Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde completed as fast as possible.
Recorded with FCEU 0.98.15-rerecording, using default settings.
Aims for fastest time. I only take damage once, in a place where it seems to be inevitable.
You control Dr Jekyll, and your mission is to get to the church to your wedding (or something like that). If pranksters, animals and bugs annoy you enough (by causing damage), you get angry and convert into Mr Hyde. If that happens, you are basically transported to a nightmare world and you have to kill monsters as fast as possible to return back. Naturally I never convert into Mr Hyde because it would slow down.
Taking damage is not an option. Any time you take damage, you are thrown several meters towards the left of the screen (regardless of which way you were facing). Thus taking damage not only cannot be used as a shortcut, it would be a big slowdown. Thus I avoid taking damage at all costs. There's only one place were I take damage in the last level. Seemingly this is inevitable (or at least I couldn't find any way to avoid it, no matter what I tried). I take the minimum amount of damage possible in that situation.
If I seemingly jump or momentarily stop for no apparent reason, it's to manipulate enemies (which is not always an easy task).
In the last level the bombs cannot be bypassed in the same way as in earlier levels. They explode way faster.
May I add that I hate this game? Especially the last level is a real nightmare to run (and you can see that in this TAS).

Bisqwit: Half of the audience seems to think that this is a bad game choice for TASing, or at least hesitate whether this should be published. The other half points out that you played well regardless. Good job, but failure on the entertainment. As entertainment is one of the proverbial cornerstones of this site, I'm going to have to reject this submission. Good luck on your next submission, though! :)

GOOD POINTS
  • Unique game
  • This is famous on YouTube
  • There is a element on dodging stuff which other generic platformers don't have
BAD POINTS
  • Horribly slow to watch even at 300-400% speed
  • Hold right FTW
  • Levels are too long in relation to the game and mechanics
  • Doesn't choose the good ending which while a liittle slower it would have made the movie more interesting to watch as a whole
  • Not that it would make any difference (hint hint)
  • Seems a little bit unoptimized for my liking
  • Dreadful repetitive and dreary music
  • Hard to spot projectiles on the screen due to the conflicting nature of the colours on the screen
After a short long snap careful decision I decided it would be best to vote no. I nominate this screenshot BTW

You did a good job tasing A COMPLETELY EVIL GAME.... There was luck manipulation, nice frame calculation, and well, all of that; i really thought that this would make me say "ok, lets vote yes, or meh" sadly, the game is only worth watching due to how bad the game is itself. I mean... you try your best to make it look cool. But sorry, its long, boring and the game itself its bad. No vote, even tought the hard work you placed in the game desserves a yes vote, but the question is clear "did you enjoyed..".

I was really, really hoping to vote yes on this, especially since we have a thread bitching that there are no new games. However, this game was horrid. The music repetition drove me insane... and there is no boss. You walk right through countless retarded enemies (which in and of itself is an achievement) and then the game says End. It was sorta painful... to sit through. I promised myself I wouldn't fast forward. That lasted 5 minutes. Seriously, did someone actually play this game and go "This is an accurate representation of a classic piece of English Literature and is fun to play?" My guess is no. Not voting. I can't vote no in good faith.

I understand "concept demo section" does not mean "trash heap", but I feel this movie deserves to be presented to the public in some way, just for the sheer novelty of the thing. Otherwise, I think this needs to get eaten by the Grue, in spite of how well played it is.

Poor Dr Jekyll, everything it seems is out to get him. Atleast we know Donkey Kong was back in the 1800's(?) in the last level. Was it me or did the last level speed up then suddenly slow to a crawl? Either way after the first two levels it just gets boring and dull.

Top 5 reasons why this movie should be published: 1) It's a game reviewed by the Angry Nintendo Nerd. That has to count for something. 2) I'm such a nice guy. 3) My list of published TASes is way too short I need more. 4) I spent several hours making this movie. 5) Please? ;)

It's curious how making a TAS makes you appreciate your own movie more than simply watching someone else's. After painfully completing the game as optimally as possible, reloading savestates again and again, struggling to get difficult parts passed as fast as possible, getting exasperated because it's so damn difficult, once you have finished it's a delight to see the movie from beginning to end, how it seems to play with such an ease and pass all obstacles like they weren't there. Of course it's completely different from an outsider's point of view. It's just boring.

Ironically, I got half way through the second level of this game, thinking a tas would be amusing. But I gave up deciding that making the run would ruin my sanity. And the singers were a mystery to me. Looking foreward to watching this....

.... WOW. This game is so... The whole thing was so... I mean, too many sprites actually made the game go faster? It was so insane. I really don't know what to say, the enemies were so hilarious. This is like the first TAS I've seen where it still seems like the player is having trouble with the game. And the way you were hit, I don't even get how that happened. I'm voting yes. I mean, a guy trying to attack you with falling dead birds, and those cats that go crazy all the time... I enjoyed it.

Yeah, this game is insanely hard. I can't understand how anyone could finish this game playing normally. Even doing so tool-assisted was a real challenge. Especially the last level is simply insane.

That game is a horrible waste of perfectly good pixel graphics. And decibels. I would tolerate 4..8 minutes of this at maximum, but 18 minutes is too much. Sorry, but I'm voting "no". It would make a good screensaver though. EDIT: Also, although it may be pointless, some things I thought that might improve the movie... - The game seems to run faster when there are more objects on the screen. Perhaps you could abuse this to make the run faster by manipulating more enemies to the screen? - at 15:28 and 17:04, there are three-step stairs, where you jump forward, and get repelled by the wall. It seems to cost you some very noticeable frames. Did you try if it can be done more optimally, avoiding the repelling effect, perhaps jumping from further back?

Too bad there's a 10-minute limit. If there wasn't, maybe I could post it there.

Yes, for the sole reason you managed to beat this game. (Though getting the "good" ending would have been interesting)

This game contains nude statues. I don't know if I should vote no or meh. EDIT: "Our users have posted a total of 160000 articles" Seems like I got post 160 000 :)

That is quite possibly the most terrible hunk of shit I have ever seen. Yes vote. It was funny at least.

A little slower? If I'm not mistaken, getting the "good ending" requires you to reach the chapel as Mr Hyde, which effectively means playing the game through twice, once as Dr Jekyll and once as Mr Hyde. Basically they both play the same levels, and you can never pass Dr Jekyll as Mr Hyde, except in the last level (which means you have to reach the last level as Dr Jekyll, then convert to Mr Hyde and play all the levels as him, until you reach the chapel). Only in the last levels you are able to pass Dr Jekyll, reach the chapel, fight the "boss battle" (I read somewhere that the last "boss" takes something like 30 seconds to explode when it's defeated), and then you convert back to Dr Jekyll where you left him off, and have to reach the chapel with him, ie. play the last level with him (although this time there are no enemies). I have no idea how much this all would take, but my guess is that closer to 40 minutes. No thanks?-)

Perhaps the unavoidable damage is related to the somewhat glitched saboteur[what I think of the bomb-dropping guys as] whose legs bounce away reminiscent of a barrel also on screen(frame 61000 or so, of avi) and the bomb he [should] drop that plays its "about-to-explode" sound up until the next one comes (around 62500) and actually drops not one but two bombs, somehow damaging you unlike apparently all other of his ilk?

No vote, based entirely on game choice. From what I could tell, though, you TAS'd it well, and it did make me laugh. This game induces physical agony to watch. Turning off the music or watching at 200% speed relieves the pain somewhat, but really only takes the edge off. And why is this guy being attacked by so many dogs, cats, birds and rats?! My wife's comment sums it up: "Can't he at least run or something?"
