But it's the exact reason why I used a second screen for the N64 encodes. Unexpected popups usually occur on the first screen only. Usually. (Anyone wonder why I prefer simple desktops over complex ones like Gnome or KDE?)
You use "simple desktops" for your Firefox plugins to bug you anyway? :D It's a real shame I missed that. I thought cutting the running apps down to Firefox and X-Chat would suffice, but it seems I've been proven wrong once more. Oh well, why wouldn't anybody improve the run so we can forget about this ugly mistake? Alternatively, one might hope for Mupen64Plus to come up with a better way of capturing a run...

How about Fraps to capture? In case Mupen supports playback. But it does that, doesn't it? Fraps should only capture a specific window.

For one, because there is nothing worse than Fraps when it comes to screen recording in general. If you said Camtasia Studio maybe I would be listening to you. Maybe. Also it is explained in the FAQ: http://tasvideos.org/EncoderGuidelines.html#CapturingEncodingAMultimediaFile

So around 7 months ago, Johannes and SilentSlayers started an improvement to the 0 star TAS. Since then, me and Moltov have been "adopted" into this TAS. We have decided to go public with our TAS and will be uploading all of our findings. We estimate a final completion time of 5:19. So far, SilentSlayers has over half a second on the BitDW entry with a completely new strat. SilentSlayers and Moltov have saved 20+ frames on BitDW by getting one elevator platform earlier. I have found 7 seconds of improvements in BitFS due to a new BLJ spot and a huge new glitch that a found. I also saved a frame on the BLJ from BitDW to the basement, 4 frames on the DDD skip (one more frame over http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpPCynmJY9k and one frame on heading to the second key door after BitFS. We also have plans to do the spiral stairs in a complete new way with side BLJs. We also have found a ton of new glitches and optimization tricks, like the punching trick that accelerates you from a stop faster, found by me. If Mario is at a stop, if you punch with no controller input he will go forward for one frame with a speed of 10 (running would give you 8) you can then either jump and do a jump roll with 5 jumping frames, run for 1 frame and then long jump 1 frame earlier than normal, or run for 1 frame and slide kick one frame earlier than usual. We also found that when BLJing, on the frame where you don't jump, if you hold no input your speed locks, which gives you a shitload more speed in the long run. Download links for our work: Bowser in the Fire Sea (7 seconds faster) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1RoDU51Pt0 http://www.mediafire.com/?ndzy2dmcjtw BLJ from BitDW to the Basement (1 frame faster) http://www.mediafire.com/?ziz0w3wyz4a DDD Skip (4 frames faster) http://www.mediafire.com/?zqwjydwyidj After BitFS to second key door (1 frame faster) http://www.mediafire.com/?ojkn25y1iub -More links to come-

Since the run is so short, I'd prefer if you'd not shown us teasers and submitted the full run in 1-2 weeks time.

Don't watch what we have provided if you don't want to. Also it will take more than 1-2 weeks because the expected quality and time spent on them has improved since a few years ago when you were TASing.

Time spent <> overall effort The last 0 star run I worked on took about 6 weeks of constant work, while SMB3 equated to around a year, but it was much more on and off, but the overall effort worked out to about the same.

Okay well we have lives, and believe it or not they aren't always dedicated to TASing this game, or TASing in general. Also this one is taking longer because we have had to redo each part at least a few times because of the new tricks that have been discovered.

What the hell. o_O This is made of pure epic win. BitFS always used to be the most boring part of the run for me.

Yes, but that trick wasn't in the 5:29 so I thought I might as well include it.

so I guess we now know exactly where the warp point is, and it's not right below the rings

Way to go on the Bowser stage :) btw, is there actually a surface that you could stand on at the bottom of that funnel? Or how did you hop upwards?

Yeah there is an invisible surface that you can walk on, also it acts like ice (it's slippery and hard to turn).

Pretty much how big the pipe is. Also if you fall out you can't fall back in it pushes you out very far and quick.

How does HSWK work? I can't seem to build up speed when doing it. Does the distance between them need to be large or small? Is there a minimum speed you must be travelling in order to build up speed?

Basic info on it here: http://tasvideos.org/SuperMario64Tricks.html Shorter spaced walls are better, wall kick on the first frame possible, long jumping into the walls is easiest way. etc...
