Star Ocean is Tri-Ace's first work. Story is bad. But battle system and skill system are very good. It is very fun! Personally I want Tri-Ace to remake it.

Modern Planet Roak

  • Ratix had no Yasei no Kan(Wild instinct). His Yasei no Kan is blossomed later.
  • Random encounter of this game usually can't be manipulate. But you can manipulate random encounter only when you run after Milly. It is impossible to manipulate random encounter except that time.
  • I got ruby because I will make Berserk Ring from it.

Past Planet Roak

  • Iria had Kiyou na Yubisaki(Manual Dexterity).
  • I bought knowledge skill level 1 and sense skill level 1 and technique skill level 1 at Hot. Therefore I got 420 Fol at Clatos.
  • I went to disused mine of Metox in order to get Dwarven Sword and gain experience and Fol before hideout of pirate. I found the glitch that you can skip random encounter. It occurs when moving to the following area and encounter occur at the same time. And music is played back from the first then. But it seems to be used only where the name of place shows on the upper screen. I used it to skip the battle except shadow flower and three slimes. You can run away quickly only in shadow flower battle, and I gained experience and Fol in three slimes battle.
  • The more the participation member, the more quickly you can run away from battles. Therefore, I returned participation member to three people.
  • I got rainbow diamond because I will associate Marvel and I will get her to customize Holy orb.
  • You can skip the event of Astral to take the ship after staying lodging.

4 Emblems

  • Marvel's first talent depends on the timing of going out of Ecdart(Case of no encounter). And I want her to have originality. Because she customize Holy orb. Therefore, I delayed going out of Ecdart in order to manipulate her first talent.
  • I stopped on the eve of going in Portmis. Because I manipulate movement of passer. If I go in Portmis at once, there is passer on stair.
  • I found the another glitch which you can skip random encounter. When character who has no Yasei no Kan(Wild Instinct) scouts, you press X button to open menu on the eve of random encounter. Then it occurs.

Demon World and Revorse Tower

  • The screen glooms briefly after first Del Argaswy battle. This bug seems to relate to the glitch that you can skip random encounter. It is normal after random encounter. I repeated pressing A button 2 frame and releasing 1 frame one after the other during then.
  • Asmodeus's appearance changes whenever he damages a little. And he is invincible meanwhile. Therefore I kept stunning him in order to prevent him from being invincible. I used same tactic in Jie Revorse and Neo Revorse battle.
  • I used snes9xw-improvement7(use WIP1 timing, sync samples with sound CPU)
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Manipulates luck
I'm sorry when this comments and explanations are obscure. Thank you, everyone!

There's no denying that Star Ocean is a damn fun game to play (indicating that I have at least played some of it), but that doesn't mean that all fun games are a delight to watch. Plot and unfamiliarity have nothing to do with it on my end. I played through Pokémon RB a number of times, and I still didn't find watching that TAS to be any more thrilling (it also doesn't help when the run is threatening to put you to sleep). As for the CT run: if it weren't for taking note in the various strategies that the TASer used, I wouldn't have liked that run either.

I haven't watched this run, and I've never played the game, but part of me was surprised this was published so quickly, because there are some runs in the queue that are much more accepted, going by the vote counts and the comments left on this thread, and also because this is a long run (meaning it would take awhile to encode). On the other hand, part of me wasn't surprised, because Bisqwit had shown a lot of interest in this run while it was being made. While I don't think that's the greatest reason in the world, it's not my site.

I have never found any interest in any RPG movie ; providing Zeldas aren't RPG of course. Too long and not enough action. A lot of incredibles things, as far as I have understood, are what we can't see : mainly, how encounters were avoided. The problem is that it isn't spectacular enough, unless you've played the game and faced all those enemies. As for the judging problem : the judges have admitted that they're not 100% fair ; they said it's because they can't judge games they don't know, and so many obscure games have movies submitted. The fact that some submissions were "too" quickly published could be, IMHO, explained because the judges knew these games more than others games. I won't vote since I won't watch the movie, nor ever download any divx of it. Judging is a subjective activity, no one is forced to watch something they don't like, while many have the right to be pleased by a type of game they cherish :) //edit : anyone with a *X* nick to post next ? ;)

Oh my god, you went a made Star Ocean run, very nice! It's true that Star Ocean doesn't have that much 'action' going on and there is alot of dialogues to go trough. If you haven't played and loved the game already, I can imagine it's pretty difficult to like this run. But among snes rpgs Star Ocean is one of the better ones and already for it's name there is no reason to reject the movie if it's done well. I liked how you got the items in Metox secret cave and used the glitch to avoid battles. The battle to get experience was also lovely. Boss battles looked good also. Too bad the bosses all go down so quick. Thanks for the movie, fuzi2!

Unfortuantely when watching this run I felt the same way others did: It hardly entertained me after the first two minutes. By no means I want to put down fuzi2's work, as numerous people monitored the various WIPs and said they were really well done. But the language barrier, the lack of action and the amount of roaming the map and skipping through novels of dialog destroyed it for me. Hopefully fuzi2 will pick up another RPG some time and others (who actually played this game) will get something out of this movie.

I agree with the "no" voters. I love this game, it's one of my favorite RPGs, but this simply wasn't fun to watch. Fuzi did a great run of this game and excellent luck manipulation but I just couldn't stay interested.

Thank you for publishing this movie. But this is disreputable... I feel many people are dissatisfied with my using the glitch that skip random encounter. Battle system of this game surely is good. And I think people hope for how I get over random encounter. But if I don't avoid random encounter, it is only natural that this movie is slower. This movie aims for fastest time. If I don't use the glitch that skip random encounter, will you satisfy with this movie? I don't think it is so. I'm sorry if this is irrelevant. Anyway, though I planed to make version 2, I never make it because this movie is disreputable.

I can understand that this is a good RPG, and that fan translations aren't accepted in speed runs, but I really could not get interested in the run due to the fact I have no idea what is being said at all, and therefore, I have no idea what's going on in this game. It's a nice thing for the Japanese people, but for those of us who don't speak the language or know a lick of it, it's just not that interesting. Perhaps I could propose a second movie for the English speaking crew? I don't see where a translation patch would screw anything up in re-playing a movie, and a link to an English version could just be put up on the board. That way, it's just fair to everyone, and the rules aren't being broken as far as I could see. n_n

>I don't see where a translation patch would screw anything up in re-playing a movie, and a link to an English version could just be put up on the board. Since Japanese has fixed font width, and European languages usually don't, translators usually hack the graphical routines of the games to implement it. This almost always has an effect on timing. That, and also speech segments aren't guaranteed to even be of the same length any more. Either of those means instant desync. I hope that's a more helpful answer than "Everywhere".

OK, thanks. I didn't realize there'd be such a timing difference involved.

...no it does not. Use the original Japanese version. Please see Truncated's post above to see why the English translated version does not work. Keep in mind that the English version is a translation/hack made by fans of the game. Therefore, the English version is not official and not accepted at this site (Star Ocean was only released in Japan).
