Trojan time!
(Most of the text below is copy-pasted from my previous submission)
Trojan is a kinda simple game. You play as this great warrior who has faboulus powers. Basically this means he can walk forward and strike enemies with his sword. He also has a shield and the power to jump. Despite the fact that it is simple I really like this game. It's sort of hard because you are limited to a few movements but it's still not that hard to control.
It's been more or less a year now since I started with time attacking. I really sucked back then ;)
This run is more than a minute faster than my previous published run and also 24 seconds (if I calculated it right) faster than my recently submitted attempt. Those 24 seconds comes from jumping! This is because every now and then the hero puts his heels in the ground and stops for a frame if walking. This can be avoided by constant jumping. It's not possible though to jump all the time because of enemy spawning. This is not that big problem though because as mentioned, the hero only stops every now and then. This means I can walk some frames occasionaly without delay. Enemies also works as walls, so I must kill the ones in front of me to proceed. Finally I want to thank Blitzag for poiting this simple but yet very useful "trick" out. I don't know how I missed it but I did. Thanks!
The improved time is basically from better boss fights (compared to my oldest run). I used new strategies against every boss and also manipulated some of them to act like I wanted.
The second last boss, King Shriek, is a bit different than the others because before he/they appear they toss small stones all over the place. I didn't want to get hit by the stones but I made sure I could strike the boss/es as soon as possible, thus it resulted in some necessary waiting there. Also, they are not vulnerable before they come out from the wall so the waiting is necessary anyway.
I make two stops to pick up power upgrades. This is good because it allows me to spank bosses really fast and it's worth it. Where I pick up the second I also gets a speed upgrade for the rest of that stage. This speed upgrade is very handy, it let's me walk at the exact same speed as jumping and thus I could walk the entire forth stage, which in my opinion looks cooler.
In stage 2-2 there is a lake I have to cross. There is no delay caused by walking in the lake and it's equaly slow to jump so I choosed to walk most of the time here.
In the "vertical" levels where the goal is to reach the bottom I sometimes jump, sometimes walk to the elevator/hole. This is because it was either 1-2 frames faster or equaly fast. This depends on position of enemies and myself.
Oh, in stage 1-2, where I pick up the first power icon you might see a small delay. This is caused by an invisible wall. However, any other thing that I tested was slower than this and also it's good for avoiding that mini-boss.
I made some notes of the time units, comparing my old one with this:
Old run/previous run/ newest run:
1-1: 181/ 181 / 184
1-2: 153/ 157 / 162
2-1: 156/ 174 / 176
2-2: 132/ 151 / 155
3-1: 170/ 171 / 173
3-2: 140/ 142 / 146
4-1: 162/ 169 / 171
4-2: 122/ 142 / 144
5: 170/ 174 / 175
6-1: 183/ 183 / 186
6-2: 148/ 150 / 158
7: 196/ 197 / 197
Hi-Score:
78300 / 89350 / 92050
That's it I think.
  • As fast as possible
  • Manipulating luck
  • Takes no damage
Enjoy it!

Meh vote from me, 1st time watched. The speed were great, but the game itself looks extremely dull to me. Flat world, elevators, opening/closing door, 3 or 4 enemies, mario with sword.

This time it didn't desync even though I used the crappy rom. The small stones flying around, can't you dodge them with your sheild? If this had been a first time submission I would have thought this isn't a good choice for a game, but I see no reason why the old run shouldn't be updated with this.

I'm aware that the game is a little bad looking. It is though, in my opinion, fun to play ;) The small stones cannot be dodged with the shield.

Is it Paris? That's awesome. Another thing I like very much in this game is the music at the last boss and a bit after he is killed, when the ending scene starts ;P It's really.. unusual somehow

Back o' the Box says, according to some random FAQ: "Prepare yourself for the exciting confrontation with the ancient evil army. You are at the controls. The fate of throngs of suffering people held hostage by the brutal king's troops await freedom by Trojan! Release your imagination. Grab hold of the controls. For you are Trojan. Happy. Light-hearted. Spirited. Yet, often considered irresponsible. But Trojan...you are a superb physical being who's mastered the martial arts. Fated with relentless energy and determination, you muster courage, embarking on the challenge of invading the enemy's territory to rescue the captives from the army of the evil empire. You manipulate the controls, creating movement of Trojan's protective armored shield and the wielding of his shining sword. As Trojan, you battle knife throwing enemy troops. But watch out, for if you are hit with your opponent's weapons, you would lose your shield and sword, and would fight with your bare hands. Can Trojan and you successfully defeat the enemy and rescue the people of the world? You control their destiny!" I'm guessing Ouzo is referring to the fact that Paris was the trojan who killed Achilles in Homer's Illiad. 'course, Paris did have his arrow guided by Apollo, but about every other spear throw or sword thrust in the Illiad was guided or deflected by some deity or other so I suppose that's still fair play. Certainly no worse than being dunked in the Styx for invulnerability-sans-heel ... but, I digress. EDIT by feitclub: You cannot link directly to documents on GameFAQs. Link redirected to Trojan page.

Oh. Thanks for that Xerophyte. I got confused by the ending scene because the boss is also named Trojan, that made me think that the hero might have a different name.

some random FAQ? Way to take the wind outta my sail :) Nice job, though - always loved the game. I can appreciate your efforts, seriously - getting Armadillon to come out of the ball each time must have been impossibly tedious. Much better than the previous submission - the first manhole especially is much better. And as for "Mario with a sword," I don't see anyone complaining about ANY Mario runs being constantly optimized - I'd say this is a tribute to the game. Good job - yes vote.

It's weird, because Trojan really only means someone who lives in / comes from the city of Troy. Judging from what xero said, the Trojans should be on the opposite side of Apollo. Probably just a mess-up from the designers, as usual.

Feit, D'oh Zip, *laugh*, I did wonder briefly if it was teal-man-with-pipe Ziplock when I saw the author's name. I'll try be more reverential when referencing your FAQs here in the future :p Trunc, Troy was, for all intents and purposes, a run-of-the-mill greek city state, with the same gods and so on. It just happened to be on the coast of modern day Turkey. The Illiad had the invading greeks sack the temple of Apollo, rape the high priestess of Athena and commit other assorted acts of hubris that landed them in a heap of trouble with various parts of the pantheon and made coming home alive rather challenging for most of them.
