Submission Text Full Submission Page
This movie is the TAS of Metroid Legacy, which is one of the most famous hacks of Super Metroid. It was completed in June 2005, and had already been published at a certain Japanese website. Having a chance, I'm just submitting it into the worldwide community for the first time.

Metroid Legacy Introduction

"Metroid Legacy" is well-balanced, full-changed hack of Super Metroid.
Features of this hack are following.
  • Almost all of the landforms, placement of enemies, room connections, item order are changed.
  • It contains whole new world that is not associated with original world.
  • Upgraded game difficulty throughout all scenes, especially boss fights.
  • No change of game systems like movement of Samus and enemies, graphic-chips, 100 items.
  • No need of gilche knowledge to complete game.
The whole new world, which is entirely differ from original world, spreads out in this game. You can enjoy new exploration, searching routes, looking for required items, fighting enemies. Operation of Samus is same to original one, so you can play it smoothly. You will re-experience the first impression of Super Metroid.

Movie introduction

This smv movie was created with Snes9x-143-WIP1-win32 (WIP!!) and it
  • takes damage to save time
  • gets all items, 100%
  • aims for the fastest time
  • shows all secret routes in this game
  • runs through almost reverse order, unbelievable and stupid routes
  • contains several new tricks which may apply to original game.
Although speed run technique used in this movie may be old-fashioned, whole routing in 100% run of Legacy must be still fresh and full of originality. I believe you will have an enjoyable time for watching it, and for the sake of your best fun, I strongly recommend you to play Metroid Legacy with your own hand before watching my movie. Thank you!

New Tricks contained

  • Torizo quickest kill
    • It save time for 1-2 second(s) to beat Torizo by skipping one of his attack phases.
  • Sprore Spawn quickest kill
    • It kills him in second turn by using muscle way.
  • hopping ball / spring dash (I dont know how to name it...)
    • Samus keeps her speed through narrow pipe or other complex situation by using spring ball.

Information

  • Play Length : 1h 26min
  • Re-record count:26514
  • Clear Time : 49min
  • Colecting Item Rate : 100%
  • Emulator : Snes9x-143-WIP1-win32

I thought you aren't supposed to vote before watching a movie. And this hack is accepted.

Wow, a little more accuracy/precision a using newer techniques and stuff and maybe a little more planning and a movie like this will be the best thing ever. I enjoyed this movie alot, and even if it's not of the original Super Metroid, I believe it might be the best Super Metroid based movie I've seen so far. And by the way, I believe getting 10 missiles before Spore Spawn to kill it in one round is the fastest way of killing it, so I wouldn't really call a 2-round "Spore Spawn quickest kill"

im voting meh on this movie There are a lot of tricks that have been discovered since this was made so the boss fights are really slow and the way he runs also. Also he said so in the description but the route is obviously not the best ( though i found it entertaining this way ) on the other hand, it WAS well played just not with the newer tricks like Graveworm said. I found it very entertaining so i thought about voting yes but i figure since we know its not optimal its probably not meant for this site oh and i seriously had forgotten that boss existed, Spore Spawn..

The thing I noticed most was the fact that many times the player ran off ledges even though he/she could've jumped, but there was also other irregularities in the movie. Even though I must say I was very impressed by how smooth the author handled many things in the game, things I might never had thought of doing. And really, the boss battles weren't that slow, Kraid was good, Phantoon could've been killed with missiles instead for greater speed and Draygon could've been killed abusing X-ray. (Might be faster, I'm not sure though.) Other than that I see no way to vastly improve boss battles. I've completed this game with a maximum of 27% items, and I don't know where the rest is, so I wouldn't know about the fastest route. Even though this one was very fast. No one has confirmed the fastest route for Super Metroid, and many people have different theories, even I make new changes every now and then to my Super Metroid 100% routes, Super Metroid has existed for 12 years, and it might take another 12 years to figure out the fastest route. I believe using a route which you feel comfortable with and that makes it possible to show off is the best one to use. (And really, it's not like there's tons of new tricks discovered, at least not that can be utilized in this movie.)

JXQ is using this trick to run faster in his Super Metroid 100% run. Why wasn't it used in this run?

Vote yes, Looks well done and good planed. I have not play it, but looks good for me. Some little moves look improvable for me, but not much. And maybe I wrong, because I don't know these tricks so good as many others here. But looks good and fast.

This video was done in may-june 2005, I believe that around this time Michael Flatley discovered that this was the case. The two currently published movies doesn't use this "trick" either.

Wonderful run, I was thoroughly impressed watching it from beginning to end! Although this movie doesn't use the latest speed-techs it is still very well played (compareable to Teri's any% run) and entertaining to watch. Even if it's probably not the fastest posible route and not 100% optimized in the movements, there will always have to be a 1st version and I think this run is more than great for this conditions. I liked it and vote YES.

Seriously though, the existance of this hack interests me, and I'd like to try playing it myself before I watch a speedrun video, so I'll abstain for now.

Thank you all for speedy comments! And I must say first that Im Japanese and not good at English so that I might misunderstand or even might not understand your messages at all. If so, please tell me or change messages into another descripsion or more easy English. And also forgive me of using poor English and unconscious rude manner.Thank you.

Does it mean that there are need of more improvements and that will make it one of the best movie related to Super Metroid, right? Yes, I believe that. And also I know the lack of many newer techniques. * LR dash * Phantoon quickest kill by using Doppler effect * Draigon quickest kill by using X-Ray on/off technique and mabye more... You seems to know how to kill Spore Spawn in one round. Im cirious about that. I think it is impossible to shoot 10 missiles into Spore Spawn before closing his shell. Please tell me the way.
The thing I noticed most was the fact that many times the player ran off ledges even though he/she could've jumped, but there was also other irregularities in the movie.
ummm, mabye you says the time when Samus fall down from ledges. I don't know the best way.

Thank you for voting. I realize the lack of techniques and it is hard to say this movie is the optimal one. But I don't know the reason why you say it is OBVIOUSLY not the best route. Could you tell me where is the wrong route?

Making a version 2 of this run would probably not be worth the effort if the route isn't drastically changed or more new tricks are discovered, most improvements would come from more accurate playing, more testing and better usage of the "mockball technique". Really, one of the best parts of this movie is the fact that the "Shoulder button pump" isn't used, if a version 2 was to be made, I hope it wont be used in that one either. I guess I should've written that in the last post I wrote. Edit:

I meant this is the best Super Metroid based/related movie I've ever seen.

Jumping off a ledge is always faster, since you're already going down when you reach it.

I downloaded Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc and applied the patch to it, but it won't work no matter what emulator I try it on--it just freezes up right after Samus lands on the Space Colony. Lame! I really want to watch this. Can anyone help?

Super Metroid (J).smc actually exists... I think only Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc and Super Metroid (E) [!].smc do. I may be using the wrong file, but I don't think so.

Mine was called Super Metroid (JU).smc, and I can replay the movie just fine. But there should be a "Super Metroid (J)" from a Japanese cartridge, though it might just be the exact same as the american version, just that the cartridges looks a little bit different.
