thanks, i might get the controller if i have enough spare time. The tas input plugin looks a bit ... complicated to use.

If you have a playstation controller, you can buy a PSX to USB for about that price, maybe a little less, I think it was 25$CND for the converter at "La Source by Circuit City". You might be able to find one. I just think it's a good value if you play Guitar Hero (Frets on fire) or DDR (StepMania).

^I don't have a ps1 controller either. If I get a new desktop computer, i might resume working on this, but right now I'm working on chessmaster for snes. I don't know if anyone's interested in that game, but if there is sufficient interest I might create a new topic for it.

Personally my game of choice since I already have this cart for the N64. I was hoping that some day with the latest modification to Mupen64, I could make a "hard-difficulty" Mario Party with some crazy-ass luck manipulation. This is what TAS'ing movies is all about, right? Imagine gathering the whole world for hours upon hours of extreme carnage as the Mario Party crew tear up the game boards to become the greatest superstar in the universe! Of course, some ill-hearted characters are also in the race for the grand title as well. Not sure if Hudson games were designed where it corrupts itself when it's copied in rom file format, but we'll just have to see, but in the meantime, what would you think if I did a short demo run of Mario Party 3 first?

I've tried all of the ones of Mupen (Rice, Jabo) but there are some fuzzy lines and occasional flashes during the game, especially in the Duel map.

Oh god, I had that controller, and it never workd over 3weeks whithout having troubles using it >____> after I thorw'ed it into wall, I buy'd smartjoyplus, and it still works (I buy'd it around 3-4years ago) and none problems at all:)

I'm only two years late on this I think, better late than never I hope. Anyway, I haven't played Mario Party 3 actually, but I've played MP1 and MP2 quite a lot. The concept should be the same, so here's my view of the concept: 1. No idea 2. I'd say use them all. 3. No idea, but is that really the issue for this partical game? As I see it this should be rather a show of a great game than a pure TAS aiming for fastest speed. While some mini-games might be a lot faster than others there shouldn't be an infinite amount of mini-games. Thus showing them all, or as many as possible, would in my opinion be the better option rather than manipulating the fastest over and over. 4. No idea. Probably a combination of stealing/buying. 5. Don't they all have the same abilities? If not, no idea. 6. From my experience from MP1 and MP2 I'd say that the number of step depends. If you want to be able to buy stars fast I guess you should aim for rolling 10. On the other hand from a TAS point of view rolling 1 would take conciderably less time for your character to move, and since the game doesn't end based on how many steps you have taken rolling 1 all the time sounds in theory like the better option. It all depends on the board of course and I guess the aim is to avoid traps and stuff like that. Hence as in point 3 I personally think that a pure TAS that aims for speed would be somewhat strange for this particular game. 7. Probably 8. No idea, maybe in some cases. 9. No idea 10. No idea So, to summarize. I'd love to see this game TAS'ed, but setting up valid goals for a TAS of this particular game could be hard. As seen in point 3 and 6 I think a broader show of the game would be much more entertaining than just getting it over with as fast as possible. Mini-games can still be frame perfect and such of course. But showing only the fastest would get dull. Atleast I think so.

All it does is answer questions. Using save states anyone can do the same exact thing in 20 seconds. There's nothing impressive about it.

I have to agree with rog. That was only 34 seconds long and I couldn't make it through the whole thing. That isn't even running right for justice. That is 4 characters standing still and then Mario jumps straight up 3 times. It says that this was one of two mini-game runs done and was selected as the other one was too boring. If this was selected as the far more interesting of the two I can't even imagine how uninteresting the other mini-game must have been.

There are plenty of interesting mini games to tas in mario party. However, there are also a good amount of them that, like this, are entirely inappropriate for a tas. This wouldn't even be so terrible as part of a full game tas (assuming no other games like this were done), but by itself, all you're doing is answering questions that you know the answer to before the question is even asked.

lol, I think any Mario Party minigame TASes are going to look like that since they're all pretty much the same thing. It's a very simple game to TAS. Maybe there are a few interesting minigames, but that's certainly not one of them

Your first post was "more people should tas this" and you used this video as an example of why this game should be TAS'ed. I was responding to you getting defensive and telling rog that he was wrong for claiming it was a bad game choice. If you believe this run and a less entertaining minigame is a representative of what a run would be than I was saying that it would be a bad game choice. Also I know this is the internet where you can be anonymous and there aren't any rules expressly forbidding it, but you probably should not respond to people like that because it makes people not take you seriously.

More people should TAS the game and I just made a post to try and encourage some more people to TAS the game, and I don't care if one of you reply saying something like "Oh people will see that video and see that the game isn't fun"... or something like that, seriously, get off my back.

I decided that an update to the Story Mode TAS from 2009 was long overdue. While the TAS has amazing board luck, the minigames are where I see most potential for improvement (particularly eliminating minigame repeats). I am open to working on this as a collab.

As part of TASpap, a Goldeneye hoard that just released, I decided to TAS Dizzy Dinghies 17.00 which was brought up by one of our top players Irie, who has the record and - at the time - TAS tie of 17.03 . I was in isolation for covid so it didn't really stand a chance >:) I reversed all the movement code and the collision to make a pyplot which could take an input file and plot the course. I'll clean it and upload it tomorrow sometime because it is good fun, and I only TASed courses 1 & 2, and 2 isn't very strong. I was very impressed at how rich the movement gets, since I originally set out to get a truely optimal time but it gets very complicated very quickly. Sure enough though, keeping the lines tight from the get go I got 17.00 on my first completion. The Mythical course 1 17.00 Course 2 21.90 (2 frames cut iirc) I also discovered a TAS-only trick which I've called Rapid Fire Drifting or RFD after Mariokart wii's Rapid Fire Hop. There is a separate speed cap and sorta "acceleration" value, and by pressing / releasing A on alternate frames you can maintain 98% speed cap while suppressing the acceleration. This lets you go into epic drifts, and is probably genuinely useful in the hairpins on courses 1 & 2. I didn't actually make use of it in any of my TASes, except in a skit for the hoard where Tony Hawk aka Mario does a 900 on course 1 :D Do see my post over on the Goldeneye board.
