In this short but entertaining romhack of Super Mario Bros. by sullyrox, Mario slept in and as such only has 100 *undefined time unit*s to complete each of the 4 levels.
This run completes all 4 levels in 1:40.95, with the last input being at 1:40.58, which is 1 frame (?, 0.02s) faster than my previous TAS due to better acceleration.
  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.3
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses sprite limits or something
I tried to make this run entertaining (by jumping backwards and that sort of thing) but in a SMB romhack that's only 4 stages long it can be difficult.

1-1:

Spawning either the mushroom contained in the visible '?' block at the end of the level or the 1-up mushroom in the hidden block despawns the flag for whatever reason, saving quite a lot of time. Flagpole glitch is actually probably slower here, which is a lucky coincidence as I couldn't get it to work.

1-2:

In 1-2, you're 'supposed' to collect a mushroom from the '?' block at the beginning of the level and slide through the pipe, but it's significantly faster (and harder) to clip through the pipe as small Mario.

1-3 and 1-4:

Nothing particularly amazing happens in these stages, although it is worth noting that in 1-3 it might be possible to jump off a koopa at the end of the level, clip into the floor and do the faster version of the flagpole glitch, similar to HappyLee's SMB2j TAS, but I couldn't get this to work.

Other stuff:

At the end, where Peach asks Mario whether he can get to work with Buzzy Beatles (sullyrox can't spell Beetles), nothing I tried actually advanced the game back to the title screen to start the 2nd quest, so the buzzy beetles are lies. In 1-2, if I could save 6 frames (the best I could do was 5) I should be able to save a frame rule, but I wasn't able to.

Noxxa: Claiming for judgment.
Noxxa: This hack is very short, un-noteworthy, looks terrible, barely even changes some of the stages from the original, and is just terrible overall. Viewer response agrees. Rejecting due to poor hack choice.

Yeah. I didn't link that as the encode because 1. The timer I used shows realtime not input frames and 2. That video doesn't have the logo thingy at the start.

The logo isn't required if it's a temp encode like now, it is only required for YT when it's published

More boring than Air 2 and Hard Relay Mario. No vote. Same can be said about the hack.

I feel like you could have made a far more thematically interesting hack out of the premise that Mario is being late for work. Anyhow, there's nothing that particularily stands out about the hack or the TAS. If you want to make a TAS for an SMB hack, there's way better ones around.

Hello, Jhynjhiruu, welcome this side. I think it too short so I don't feel compact, and entertainment is not high, maybe you can try another long smb hack. sorry, no vote.

You seem to have what it takes to run a TAS but i would suggest a different game. This hack gets a "heck no" but since you seem to have skills, i'll give it a... "meh". Looking forward to your next run

I didn't see enough difference to set this hack apart from the vanilla levels. Sorry. I think this was just the wrong hack to run for a TAS.

I am working on a much better hack (don't tell sullyrox I said that) but it currently crashes at the end of 1-2, so... yeah
