The Immortal improved by about 1,5 minutes (5489 frames).
Thanks to Tool23 for the previous movie!

Some Explanations

This is the fastest possible route with my current knowledge. The movie utilizes some new tricks like using the amulet to bypass enemies and dying to respawn in desirable locations.
This game has very strange screen scrolling and inventory menu behavior. They seem to follow no logic. Seemingly random lag is also part of the mechanics of the game. Everyone who tries to record something precise with this game will learn that nothing seems to make sense in a frame-by-frame level. In other words, this game is improvable until somebody understands how everything really works. (Well, maybe that's the usual case anyway?)

Walkthrough

I made a list of all the important events. This list is meant to help people who want to improve the movie, so it does not explain all the details in the plot of the game. If some of these events can be skipped to save time, I would definitely enjoy seeing it.

Level 1

  1. Take Dunric's ring
  2. Take the scroll of fireballs
  3. Kill the goblin with a fireball
  4. Talk to the man to get a key
  5. Take the bag of bait
  6. Take the spores
  7. Take the water bottle
  8. Use the bag of bait to summon the worm, die and respawn in another room
  9. Take the scroll of charm
  10. Take the amulet
  11. Die in a pit to respawn in another room
  12. Use the amulet to open the exit

Level 2

  1. Take gem-1
  2. Use the charm spell on the wisps
  3. Take the stone
  4. Use the charm spell to make the wisps attack the goblins
  5. Take the bag of dust
  6. Use the spores
  7. Give water to the goblin king and get the key
  8. Use the bag of bait to summon the worm, die and respawn in the other end of the room
  9. Use the dust on the dwarf to get gem-2
  10. Use the stone and let the slime melt it to reveal gem-3
  11. Use the three gems to open the exit

Level 3

  1. Take the scroll of fireballs
  2. Kill the troll with a fireball
  3. Take the gem
  4. Use the amulet to bypass the enemy
  5. Kill the troll with a fireball
  6. Use the gem to activate the teleport, then exit

Level 4

  1. Talk to the man to get the magic carpet
  2. Use the magic carpet to fly through the rooms, then exit

Level 5

  1. Take the egg
  2. Buy the shrink potion and use it
  3. Die to respawn full-sized
  4. Take the scroll of fireballs
  5. Use a fireball to kill the bird and get the key
  6. Use the bag of bait to open the exit

Level 6

  1. Use the amulet to bypass the giant spider
  2. Take the bottle of alcohol and use it on the chest
  3. Take the scroll of leviation
  4. Levitate through the spider-infested tunnel, then exit

Level 7

  1. Give Dunric his ring to get a few spells
  2. Kill the traitor
  3. Lure the water monster to the whirpool

Level 8

  1. Take some more spells from the chest
  2. Use the spells to end the game

Movie Attributes

This movie does not manipulate luck. The previous movie has a false luck-manipulation tag. Also, the genre is not strategy.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game (although it is hard to tell if the amulet trick is a "programming error"...)
  • Uses death to save time
  • Genre: Action
  • Genre: Adventure
Enjoy the improvement!

Truncated: Good show. Accepting.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. I'm not sure I got the right ROM though. (I tried Immortal, The (UE) [!].gen, which was the closest match to what you wrote.) Well, here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

Holy crap, death abuse in The Immortal... downloading right now. Wow. Excellent finding with the amulet there. All around great to watch, and a hefty improvement. That's certainly a yes from me.

Heh, nice tricks. Apparently, that "instantly kill you if you hold it up to light and read the runes on it" amulet is also a "make you briefly intangible" amulet! And in a game where you can and will die all the time, it's surprising to see someone use death to their advantage! All in all, a solid improvement. Yes vote.

Incredible movie! I liked the original, and you destroyed it! It's a shame you only fought once, and it never showcased the killing blows you can do, but it's more then worthy to replace the current one. I think it should be mentioned somewhere that it does skip out on a lot of the cool "gore" factor though. ;) If you like the movie, you should try the game to not only see how hard it is, but see how gruesome it can be. :) Easy yes vote.

We need a "good ending" run of this now! Maybe a "glitch/gore" run in the vein of MKII, as well.

It would just make the movie a bit longer without adding new kind of content to it, I think.

For a convoluted adventure game I've never played before, this was surprisingly entertaining to watch. I also agree that alternate runs of this would be cool.

Woah, time to dust off the old Gens! Nice improvement! Very creative in the death abuse and amulet use. I think you also used the magic carpet once more than I did? One thing I noticed was that it seems like you went straight through the long spider web corridor without moving from side to side. Does it just look like that or were you actually moving up and down? Like Aqfaq says this game is a pain to optimize-- when I was making my run it kept desynching on me. Just when I thought it was frame perfect, I would have to go back and add a frame so it wouldnt desynch. I'm suprised this video played w/o desynching for me. And the slimes, goblins and whatever else are really hard to manipulate. Yes vote, bonus points for the file name

Yes. That was the fastest way I managed to skip the fight with the troll.

I move down at some point, but only a pixel or two, so it is practically unnoticeable and looks like I go straight through the dangerous webs. :)

I captured this to avi but it ended with a "Game over" screen. Is this supposed to happen? or did I desync?

If it happened after the main character was rescued by a goblin on a rope, the video is fine. It still says 'Game Over' when you win.

Ok, thanks. Also, those programmers are mean bastards. At least put a "congratulations" or something. I mean, the player had to suffer from eye damaging low + random fps, and ear piercing sound FX. The least they could do is give a little somethin.

The screenshot for this publication is from the old movie and NVA has failed to offer more than a black screen, so maybe one of these could be used: (Sorry, I can't change the screenshots of publications myself.)
