This should make for an even speedier speed-run! The one on the site is great for playing as-is, but there's an even faster way to beat the game. Take a look at this video http://shmorky.com/nes/boyblob-ketchupglitch.html What you do is hold the button to throw a ketchup jellybean, run back and forth to build momentum, then launch it as far left as you can. If you did it just right you'll see the final screen for a split second. Then throw another ketchup jellybean to get the blob back. You'll notice all the enemies are gone now! You don't have to slow down once and you can just breeze through all of Blobonia! I hear that you can do this trick with any jellybean, but I never tried that. I discovered it this way a long time ago. I don't want this to be like a request or anything but I'd love to see someone zip through this as fast as possible using this glitch!

Wait, THE Shmorky? Man, this guy is everywhere. Anyway, I couldn't really see the video because this dial-up connection I'm stuck with for the next few days has been pooping out on Flash animations. But good job on finding a new trick.

Most of the time I just send a private emails for these things.

That's a cool glitch. However, seeing the screen with the king makes me wonder if there's even more to it... Does this put the blob in the king's room? If so, could you then throw an apple and win immediately?

To the left of the first screen is the King's room. The way the trick works is that when you run towards the left side, you time the releasing of the bean so that it first appears past the barrier that prevents you from entering the room in the first place. The camera view follows the bean into the room and that's why you can see it. Just make sure you don't make any movements afterwards with the boy, or the camera will go back to the boy again. If you throw a ketchup bean in there, it does put the blob into the king's room. The problem is, when the blob is in the correct position under the basket, he is out of your throwing range. If you can find a way to throw a bean a least half a screen's length, then you can finish the game in under a min.

That gives you Lime, the key bean. What you can bypass entirely (as shown in the first speedrun) are the treasures/vitamins. I beat the game in five minutes, but I am sure a more seasoned gamer can do much better. edit Seriously I doubt you can throw the apple jellybean in there, not that far anyway. He wouldn't even be lined up.

Ok, so maybe under a minute isn't possible. However, does it have to be a ketchup? Any bean will shift the screen, eliminating enemies, right?

Why would you need to get the lime beans if you can access the King’s room without it? Secondly, you can throw an apple in there and have the blob eat it. I made a demo to show. http://members.shaw.ca/richu/AboyandhisblobGlitch.zip The first throw is to prove that it really is the King’s room, and that the blob can be in the proper position. Observe as the blob heads to the left and is stopped once he reaches the left boundaries of the cage, just as he would be if you normal enter through the door. This is also the position the blob must in to properly utilize the jack. The next set of throws gets the blob to turn into a jack in the room. The throw is short of the correct position, and like I said, it would take a longer throw to finish the game in under a min. If you get this method to work though, there would be no need to get the lime beans or run several screens to the right. Maybe if someone did more testing, a way can eventually be found.

Yeah I added that edit after I figured out what you're saying. I'll say it again You can't throw a bean that far. Not into the next screen anyway. I have tested the HELL out of this game, finding every secret possible and I just haven't found a way to throw a bean that far from a wrong screen. I would love it if I could be proven wrong though, opening up a whole new can of worms in the Blob universe. edit and no I don't think it has to be ketchup. That's just what I discovered this secret with.

Sleepz, it looks like your first throw has plenty of distance to it. Why don't you do the Wall trick as your first entry into the room and give it that much distance? If you got the Blob to sit still where the first bean lands (between the rightmost and second-from-right bars on the cage) it looks like he'd be right under the jar of vitamins and still within range of your next throw.

Still out of range. It's not enough just being right under the vitamins. The blob needs to be at the end of the cage and will automatically move to the right position after transforming.

Thank you very much, but I already know this site, and you can't link from there directly, so the link is 'dead'. :) Maybe, someone other got Mapscans of that game. Greets; Calist0.

Well how about going to that site and navigating it yourself? Or maybe you need other maps? In that case I can't help you...

I navigate on that site myself awhile ago and some other times, but they don't have all maps of that game. :)

I see what's going on. The first throw only LOOKS like it has enough distance because it managed to put the blob inside the cage. It could have been a few pixels off from missing the cage entirely, but it managed to put the blob in the cage. Another toss wouldn't make it. It has to be high enough to reach the blob's tongue, and it would miss that by a slim margin. If someone could find a way to give the boy more distance, then it could be possible. That, or make the boy magically appear inside the evil king's room along with the blob.

huh? In my game, there's a house stopping you from throwing anything to the left...

Watch Shmorky's demo. He uses the rocket to get to the field, then throws stuff to the left.

Hey, got an idea, but I'm having trouble executing this glitch. Anyway, my idea is to use a trampoline to jump up and throw the bean from in the air to get the extra distance to the cage. Of course this means the blob will be a trampoline, so you'd have to throw a ketchup (hitting the tramp before it hits the ground,) maybe whistle, then throw the apple and hope that splatting on the ground doesn't prevent beating the game. There's may be something preventing this, but I just thought I'd throw this idea out and see if anyone can make it work. Good luck!

that's a very good idea... I'll go and try it... update, it works! I did it incredibly flukily though. You need to position the tramp just a bit away from the side then run towards it, pressing 'a' about 7 seconds before you hit it, (I had it on 6% speed) so that you throw the ketchup at pretty much the exact time you hit the tramp. Then you need to whistle at the height of your first jump and hold up so that the blob disappears once again at pretty much the same time you hit the tramp. You should bounce about one screen high, press left at the very top of your jump and throw the apple then whistle straight away to get the blob to move towards you. I think it worked but I have a faulty rom so, instead of showing the ending sequence, it all became very glitchy.
