• Emulator used: Mostly FCE Ultra 0.98.13, but also FCE Ultra 0.98.15. The movie will playback without desync on both versions.
  • Length of movie: 33713 frames = 9min 21,88sec
  • No Warps/Passwords used (non known).
  • No Glitches/Programming errors abused (non known).
  • Takes damage to save time.
  • Aims to beat the game as fast as possible.
  • Aims to get an as high score (you get points when killing enemies)as possible without wasting any time.
This game is the sequal to "Kid Niki", so this game could probably be called "Kid Niki 2", but it never came out in the US. It's a very simple and straightforward game, but quite fun non the less. You are a ninja equipped with a shuriken, and you smack down weaker ninjas on your way to the boss on each level. Then you beat the boss and proceed to the next level. There are no special attacks available in the run (but there are some in the game that are not acquired in this run), so in this run it's just you and your shuriken.
This is a 919 frames (15,32 seconds) improvement over the currently published run: [50] NES Kid Niki 2 by Therealssjlink in 09:37.20. A lot of time was saved on boss fights, but genereal movement has been improved as well. I also kill a lot more enemies than in the current run, thus getting a higher score.
Boss fights also look a lot cleaner, because while the current run uses the turbo button when attacking the boss, thus missing with 97% of the attacks, I only attack when the attack actually damages the boss.
I also take damage in a few different places to save time. This will become obvious when you watch the run.
Here are some answers to a couple of things in the run:
  • Sometimes you'll see that I pick up a pair of shoes. These makes you run faster, so I try to pick these up as early as possible in every stage, if there are any shoes to get in that level.
  • Although it may not seem like it, bosses are killed as fast as possible. Before the last hit, they have a longer invulnerebility period, that's why there is a longer wait before the final blow.
  • I tried to kill as many enemies I could without wasting any time, although it could be possible I've missed one or two. This however doesn't waste any time at all, and I've no intention of redoing this just to kill one more enemy without saving any time. But as I said, I believe I got most of the enemies. :)
  • Jumping is equally fast as walking, but when you attack while on the ground, you stop while performing the attack. This does not happen if you attack while in a jump. Therefor all attacks I make are made while in the jumping motion.
  • Sometimes, especially on the first stage, I pick up several other items besides the shoes. These items don't do anything except give you more points.
It was fun making this movie, I actually made most of this several weeks ago, and then found out that I haven't finished this movie recently, so I decided to finish it... It's in my opinion not such as great improvement timewise, but in terms of playing precision and entertainment value, this run is very good. It's a sad thing this game never reached USA. Anyway, Enjoy the movie.

Thank you Guybrush! And thanks to everyone else who have voted yes on this. This game is very straightforward, which makes it hard to improve much... There are no special moves that allows moving forward faster (such as sliding in Mega Man), which makes a run like this hard to improve much timewise. So with these things in mind, I think this is a decent improvement. And yes Vatchern, the level select music isn't the best I've heard either... ;)

The part about no special attacks or moves is incorrect. You can get a wave attack, forcefield, and transform into a frog, an elephant or a bird. I doubt that it would be faster to use any of those, but they are in the game.

Oh yes, you're right Hecatomb... I'll change the description to "there are no special attacks to be used in the run" instead to avoid confusion. Thanks for pointing that out.
