After a quick glance at the main page, I prefer the experimental dark mode... Full disclosure, I tend to prefer dark mode in most situations.

A lot of people prefer dark modes. You don't have to really have to like light modes. However, some people prefer light modes for certain accessibility related reasons so I definitely think there should be both.

The forum password is the one that is ported to the new site, so this is NOT why you can not log in. Attempting to recreate the old phpbb2 logic can be tricky, I suspect some characters in the password are not quite handled correctly.
For reference, the password was 64 characters long and contained spaces, dashes, brackets and ISO 8859-1 characters.

A few more issues that I noticed, looking at my current submission: https://tasvideos.mistflux.net/7211S - The beta character is not encoded properly in the Emulator field. - The Start Type field is set to Unknown, while I started the movie from power on with default SRAM. The data appears to have been imported before the bogus SRAM warning was fixed on the old site though, but that makes me wonder why I'm not seeing said warning on the new site. - "Submitted edited" is a bizarre wording to indicate the last update metadata. I'm not sure what the actual intent was. - The date and time is in a format that is confusing for people outside the USA. I recommend reverting to the ISO 8601 format. - In the submission comments, I'm not sure why the spacing before the 2nd paragraph has a wider height than the one after it, when I did no such thing.

We are currently 58% of the way towards reaching the 2.1 Release Milestone. This milestone represents the rewrite going live. Once there are no more issues tagged for 2.1 release, we hit that milestone and will go live. If anyone wants to look for ways to contribute, addressing these issues are our top priority.

Some issues I've noticed with the movie pages just now: - There's no option for filters in the UI. This means that if you want to look at the movies via a particular category or order, you have to go to the old site, check what the URL for what you want is there, and then enter the equivalent of that URL on the new site. Apart from being very inconvenient, this system immediately stops working when the old site goes offline. - A lot of movie page URLs that previously worked just end up redirecting you to the general Movies page (in particular, ones where you aren't limiting the results by platform or year). This is problematic in certain use cases (for example, wanting to look at all movies sorted by length rather than just the first 100), and also breaks a lot of the links under "Special Categories". - I presume this is already known, but there seem to be missing modules under "Movies by category" and "Search" on the general Movies page.

Missing modules are listed as issues required to be solved for 2.1 release.

I initially felt apprehension when I heard about the rewrite project. My experience with redesigns and migrations is that they can have the discouraging side effect of breaking years-old stable links and losing history. The gain—in new technologies, improved URL design, or what have you—was diminished by a break in continuity. I was therefore gladdened when I tried an old-style forum link: https://tasvideos.mistflux.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=508259#508259 and saw that it redirected to the same post in the new forum, down to the HTML anchor! https://tasvideos.mistflux.net/Forum/Topics/22808?CurrentPage=1&Highlight=508259#508259 This is, honestly, tremendous. It gives me confidence in the developers and their attention to detail. It was this experience that made me feel the rewrite project was worth some of my time and attention. This site is not only a place for ongoing contemporary discussion and the development of new speedruns. Its history is one of its greatest assets. At a time when much of speedrunning history is falling into the black hole of Discord or random Google docs, where it is bound to disappear in a few years, TASVideos serves as an example of how to do things right. Think of those Summoning Salt videos that cite forum posts from a decade or more ago, and how those vital historical links might have been lost if not for careful stewardship. I see the preservation of past history as one of the main responsibilities of the site as it proceeds into the future. After all, cool URIs don't change 😎. I appreciate the effort that has gone into the rewrite. It is good to feel that what I contribute today will not be lost tomorrow. You have my support!

I've been following the new site's progress. Thank you TiKevin83 and Masterjun for fixing the UI, it looks really appealing and beautiful now! I've been testing it on desktop and mobile and have some bugs to report (not including the ones I posted on GitHub already).

The word "edited" is extraneous and misleading, and should be removed. That field shows the date and time the movie was originally submitted. Last update time is already at the bottom of each submission page. For Game pages: -We have over 2200 game entries with no description yet. Can we hide the Description field if a game has no description? -Similarly, the Genre field is only filled out after a game has a published movie. We have at least 50 games with no publications, is there a way to hide that field for those too? -For games with "0 Obsolete" publications, clicking that link takes you to the current publications. Can we make "0 Obsolete" just text and not a link when there aren't any obsolete movies to link to? -"Good tools" should be "GoodTools". It refers to the collection of GoodTools ROM names. -"DisplayName" should be "Display name", like on the old site. Otherwise, well done to everyone involved. Looking forward to the live release.

Some of these are nitpicks and some of these are just bugs. * The date format keeps changing (I've seen the new site use m/d/yyyy and d/m/yyyy). I'm not quite sure why yyyy-mm-dd was abandoned in the first place. Moreover, I can't find any way to change the time format display from 12 hour to 24 hour. * On the userfiles page, in the left column there's no space between usernames and the latest times (i.e. "Abbie(latest: 11/21/2020 5:22 PM)"). * I saw the timezone issue mentioned on the tracker, but I'd like to point out also that I can't distinguish Australia/Sydney and Australia/Brisbane in the current list; both are currently listed as "(UTC+10:00) Australian Eastern Standard Time", but Australia/Sydney has DST and Australia/Brisbane doesn't. Otherwise, the redesign seems to be going well.

Sort of a new feature to TASVideos has been added: the ability to select pronouns. This replaces the gender symbol selector that is present on the current site. To access it go to Profile > Settings. On forum posts pronouns are displayed next to one's username. In desktop view this is below the username and on mobile it's to the right. There have been a large number of other updates as well since last reported here as well such as rss feeds and redis cache. EDIT: Quick clarification: Pronouns for imported users (aka accounts from the current site) are based off the gender symbol selected in settings here. You can still change them at any point later.

Can there please be a way to add categories to movies like wikis? That way, if say, a movie is missing "heavy luck manipulation" we don't need to pm a mod. Being like a wiki, edits could be reverted too in case of vandalism (maybe make it so people must have 1 movie published to edit?)

That's already allowed to non-staff people. All you need to know is ask to be given the Vested Editor role, then you can edit movie tags all you want. Btw I personally think it's good to keep it working this way.

Tried out the demo site. If I try to pull up, say the NES Moons category, things load fine. If I try the NES All category, site breaks with an Internal Server Error message. (And as I type this, now I get a 503 error. I seemed to have pulled a PJ on the demo site.)

503 error was the site restarting to deploy changes. The internal server error is curious though.

Looks like it happens to only GB/GBC/SGB and NES on their Standard and All categories. Stars and Moon on those two systems are fine. I checked all of the "All" categories on all systems on the page and the rest loaded fine. Edit: Now fixed. Tested all 4 and they all load now.

AdI'mditional feedback: - Most lsnes builds are still using an insecure HTTP link.
This is not an issue with the new site, but with the old. I can't magically fix this on the new one. If there are https links that can be added, this needs to be brought up in an appropriate thread.
I don't think so. The affected links are hosted on subdomains of this site, specifically ilari.tasvideos.org and nach.tasvideos.org. That means Firefox blocks the download of the recommended version of lsnes on the new site only, and that also means HSTS cannot be fully deployed on the main site without breaking the download link in all major browsers as well. Therefore, I believe this is the appropriate thread to raise this. It's worth noting that the build archives on lsnes.tasbot.net does not include said recommended build for some reason, so there's no official HTTPS mirror for it as a workaround. (More precisely, it is hosting version rr2-β23, but not with the SGB Core.)

According to these 2 pages, both of them are listed as UTC+10:00. I believe it will use the correct day light saving time if you set it. https://www.zeitverschiebung.net/en/timezone/australia--sydney https://www.zeitverschiebung.net/en/timezone/australia--brisbane

The issue you quoted was posted before the fix showing the names of the timezones. Both of those were literally listed as "(UTC+10:00) Australian Eastern Standard Time" before. You had to randomly guess which one corresponds to the proper timezone, so you couldn't just "set it". It was fixed with this commit and you can now distinguish timezone names.

hello, i'm a long-ish time lurker of the site! i noticed that it's being rewritten, and figured i'd give my thoughts on a thing i noticed in the demo's layout that i feel pretty strongly about. and that is... the high amount of whitespace! i see there's a lot more empty space around every element in the demo. this does make the site look cleaner and more modern, but it also means less information is conveyed per amount of screen space! on the current site's homepage, on a 1366x768 monitor (the size that i use) and without touching the scrollbar, i can see the featured movie <table>, the tasvideos news <div>, and a good amount of the latest publications <div> all at once; if i scroll down some, i can then fit in the latest publications, newest submissions, and most of the newest user files/WIPs <div>s on my screen. but in the demo, right off the bat i can only see as far as the latest publication <h2>; the featured movie and tasvideos news <div>s, by themselves, already take up almost the entire screen! and going down further, the latest publications <div> also takes up the entire screen by itself, and so on... now, this is partially to blame for the increased font-size and line-height, which... well, i personally didn't have any problem with the values for those properties in the current site, but i do understand that the values in the demo make things easier to read. but on the other hand, there're a lot of margins and paddings that i feel are too big, such as in the news <div>; and some <br>s around the latest publications, newest submissions, etc. <div>s that i feel aren't necessary at all? it's a lot of little things that all combine to take up a lot of space. now, to be fair, most of my problems have to do with the homepage, with the movies, articles, emulators, etc. pages looking fine (and the use of a grid-like design in the game resources page works nicely to break up the list into multiple columns, though again, way more empty space between each cell than is needed (and also, is there a specific reason why the actual display: grid was not used...?)). with that in mind, i assume that the design is still being worked on, and i probably have nothing to worry about... but these things are always annoying me in other sites, so i just wanted to make sure that you're aware of this, or that all these design decisions are being made with purpose! uhhh yeah i think that's about it for me. i'm a big fan of the site, so i'm looking forward to the rewrite making it even better!

(This post is meant only for reference why things are as they are, not as a criticism to the feedback. Good feedback everyone :D) It's important to note how a lot of the pages of the site are Wiki pages, meaning the pages you see are being rendered from the Wiki source code, even the Front Page. The new lines and groups of %'s force a line break. These source codes are imported directly into the demo site, and the whitespace in the source code will remain how it looked best on the old site. Of course, Wiki source code can and will be adjusted, but this can only start once the old site doesn't depend on them anymore (i.e. when the old site is replaced). Once that happens, even if text or images are bigger, there can be quite a lot of whitespace improvement by restructuring content!
