Have you been on the site before 2011? That's essentially how all popular runs were done; it would be accepted and published the day it was submitted, then less than 24 hours later improvements would be found and everyone was left standing around awkwardly.

Is anyone planning a 120 Star improvement or possibly a 70 Star Run?

On nicodou, the "120 star production committee" (according to google translate) is working on one and they just posted a 25-star WIP. All of it is amazing but the BoB KtQ-race, 8-red-coins, and 5-secrets stars blew me away.

It would appear it was uploaded to Nico yesterday. So still might be a bit before it's finished. Lots of praise to the people making it, though. A lot of those new routes are both amazing and hilarious, especially BLJ Flying. ^.~ I can't wait for it to be finished!

Even by TAS standards, that Bob-Omb Battlefield stuff was... ... Abnormal.

God, they need to stop finding improvements, otherwise the TAS will never be finished! I also talked with Mickey and he told me he improved BoB 100 coins. Stay tuned...

holy shit, they BLJ’d the whole thing! XD amazing :) did the kick into the pipe lose time? if not that’s a nice new thing never used before O_o edit: watching again it seems like it loses time, so it was just a style thing that will be removed?

If it means that each improvement is more awesome, then I wholeheartedly approve of them redoing stages to make the finished piece of work a masterpiece.

Am I the only one surprised this hadn't been thought of before (BitDW red coins)? Btw, very nice wip of the 120. Seems well optimized

Lol my thoughts exactly. It seems pretty obvious when you think about it. I guess SM64 is pretty hex-friendly so all new improvements found can be implemented without redoing everything?

I remember reading that the RNG is not reset on level entry, so things involving randomness (e.g. enemy positions) will have to be redone if something is hexed... I hope I'm misremembering though.

Based on my experience reading about the SM64 submissions, the game actually does appear to be hex-friendly. The submission file change in the latest any% run, editing out a couple frames in BitFS, didn't actually seem to impact BitS whatsoever.

Enemy position and coin manipulation is affected when you hex something (and other things like the rolling rocks in HMC). That's why the 0 Star is easy to hex and the 120 isn't. If you have 118 stars and find an improvement on star number 2...let's just say you no longer have 118 stars.

SM64 is still very hex friendly. It fits a lot of the criteria. Encountering the RNG is a problem for any game with an RNG, and most games have an RNG. However, most games have additional complications as well. I have only encountered one game that is more hex friendly than SM64.
Measure once. Cut twice.
