My guess is people are either too afraid to get involved or have disregarded the run as not happening.
Please cease second guessing. This is not your first time. Saying 'too afraid' and such is a pretty stupid thing to say. The run is done when it's done. Have a nice day.

It'd be just lovely if we could stop discussing this, thank you.

We are aiming to submit our TAS in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of SM64's North American release (Sept 29th).

Great to hear that the run is scheduled to come soon. I'm sure that lots of us have been anticipating any sort of new news about this run, so it's nice to receive an update. Looking forward to it!

that is good news indeed sonicpacker! Good luck with finishing it up! Any unforseen technical hurdles to report? I was thinking it would be hard to build enough speed outside the castle quickly to get to the moat door in PU?

I've spent a bit of time trying to guess what the solution is going to be (I have an idea that would probably work zero stars but would also probably be even slower than just getting the key) and I look forward to seeing what the real answer is.

Wow so soon! The wait is truly hard, but knowing that we are so close makes it all worth it. Can't wait to see this game-changing TAS.

(Repost from workbench thread) Just want to say, thanks for all the positive feedback (and Yes votes)! I won't speak for the other authors, but I had a lot of fun working on this, although there were plenty of frustrating moments. I'm pretty new to both the SM64 and TAS communities, and my participation in both was really an accident, so producing a significant run like this is surreal to me. It was great to collaborate directly with legends like MKDasher, sonicpacker and SilentSlayers, and to see firsthand how they work. SM64 was the first game I ever played, back when I was just a wee lad in the hospital with an ear infection. It got me hooked on gaming. I remember trying to open the underwater moat door as a little kid, and thinking how awesome it would be to pull it off. Now here we are in 2016. Anime isn't real, Bernie Sanders isn't President of the US, and we aren't living on Mars with robot slaves--but at least we got that damn moat door open. Also, I'm sorry about the fetal state of the submission text. I am writing most of it, and I have a very busy schedule, but I am working on it as I can. I promise I will divulge all the juicy details, so please be patient. :)

So I just realized that skipping the first key would very likely be done in the 120 star run as well. Is there any reason not to do that? Am I missing something that would make it slower?

You would need the red coin star in there, so it's slower to skip the first key.

But couldn't you skip the Bowser fight and the key animation for opening the basement door? I guess maybe that doesn't take as much time as I was thinking.

VCutM early might possibly save time in 120 star even if the key skip doesn't. You can get everything in VCutM in one trip, can't you? Leaving the level afterwards would be slower, but I think it might still save time on castle movement overall.

How many stars have been discovered so far that benefit from PUs in some way?
