This week's ironchef- I mean, minimovie ingrediant is: City Connection! Goal: Beat the game. Fastest time wins. Beating the game = beating level 7. NO WARPS. This means, no balloons, because of the weird way the warp system works. Rom: City Connection [U]

There's a (slight?) problem: The game apparently doesn't end. That's what Wikipedia and this review say. Based on my recent playing, it seems true. You can use warps, but you never get a "Congratulations! You won!" message and the levels seem the same after a while. Makes you wonder about the point of the warps...

Oh, sorry for that little part; by "beat" I mean "beat the first 7 levels", since it repeats after that.

So, does that mean that we can't use warp balloons? Or how are you going to keep track of the levels?

Whoever beats level 7 the fastest. No balloons, because it changes which cities have which road layouts.

would combining this with the TAS Famtasia improvements be helpful at all? not to say someone should rush through the entire game in a week, but that it should be taken perhaps level at a time? like CV1; see who can beat the first level quickest. or maybe combing through the 'wish lists' might help as well. or maybe not.

Yes, I think you should pick one game, then have everyone go at 1 level at a time, continuing from the previous fastest movie, until the game is finished. It would be a nice mini competition AND might ultimately result in a published movie. I think people are not participating because they feel their efforts would be completely wasted once the competition is over. Maybe if they have a chance of their play being used in a popular TAS, more people would participate.

What if you have to do something slower in one level in order to be better equipped and make up the time plus extra in the next level?

Hmm. Well, I guess the route would be decided beforehand and the player would have to fulfill the requirements for their run to be valid (like get level 3 boomerang or something). If that's not feasible for some reason, I don't think that game would be a good candidate for this.

I think combining our topics is a great idea. Lets pick a famtasia game and work at it one section at a time. I wouldn't recommend castlevania for this, since it is a difficult run to reporduce and potentially problematic for making early levels longer to save time later (like bag mentioned) A couple of suggestions: Wrath of the Black Manta TMNT2 Tecmo Superbowl (could be interesting since entertainment will be a big factor, intead of just speed)

This sounds like a good idea... I'm up for doing a segment or two, as long as it's a fairly good game, and it will of course be a plus if it's fairly popular so I've played it before. ;) I recommend a typical platformer that doesn't require too much planning beforehand, since even unexperienced users often can contribute to such a TAS. Just my 5 cents.

Okay, so any game ideas? How about doing the Contra base levels (levels 2 and 4). They're incredibly hard to optimize, so we could do one room per week or something. I think those levels are the only reason there is not yet an updated movie for that game.
