Well then,

On a slightly more serious note, in that case you should go edit your first post again and remove the Bowser blurb. And can anyone name some particular levels that would actually benefit from the frog suit despite the mushroom house delay? I don't doubt that such levels exist, but I bet they're fewer than you think. -hanzou

remember that the hammer bros and frog suits are accessible inside some levels. and I really hope you decide to use the cloud to skip some levels

I think a no-warp, no 100% level, using all items you want included cloud will make the video 100% better than Tokushin's video.

Yeah, you typically need to go outside the normal path to find a special pipe, hit a giant question block, then watch as the item slowly rises out. In other words, it's even slower than getting these items from mushroom houses. edit:

Totally. Another benefit of the (1), (3), (2) priority order, as I shall refer to it, is that you establish a clear record time for each level played. On the other hand the (1), (2), (3) order results in less meaningful times on many of the levels and shaves off maybe a only couple minutes in an hour-long run. -hanzou

I think having 3 makes sense for this game. Also, the options you listed are analogous (in another game) to: - 16 star - 70 star - 120 star

Isn't there a "sample" warpless done on famtasia?. i think you can download the fmv from the current 100% run. that should give some help to JXQ

I don't think clouds should be used. May as well do every level, that way the viewers get to see the fastest time for every single one. In which case, 1-3-2

but think about the auto-scrolling ones.. pretty boring, even because we saw lots of times (in kyrsimis and genisto runs for example) what you can do with the cannonballs from the ship level

Hmm.. Theres seems to be a Dispute between 2 goals. Goal 1: go for an overall fastest time of the game.(100%) Goal 2: Go for fastest time in every level.(100%) Goal number 1 shows how fast the game CAN be beaten in, while goal number 2 shows how mario can DOMINATE every level and finish with AFAP times. Maybe we should have a vote? Or, what should i do. I am doing this in favor of the viewers :)

Do two separate runs! ;) I'd be in favour of "fastest possible individual levels" if the other involves using a cloud. (I feel it shouldn't be used.) If you want to do an all-level run, without skipping any levels, I'd prefer that. Andreas

My opinion is that the goal should be to minimize the overall playing time. If slowing down a specific level to achieve this is necessary, I think that's what should be done. In JXQ's and mine's Super Demo World movie, there were a number of levels that could've been finished faster if we had spent lots of time backtracking on the worldmap to fetch various items in mushroom houses etc. I don't think this should be done unless it actually saves time.

Ok, if we use clouds (particularly on the auto scroll levels) and don't do levels that are out of our way, this run would be considered Super Mario Bros 3 Warpless. If we do EVERY level it will be considered Super Mario 3 100%. If we do all necessary levels small, it will be considered Super Mario Bros 3 minimalist? And making a minimalist 100% run would just be stupid since a minimalist run tries to get the fastest time with the least amont of items. Anything else in between cannot be considered a valid run for this site? Just my opinion.

Have anyone ever thought about making the TAS on the SNES version? I think it could be done faster... I don't know how many of you who know about this bug but: While pressing left and right at the same time Mario will run backwards in same speed as P. It works just as good in the water. Mario will have a very nice speed while swimming.

Sup. Just now I watched Tokushin's movie up through World 7 at 900% speed. It looks to me that the only two levels which would benefit from the frog suit are: - World 3-fortress #2 - World 6-5 Most of the other water levels are best done by staying on top to avoid the water. It turns out 4-4 might not need a P-wing for fastest time since Tokushin managed to get over the first hump as small Mario by stomping Lakitu. And World 7-4 is mostly underwater, but that one's an auto-scroller. Here's how I predict the outcome depending on which options are picked. - warpless fastest total time: switching between fire power/raccoon Mario done mostly in levels, several mushroom houses visited (for Jugem's cloud), frog suit used once (World 3-fortress #2 skipped), tanooki and hammer bros suits never used, Bowser and most other bosses killed with fire power. - warpless fastest level time: switching between fire power/raccoon Mario and using starmen done mostly on map, several mushroom houses visited (for suits including plain fire flower and leaf), frog suit used once, tanooki suit worn whenever but no use for statue power, hammer bros suit used to kill Bowser and bosses in worlds 5 through 8. - 100% fastest total time: switching between fire power/raccoon Mario done mostly in levels, probably only two mushroom houses visited, frog suit used twice, tanooki and hammer bros suits never used, Bowser and most other bosses killed with fire power. - 100% fastest level time: switching between fire power/raccoon Mario and using starmen done mostly on map, many mushroom houses visited, frog suit used twice, tanooki suit worn occasionally, hammer bros suit used to kill Bowser and bosses in worlds 5 through 8. The above predictions are regardless of whether you choose to do all hammer bros/piranha plants/hand-grabs. If hammer bros are not made a requirement, I suppose the warpless non-100% runs would involve a few more hammer bros fights to get hammers and clouds. -hanzou

Just a reminder that Mushroom Houses don't give you Jugem's cloud. Andreas

The only way you get the cloud other than the princess giving it to you in her letter is from Hammer Bros. So if he skipped all Hammer Bros. levels he would only get 2 clouds. Or was it 3... I can't remember how many the princess gives you.
