• 2*21 for flagpole's trick discovered by klmz.
  • 1 frame because I did an error at 8-4 and I was too lazy to fix it since it was already published when I did notice it.
  • Obtained more points at 8-4, I don't know how I did miss them. :S
Thanks to klmz.

The concept of this run, while slightly novel at first, is pretty hack-ish and lame. The fact that you are taking klmz's discovery and running to paste your name on all the other SMB movies is even lamer.

I have a premonition of the conversation that will ensue here: JXQ: Phil, you blatantly took a trick just discovered to use for your own benefit. Phil: I thought no one owned a game. JXQ: Did you even ask klmz if he had plans on improving this? Phil: No, because we don't aim for pride movies and he doesn't own a glitch. So assuming I should have to ask him for permission goes against the rules. JXQ: It would be common courtesy to the finder of the glitch. Phil: No. Ad nauseam.....

So you want us to wait until klmz decides to run all the other categories, because he found the trick? That's like saying the founder of BLJ (don't know who did) should be the author of all the SM64 runs.

What's funny is that I did talked with klmz and he is already working on a run. JXQ is in his week. Yesterday , he attacks AKA, 2 days ago, it was someone else. Not counting his full negativity towards new runs. Take some vacations Mr. JXQ. You need it :P Edit:

No, it's my fault, I forgot to link it when I did submit it.

Since when did it become site policy for people to have ownership to certain glitches and strategies? ♪ JXQ's Sonic 1 Submission agrees © I'm expecting some ego based reply which has nothing to do with my post ™

hey adelikat, this has 2 no votes and one yes vote, it's not even 12 hours old I bet and you accepted it and are probably in the process of encoding. I smell something incredibly fishy here... something's rotten in the land of TASvideos.

Cf, is there any reason adelikat shouldn't publish an improvement to an existing run?

It beats the existing run, and it's not any less entertaining. I also don't think it really matters who finds a bug vs who puts it to use in a movie, especially when the parties involved have open lines of communication and give credit where it's due. I'll put aside my personal bias on what I feel completion should entail and admit that the movie possesses entertainment value. This run was already accepted before, and it beats the existing record. I'll give it a yes. As a wise man once said, "I don't playa hate, I congratulate. Then I stab you in the neck with a butterknife."
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

This movie has been published. The posts before this message apply to the submission, and posts after this message apply to the published movie. ---- [1023] FDS Super Mario Bros. "-3 stage ending" by Phil in 02:48.12

As long as it's a fun/entertaining run, I am voting YES for it. This run is entertaining and faster than the previously published run. Phil, thanks for another TAS of SMB!

The movie, this time around, was ended as soon as the ax was hit. In the previous movie, the movie was ended later on, to show that this movie does in fact complete the game (or at least make it think it's complete.)

I'm gonna vote 'meh' to this run. The movie looked rushed and avoids doing anything entertaining. Ideally you should try to get a high score, the previous movie did a better job IMO.

I'm also curious why this got published so quickly despite the votes when most items on here seem to take a week+.

My guess is this: It's short and easy to encode and it's a popular game. Also, I don't think the votes really matter on this run, because it's a clear improvement over a movie that was thought to be perfect.

I kind of agree with Guybrush here, I rather have this version than the one before. EDIT: grammar and dots.

This was published quickly because: 1) It takes all of 15 minutes to encode rather than the usual hours/days. This is due to the fact that it is short, very little motion, and a good bit of repeated frames for decimation to take out. 2) It is more of just a "touch up" job on the previous movie. Most of it is just a rehash. This is hardly a hard movie to judge 3) I was encoding another smb movie anyway, so I had the scripts ready to go. The End.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I don't see what the issue is with Phil using the flagpole trick to improve his own run. He gave credit where credit was due. End of story.

This thread just reminds me of the Super Metroid thread for some reasons. If I'd wanted to TAS all SMB1, SMB1 FDS and SMB2j runs, I wouldn't have submitted my SMB1 movie by now. I don't own the glitch, and I did have discussed with Phil. So back to discuss please.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do
