Would this competition allow people new to TASing? I've not yet messed around with TAS tools for n64 but this could potentially be a fun way to get started.

I'd definitely be interested in joining then. I assume more details will be posted here once everything gets underway?

I'll probably join this competition too, just not sure if I'll have the time for some of the tasks...

It's so impressive! There was this much people lurking this thread? lol Jere where can I publicly suggest some tasks? Where? EDIT: Special TJump allowed? I'm not a fan of that but really wouldn't mind it.

You can send them privately to me. As for special TJ, it will be task specific. If I don't want it used, I'll point it out in the task description.

I wrote a guide for those wondering how to play SM64 or hacks (it will probably work for other games too) in widescreen with no screen glitching on the sides. sm64.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=21592#p21592

Hmm... The launch platform is spinning. The sides of the launch platform are moving quickly. Can you not use them either to gain speed or change your angle for more travel time? You say you need a higher platform to start with. Is it impossible to start from the target platform and return to it with the assistance of the spinning launch platform?

Responding here as to not derail it, even if it can skip to credits, can it be done within 5 mins? :P

I figure a similar effect could be caused by constantly respawning the moneybag enemy in Snowman's Land, though as long as you still need to beat Bowser in the Dark World and Bowser in the Fire Sea, the time saved would likely be small. Link to video

Now that strat was absolutely ridiculous, even for Pannenkoeks standards. How does he come up with those things?
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

I really didn't expect to agree with you. I mean, the existing ones are already my favorite tool-assisted anything, ever, and there are some pretty absurdly great ones. Just seemed like a high bar. But then it was true! By a lot!

This is completely serious: Who would enter a TAS competition run by me for this game? I'm thinking 7 tasks, come 2015, in the vein of the old SM64.org comps. I have zero interest if there will be low turnouts in terms of participants. Do not say you're interested if you don't plan on submitting, say, at least 5 out of 7 tasks. Every recent competition has a strong task 1, then a huge drop off for the 2nd. I want none of that this time around. This is the best comparison for what I want: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL13EA1448B8B022C2

There's a discussion thread on the SM64 forum, my post was only to let TASers know. ;)

It seems to be impossible to get under 5:00.0 on the USA vesrion. Could it be possible with the JPN version?

The J version is actually slower than the U version.
The main reason why japanese version is slower: Bowser texts and 50 star door text takes more time to read, and japanese version lags a bit more when loading areas.

barely slower... despite the slightly shorter opening. Without backwards longjumps: SM64 BLJ-less vs. SM64 Shindou Edition

Would it be possible to 'bruteforce' a 5 minute run?
