Did you know that Super Mario Bros can be completed without pressing the B button while holding an apple on one's head the entire time? Just kidding; that is not possible. But this is an improvement to the famous Super Mario Bros walkathon.
It improves the previous publication by 7.4 seconds -- none of it thanks to recent glitch findings! 21-frame rule be damned.

Improvements level by level

8-2

This level was not improved by a single frame. None. Zilch.

Comments from the actors

Mario

Mamma mia! Someone should do something about the cannons in 8-3. They're dangerous!
Oh no, this was not what I expected when they promised to redo the movie. This time I was hunted by two Bullet Bills the entire duration of the 8-2 stage! I could barely look behind, and there they would always be looming! The cake Princess promised me better be good!

Koopa

Hammers are fun. I wish the next movie has a room made entirely of hammers. Bwahaha! Let's see how that idiot jumps past them then!!
*Makes a mental note to write a complaint to the industrial safety delegate. That lava prop juice is way too sticky.*

Luigi

I wasn't there!

Goombas 7 & 8

Did you spot us? We were in the beginning of 1-2! This is the first movie in which we were not stomped on by the hero! We made it!
Goomba 7: I think it was scary. Mario jumped straight above us and smashed a coin block. You have no idea how much noise those things make! I mean, you're watching us from, what, 50 meters? 100? I bet you heard it loud and clear even from that distance! And then there are Mario's feet. Huge feet that have seen millions of smashed goombas. And they make noise too! You'd imagine the smell would be the worst thing, but no, it is the noise. Good thing they're paying us a lot!

Princess

I hope they would write a love scene for Mario and me in the next movie. I mean, it must be quite astonishing sight for the audience to see Mario come rescue me after passing the obstacles elected by the friends of Koopa Bowser, but as an actress, my tasks for the role of the heroine are quite small. I wish I had more to do. I'm sure Mario would love it too.

EDITED: Replaced movie with a newer one! Improved by 202 frames! Plenty of thanks to AndrewG, the master of Super Mario Bros. speedrunning!
EDITED: Replaced movie with a newer one! Improved by 50 frames more! Plenty of thanks to Quietust, who made me feel fool! How fitting considering the day.%% EDITED: Replaced movie with a newer one! Improved by 20 frames more! Plenty of thanks to Bisqwit, who had doubts about some part of the movie.

adelikat: Accepting for publication as an improvement to the published movie.
Bisqwit: Reverting to 20 frames slower, but a lot cooler, version 4 and processing for publication.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

No, AKA, I'm telling you that you suck for making this ridiculous and uncalled for argument. If "you'd rather see" a unique submission, don't watch it, go see a unique submission — a lot of them today. But starting a dumb argument suggesting this movie shouldn't be published because you don't need it? Dude, what the hell. Seriously.

1. At what point did I say 'this movie shouldn't be be published' 2. It is you whose making the ridiculous and uncalled argument 3. So I can only watch if I'll definitley pour praise over the submission? 4. You've misinterpreted what I've said to the point of making it sound like your own fantasy.

Sorry gentlemen. I tl;dr. Can someone summarize what is this debate about? The last few posts have only been ad hominems, and those do not really belong here.

I was wondering if there would be another version of this run for April Fool's Day. I'm surprised to see it improved so much. This run ought to be published because it shows off something amazing. Most people would be call you a liar if you said that you could beat SMB1 without pressing B. In fact, they'd likely be right. Doing incredible -- if not impossible -- things is kind of the point of TASing. Was it entertaining? Darn right it was! As for the debate, it looks like someone suggested that the criteria "completes game without pressing B" is as valid a criteria as "doesn't use warps" or "doesn't collect items" (that specific example wasn't given, but that's the gist of what he was trying to say), and other people seem to be arguing that point for the sake or arguing. I mean, really, who cares if he was serious or not? Does it affect anyone other than him? He's welcome to his opinion, and if you disagree, the most that needs to be said (if anything at all) is "I disagree". It's not worth being offended about. It seems to be an excuse to argue for the sake or arguing. If you really need conflict to keep your day interesting, maybe take it out on a video game and start a TAS, or take up boxing or something.

It obsoletes a previously published movie. If you want to argue with that publication, go back in time 1 year with your time machine. If you do, tell me not to bet everything I own on black! LULZ!

You'd have to go back an additional 2 years to actually get to when the current run was published.

This run... errr.. play changes the meaning of TAS. Can this still be called TAS ? Or should it be called TAP (tool assisited play) ?
Late reply from me, I think it's Tool-Assisted Superplay (see forum logo), I'm not sure where everyone getting "Tool-Assisted Speedrun" from tho.

I think all of the suggested screenshots in the fourth row are actually pretty good.

The wording "tool-assisted superplay movies" (as in the logo) originated before the acronym "TAS" was invented. "TAS" was invented as an acronym for "tool-assisted speedrun". "TAS" does not (nor did it ever) stand for "tool-assisted superplay".

Tasvideos never ceases to amaze me. I vote no because I am a fun-hating bastard whose name is shared by a similar bastard in TMNT4. Blah blah blah.

Actually, the term TAS existed before Nesvideos was born. Nesvideos started off with the title <Console game system "superplay" movies>. Using the word tool-assisted came later.

This is a pretty decent screenshot, but I think the most appropriate screenshot would be one of Mario walljumping during one of the really huge jumps in 8-1.

I find this a solid improvement to the published movie. Not my favorite movie concept, but it makes me chuckle. I give it a yes vote. I think this officially makes this movie up for competition though. (Possibly even on a day other than 4/1 ;P)

I'm doubting whether this particular version should be published. Even though the latest submission improved the earlier revision by 20 frames, I liked the earlier revision a lot more, due to the fact that it walked two screenfuls beneath the floor, which this "improvement" does not do. I don't personally care about the speed; I care about the visual performance. Does anyone agree with me? I'd like to revert to version 4, i.e. http://tracker.tasvideos.org/supermariobros-walkathonv4-bisqwit.avi.torrent The faster but more bleh one being http://tracker.tasvideos.org/supermariobros-walkathonv5-bisqwit.avi.torrent . The difference is in the 4-2 stage.

I haven't seen, nor was aware of the 20 frames slower version. I'll check it out when I get a chance.
