This run beats the current run by Nitsuja by 1799 frames. Lots of memory watching and lots of optimization. A few route changes now and then for some more significant gains. Most of the gain was in the last level. I used Sami's run for most of my comparisons since his run was faster in most areas. I was able to improve on all of his times as well as Nitsuja's times. A big part of the improvement came from finding out that jumping results in faster speed than walking due to oscillating speed value on the ground and static speed in the air. Not to mention that you gain get a higher speed in the air and gain 1-2 subpixels per frame in the air. I have to apologize for the ugly manipulation just before the first boss in level 6, but I couldn't figure out a faster way to get him to move in the way i needed of him.

I think this is a fun game to watch and thus I made this improvement. Hope you enjoy =)

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Gimmick! (J).nes
  • I updated it to Gimmick! (J) [b1].nes

Liked it, and having never watched one of the previous movies, was pretty entertained. I especially liked riding one of the enemies as he landed on a star that killed him.

Very awesome game and very big improvement. Also, I used Gimmick! (J).nes and the checksum matched Deign's .fcm as well as the published movies. I think NVA may be incorrect in indicating it is a ad dump. (And yes vote)

I used both the Gimmick! (J).nes and Gimmick! (J) [b1].nes dump to watch it. It syncs with both, but FCEU identified the [b1] dump as the one it was created with (as it does with Nitsuja's original run). Possibly some sort of goof-up with GoodNES or something, but more likely is that the [b1] is easier to come by, so it got relabeled somewhere on the interwebz and the verified good dump has just become more difficult to find.

You both may have an old GoodNES set. With GoodNES v3.10 it is actually [b1].
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

I always preferred the 100% run of Gimmick, but this is a great run too.

This game completely deserves a sequel/revamp. Nice improvement.

Yeah honestly adelikat, the world will not end if you let this (or any) submission sit in the workbench for more then 5 microseconds. This was well played and I had given it a yes. I'm curious though Deign, I wasn't paying too close attention but could input have been ended earlier?

Yes, end input early and let arbitrary input from the player sabotage the rest of the movie. Input should only be ended if there is no opportunity to pause the game or commit suicide by doing non-neutral input.

Why is there even an option to vote no/meh to submissions like these...

I could turn the game off at any point and stop the ending sequence. Should we keep input going until the AVI is to be stopped? This has been covered a bajillion times on the forums and it's loosely defined in the rules; both types are fine - it's up to the author. Also guys, don't forget how things used to be before adelikat jumped into publishing. It will keep things in perspective.

Such a very weird thing to complain about. Of course it's a good thing movies are published swiftly when it's obvious no one is going to object to it being accepted. I just can't think of any reasonable counter arguments.

I mean, it's great and all that he published this one quickly, being it's a great run and all. But there's ones that have been sitting in the accepted queue for a month and haven't been published, and this didn't even take 2 days from submission to publication. Just saying...

It is indeed shame that some movies sit longer than others. I'll be happy to publish some encodes. You can PM a link or DCC on IRC. Thanks.

I've said it before; perhaps instead of "favoritism first", runs should sit in the queue for a minimum of a week and a maximum of two weeks (for runs not getting enough attention in the queue), instead of "Ooh ooh this is an awesome run let's publish it before most people even have a chance to view the submission" At least this would bring a little bit of a standardized practice into things... ... And yes, I'm well aware that before, runs used to sit in the queue for months on end. The problem still exists; just now, it's the opposite extreme.

Its safe to say that its better have a run published within a couple of hours rather than a couple of years.

Wow, this game is pretty crazy to watch, it's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain! It seems like the type of game that is fun to watch someone play it, but playing it yourself would be a disaster Awesome run Deign, I really liked your use of star transportation, and the overall pace of the run! A big yes vote, and I believe that this sort of run is star quality. I mean, stars are everywhere in this game too!

I agree with Xkeeper. There is too much "publish these cool runs too fast, and leave the rest to rot in the dust" pedagogue. Xkeeper's solution is perfect.

Why is it better, considering no run has been published after staying in the WB for years? In fact, disregarding that, why is it better to have it published too fast in the first place? Also, do remember that the "early years" was a small number of TASers, with a small number of judges, and the goal of the workbench was to increase the content of the site. I don't think actual competition or even raised quality standards were introduced until 2005 (slight exaggeration, but the point still remains.)
