I think I've played a really long time with this game now. I'm playing it with the ZSNES emulator, I just finished the icecastle(the fourth crystal) and when I saved after getting the crystal my screen just turned black :O And I can't do anything about it :/ Do u guys know what can be wrong?

An update - I can almost get 1:40 now on this game... I'm kinda hoping you guys find a few more small things to make it possible for a sub 1:40 ALttP run...which is my goal.

Heh I thought you told yourself that you werent going to do this game again until someone could beat your 1:44 run. I take it then that that Madzombie guy is close? Are you using "restarts"? Good luck though, Id like to see a sub 1:40 run.
This signature is much better than its previous version.

Well, there is 4 mins of time savers found that are easy to do. Now I am relying on you guys to find some more stuff...cuz I will promise to retire from this game should I get sub 1:40.

Hello, I finally found this place. It seems some people here know I'm doing an LttP run too. I'm not sure what you would define as "close", but I think I have the potential to beat TSA's 1:44 run. I actually did a run last week that beat it by 6 seconds, but that had a couple of stupid deaths and I didn't use all the techniques that are now known. So it was hardly a submitable run. If I can beat Moldorm, Blind and Vitreous without dieind/falling off the edge then the rest of the game shouldn't be too much trouble. Those are my weakest points. I don't think I'm good enough to get sub 1:40, but if I can get into the sub 1:42 range I'll be very happy.

hey, I'm currently playing Zelda, A link to the past and I can't find the golden bomb to destroy the wall (to get the yellow sword.) I'm having the second blue sword, do I have to get another one first?

IIRC, you gotta finish dark world dungeons 5 and 6 first before the super bomb will show up in the bomb shop.

I've finished everything and Ganon has crashed into the pyramid, but I don't find the bomb in Link's house ;/

Update: I'm up to the room with four tangelas. I'll post the file when I beat the boss. I redid parts of the overworld and dungeon 2. I was wrong about the dash boots for some reason I was off by a factor of 2... :X Also, dying doesn't help. I couldn't even get within 150 frames (mostly because there's another sand thing that I have to kill.) So far I'm four seconds faster and 15 arrows pointier (I suppose that's the adjective), but my wallet's 35 rupees lighter (because I'm not going to switch to the boomerang until after the second dungeon now because I'm using the Bow + Arrows against the sandworms. But between Tower of Hera and Hyrule Castle Take 2, I'm positive that I can get 40 rupees) BTW, rupee testing is done, it's faster to grab both the chests in the Dark World than to Gamble 3 times. But only by a little bit (~150 frames). If you think grabbing the chests would be much less entertaining than magically getting 3X300 rupees in the gambling game just say so. I'll forfiet 2 and a half seconds for the sake of entertainment.

Well, if it's two and a half seconds, you should probably take the chests. We've seen that no-sweat gambling in other runs.

Yeah, the gambling is entertaining too in its own way. Just walk in, abuse the system, and escape with your ill-gotten winnings! Er... wait, you said the gambling would be slower? Never mind, then.

Deviance said it was faster to die, so I hope he can come in and clarify how and where he meant. Chests sound good to me.

I know I said I'd have the movie up before I went to sleep. But I underestimated how timeconsuming getting the sandworm battle *just right* would be. I'm going to take a nap and work on this later. You can download what I have so far here. This location is non-permanent. It should go back to being the nerdparadise one again soon. Just as soon as my partner in crime tells me the new password. ^_^;; EDIT: Oh yeah, I noticed I got my spiffy new title. Thanks to whomever did that.

That video is very impressive but it goes out of sync after you save and quit at Sanctuary. It may just be my version of snes9x though, I'm using V1.43.

You should use the Snes9x improvement located @ http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1816 That should get your movie to play right.

Also, when in doubt, check all the boxes, especially "Use WIP1 Timing" and "Open Read Only"

My settings are still 1 + 2 + 3 And I uploaded the wrong file. But that doesn't matter. I should have the finished one up in a few hours. EDIT: This file I was trying to upload last time. Back at NP.

Update: Dungeon 2 completed. 16:35 File If you're wondering what took me so long. I had some problems with the sandworms luck manip. Enjoy. *dead*

Thanks very much, I got it working. This is really impressive, I've only been watching 15 minutes and already I know more ways to play faster. I never knew you could skip killing the enemies in the Eastern Palace room with the 4 pink bubbles surrounding a pot. Now if only the llanmolas were that fast to kill in a human run...

So, I'm at a crossroads, should I wait for Deviance to get back to describe how and when to kill myself, or should I proceed?

Oh, I thought you'd decided it wasn't faster to kill yourself, at least it sounded like you tested it out pretty thoroughly. I think Deviance was talking about a speedrun, and something that saves time in a human speedrun may actually be slower in a time attack. In the sandworm battle, sometimes you shoot an arrow while spin-slashing, while other times you don't shoot the arrow - what was the decision based on each time? Also, it's obvious from the previous boss fight that you can fire arrows pretty quickly, and I think each arrow does just as much damage as a spin-slash, so maybe it would be faster to just unload lots of arrows and screw the spin-slashes? Also, keep in mind that some enemies only take half damage from spin slashes, not saying that these do but it's probably worth testing whenever you use them.

I tried out one path of two (that I saw) for killing myself. I tried the one that looked the most profitable. But I'm not very skilled at looking at the counter-intuitive yet. I can hit the sandworms twice in a row with spinslashes which is quicker than hitting them with an arrow twice. And even though the arrows do slightly more damage than a spindash (I think :? ), because they're slower I always lose a hit on the subsequent worm. Plus to manipulate the sandworms into heading toward you enough to land at least two arrows on him is *really* difficult. And you can't hit them twice if they are heading perpandicular to you. And of the limited tests I've done, you can't hit them as fast as possible if they are moving directly away from you. And remember, the Knights were much larger targets, Battle Sumarry: First set, I double spin the first, arrow the second, and double spin the third. I try to keep the sandworms out of the ground just long enough to get hit as many times as I can, and then burrow as quick as possible. All worms burrowed within 15 frames of being hit the last time I hit them this set. Second set, I double spin the first, then hit it with my sword (for the third worm direction and speed manip), arrow the second, and double spin the third. I made the second worm stay up for a very short time and the first for a long time, so I could spindash both of them at the same time next set. The third stays up longer than the rest this time. Because the randomness in where they appear isn't as touchy as the randomness in how they move and how long they stay up, I wasn't able to get him closer to me, as such I lose a few frames on a perfect fight where I somehow make them do everything right. (The timing of the third is most important, obviously) Third time, Spin bounce off the first into the second, arrow the first (dehd!), then go around the second to the third for a double spindash (the most I would'dve been able to hit the second one with was one sword swipe, which isn't worth it). Again with the speedy retreat of the third, and the slighty longer with the second so I could work on both of them at the same time. Fourth set, spin once, as short as possible, then arrow right to 2nd (dehd), arrow up to 3rd (dehd). I don't know if you can rapid fire arrows on this boss, but I'm pretty sure that the invincibility time is absolute. If I could somehow come up with a way to make them always come directly towards me, I might concievably kill them all in 2 sets. But so far, I haven't been able to sucessfully land two arrows on a single worm without sacrificing more hits than it's worth on another worm. I actually dread doing this boss again, because it's so difficult to do correctly. But if I can save even 30 frames, I'll be more than willing to do the second half of the dungeon over again. It would probably be short work for someone experienced in luck manipulation, and I need to get good at that. And I fully recognize that any shortfallings in my movies are my shortfallings as a timeattacker. Which is why I love to get comments. Because I'm still new at this, and still unsure about a number of things. I just have to get better.

Okay, here's my contribution. As I see it, the only two places where dying could conceivably be profitable are - after getting the key - after getting the big key which one did you try? It is possible, as nitsuja said, that something that is faster in a speedrun (because it's easy) isn't faster with savestates and slowdown. Around 49100 you take a very small detour to pick up arrows. You do not seem to need them, at least not in this dungeon. What are they for? When lighting the beacons, they are placed like this:
A B

C D
You do them in the order DCAB, but geometry tells me that DCBA should be faster, because you end up closer to the door. Is it because of the enemy blocking the way, or the dash afterwards? When mixing dashes with walking, you always do it perpendicular. Did you try with stopping the dash earlier and walking diagonally? Is it always slower? It feels counterintuitive, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. It might be related to the previous question too. EDIT: The antlion can be killed with one arrow or one spinattack. Switching to arrows is slow, but did you try to spinattack it?
