Deja Vu TAS by Randil

This run improves the published run by 806 frames (13.43 sec) mostly by not picking up the SNAPSHOT and not examining LETTER1.
  • Emulator used: FCEU 0.98.26
  • Aims for fastest possible time.
  • Manipulates luck.
  • Genre: Storybook.
I found that it's not necessary to either take or examine SNAPSHOT in order to beat the game. Because I don't pick this item up, I don't have to discard it in the sewers later on. All this saved ~10 seconds.
It's not necessary to examine LETTER1, which saved about 3 seconds. LETTER1 is evidence against Sternwood and Vickers, just as MEMO and DIARY, and because I don't examine those two items, I figured that I might not need to examine LETTER1 either, which was the case. :)
Then there were the usual frame improvements here and there. I saved a few frames by having less items in my inventory (it takes shorter time to load), and there were a few optimized cursor movements.
All in all, most of this run looks identical to the published run, but Deja Vu fans will probably spot the differences. :)
More detailed comments might come later...
Enjoy the run!

So you stiffed the cab driver, when you had the coins to actually pay him.

Haha, you dispose of items in the sewer... And ... clear your name? Your name wasn't very clear if you had to throw stuff in the sewer!
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

Yep, it's a few frames faster to stiff him than to pay him the coins. This can only be done the last time you take the cab to Peoria though. And I guess our hero Ace isn't as innocent as you'd first think - stiffing the cab driver, hitting a butler unconsious, using savestates to win the jackpot on the slot machines, etc... perhaps he deserves some jail time. :) About throwing stuff in the sewers, I realize that it's a little bit suspicious, but the fact is that these items have been planted in order to frame you for a murder you didn't commit, so it's all in your right to get rid of all these items.

O.O DAYUM! I never though to ignore either snapshot or letter.... and what an improvement! My own speedrun's gonna have to be tweaked now as well as my guide... that's just incredible! I feel like a moron to not have thought about either of those. :( Now to figure out how to calculate how many torch units are used per action in Shadowgate and I will be good to try and improve my own speedrun of it.
