rest of HMC (56) DDD (62) BitFS (63) JRB (70) SA (71) (upstairs) Basically it comes down to the time saved with metal cap in JRB vs. the time lost from going to collect MIPS 2 and going back into HMC

So if you could, would it be faster to do bitfs first? Cause you can blj to the other stairs and skip DDD by blj'ing on those ones (from HMC stairs to 0-star run stairs to BitFS)

well, the extra blj uses up about 3 seconds I would imagine, but the time saved by favorable positioning would be only about .5 of a second. I mean, what time is there to save by doing BitFS first? the only time I can see being saved is getting a slightly quicker entry into DDD one time, which you really get anyway, just you don't realise it because the painting is further away. To tell you the truth, because the 1 star blj is considerably quicker than the 0 star blj, I would say that if you were to do DDD and BitFS separately to the rest of the basement, I would say don't do a 0 star skip, when a faster (albeit technically "slower") blj is available.

Relating to all this DDD or BitFS first, if DDD's first star is cleared, you can blj on the BitFS entrence to exit the room (I think the blj takes some time though, havent tested). Anyway, this would only be the case if we were to go to either first. Also, it's probably worth testing bljing on the 30 star door stairs in the reverse direction to possibly get to SSL faster. It is possible to get through with a punch, but this threw mario quite off for me. If it's possible to get through the door leading to SSL and have good angles and speed, I'm pretty sure that would be the best way. Ok, I'm done, now off to take a Final!

Yeah if you can get through with a punch then you can get through with nothing.

Bob, you've found a solution! simply go downstairs to VCutM, warp back to start, do DDD and BitFS, the rest of the basement, and then we'd have more than enough stars to get MIPS 2 without backtracking to HMC.

Agreed. This is the best solution.

Cool vid, just wondering what's going on with the star and lives counter? I'm guessing it's some GS/AR codes? if so, did you try with them turned off? it might affect the outcome? (due to frame durations) (didn't want to ask on youtube, since there it would sound much more like simply being rude than in here :D)

No. The values were just changed in AVI Capture each frame. It was to show Mario's speed. Doesn't affect anything. And you can't use codes in Mupen anyway.

So is the plan to work on the route while have others TAS the stars so that they can be spliced into the run?

Well we're going to get a solid route and then me and Nahoc are going to do all the stars.

Solid progress is being made. We now have one good route and 2 stars are pratically done; "Secret of the haunted books" and "Snowman lost his head". This run will happen guys, don't worry. ;)

To try to convince themselves that this run is a bigger deal than it actually is, so they feel more important. Obviously.

It's ok andymac. He has to trash others so he can make himself feel bigger. If that keeps him happy, let it go. :) On topic: I don't blame them for not releasing WIPs. Say they do 4 stars in 1 week. The next week, people will expect 8 stars to be done. People would expect work to get done at a certain speed. At least that's what I think. And good job on finalizing the route (if that is what Nahoc meant...).

Actually, it's to have more of a surprise factor when you watch the run! We will be posting how many stars we are done, but nice guess SL :)
