• fceu with blip patch (fceu-0.98.12-blip.win)
  • aims for fastest completion
  • tries to avoid enemies instead of killing (style)
  • gets as little food as possible to make the score count faster at end of level
For those who doesnt know, this is the japanese version of Hudson's Adventure Island
There is a high demand by fans of this game to see a run to the end, so i'm submitting my fastest route which is less food as possible and holding B button as much as possible (that means avoid enemies instead of killing them)
Why japanese rom? no reason, that is the actuall cartridge i have and the only visible diference to the american version is the title screen (and game name obviously). and on the japanese rom theres a saying in japanese under the english text of the ending screen. other than that, pretty much the same.
This is a run made from a fan to other fans. It wont be impressive for people who havent tried playing it seriously. But for people who know the game well, its quite an amusing watch. Please have that in mind when voting.
Very especial thanks to AnS for fixing the fcm! now it works perfectly on the good rom, also fixing the end of the movie, awesome :)

Truncated: Seeing as how I was going to reject the previous one and said that I would have accepted it (because of the votes) if it was made for the good ROM, and it also was the oldest submission in the queue, I see no reason to drag out on it this time, I'll set this to Accepted right away.

I am also a fan of this game for some reason so I vote yes. This run will only impress those who have played the game and know how hard it is to keep the skateboard. The food is well planned and FODA was able to hold right pretty much the whole time so the run is good. The fireball pickup while skateboarding is probably the only non-trivial trick. Actually playing through this game on the console is really freakin tough because the slightest touch of an enemy or misjump can kill you. You also lose your weapon on dying and in the last few levels you can only get it back right before a boss, which means making lots of crazy jumps through those stupid spiders. The second-last level where you have to jump from one falling platform to the next while bats fly at you is also very tough.

yes, it's just hex-edited by AnS to sync in the good dump, and it ends the recording earlier at the end.

I almost didn't watch because of the name, but it turns out it's Adventure Island! Awesome, I've always wanted to see someone beat the everloving crap out of this game! I loved hating this game's guts when I was much much younger. I never even got to 8-1 so watching this very well done movie was a balst. Easy yes. Finding the rom took forever, though, my usual site had the game's various roms grouped under H for Hudson's rather than A for Adventure, which I'm so glad I decided to check. GRA.

Great run FODA! this looks like its planned and executed really well. I thought I would be fast-forwarding through a lot of it, but it was entertaining enough that i didn't. I was wondering if getting the eggplant on level 3 slows you down, or did you just do that for fun? Also, I don't know if there are two versions, but this plays for me fine on Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Shima (J) [!].nes Here's a funny screenshot:

Even though it's about to be accepted, I'll throw a yes vote in too. I watched the previous movie and that was worthy to be published as well.

Likewise, even though this is accepted, I saw through the first two levels before something screwballed on the comp. I loved what I saw there, and I can't wait for this thing to be published so I can hopefully watch the whole thing. =D

Whats with the missed shot at 1:33? For luck manipulation? By the way, I never knew this game is exactly the same as Wonderboy for Master System..

it's not exactly the same, there are various differences, including 5 more worlds. adventure island is more like a remake of wonder boy the missed shots are necessary to jump low.

I don't know if I downloaded the right video, but for the first couple of minutes it looked like someone playing worse than my little sister and then, after the first "game over" (in the first stage) it was just the title screen and the demos that are automatically played by the CPU. It was kind of lame to watch, I really hope the link to the fcm file gave the wrong movie. Any info on what might have happenend here?

You have had your first desync. Check and make sure you have the right ROM checksum in the box when you load the movie. If it's not that, it's possible this movie was created on an older version of the emulator, and doesn't sync with newer versions (although I'd bet you have a bad ROM).

The published Adventure Island run plays without desyncs on all versions of FCEU, so it's a ROM issue. As mmbossman said, check the ROM checksum and make sure it's a match.

I think this is long overdue. But especially with the Tier system, and the fact that this movie is in the [http://tasvideos.org/Vault.html]Vault[/url] that its obsoleted status should be revisited. I set a precedent for preferring the original version of a game with this obsoletion. Now I'm setting another precedent. The gameplay here is different enough from the SMS version to warrant its own publication. The threshold for game similarity is relaxed for the [http://tasvideos.org/Moon.html] and negligible for the Vault.
