What does a moon mean? I can't find anywhere obvious on the main site which explains moons, nor a list of all movies with a moon.

A moon means an outstanding publication (where the movie was well received by the community).

That's perfectly reasonable, actually. If I see a moon on the front page, I will be extra certain to watch the movie, but it doesn't necessarily need to be a permanent thing. If you want to call attention, why not have more collections?

Perhaps the stars and moons could be officially explained somewhere?

We do have http://tasvideos.org/Stars.html - which is probably very underused. 'Notable publication' status (i.e. moons) are explained in the publisher guidelines. In other words, we do have official explanations, but they're probably nearly impossible to find for the average viewer right now.

This brings up the question of what the stars are really depicting and aiming for (which, of course, can be quite heavily a matter of opinion). My own understanding has been that the stars are mainly a guideline for first-time viewers: They depict good exemplars of runs which a new visitor can select from the many hundreds of published runs in order to get a good sample of what TASing is all about and why it's so cool. Hence not all starred runs are the very best runs in all possible categories, nor are all the very best runs starred. Some of the best runs may require more knowledge and experience about TASes and TASing in order to be fully appreciated, and might thus not be the most suitable for first-time viewers. Starred runs are more like "the fast food of TASing" (but not in a negative sense): They are cool to watch and easy to understand and get amazed by, and don't necessarily require a deep knowledge of TASing techniques (in general, or of that game in particular). While stars and top ratings often coincide, it doesn't always need to (and in some cases even shouldn't) be so. Just my view.

I agree with Warp. We need to keep in mind someone who doesn't know anything about TASing or the game, and ask whether they would be impressed or entertained.

Tetris fast 999999 I think this is now a very good star worthy movie. In addition to being more optimized it increases the "wow" factor tremendously with use of non-long piece tetrises. In addition I think it makes it a lot more accessible to the general public because that is a trick that anyone who's played tetris can at least appreciate. It is the type of movie that could potentially appeal to someone who wouldn't have otherwise gotten into the idea of TASes that much.

I agree, stuffing this movie with a moon is sort of an understatement.

Should Tetris fast 999999 take the Arkanoid star (puzzle star), or should they coexist? I was also considering giving a star to the new OoT movie once it got published, any thoughts on this?

Tetris should take Arkanoid's star. We dont want it to overflow. Also, OoT was awesome, but I dont think it deserves a star.

I think Tetris should take the star, it's more of a "known" game and it uses a new glitch to the Tetris community too. I also think that OoT should have a star, but what would it replace?

OoT is one of those runs that new viewers will tend to seek out automatically. It doesn't need a star, much like the SMB1 run doesn't need a star. If you like the game, you'll watch the TAS; if you don't, no harm done.

I agree with Derakon, to an extent. OOT doesn't need a star. If someone likes Zelda, he'll watch the run, and he will find it extemely entertaining without being asked to do so. But if someone doesn't like Zelda, that run will be boring no matter what you do, I am sorry. It's not one of those movies you would exactly recommend to a newcomer. It is a movie for a niche, even though said niche seems to be quite large for no apparent reason. But it's not a movie which should be used to showcase what a TAS is meant to be. The 0-stars run of SM64 on the other hand is a very good example. Even if someone never played the game he will find weird that Mario can get through closed doors, it will be obvious to the random guy that there is something wrong going on, even if they don't know you're supposed to collect 70 stars to beat the game. I agree with Tetris, because of its "wtf" factor. And even if I'm extremely late to the party, I agree with the star given to that ISS movie by marcokarty I linked that video to someone who doesn't know what a TAS is, and he couldn't stop laughing. Now he know what a TAS is. But if I link OOT to someone who doesn't know what a TAS is? He will close the video after 5 minutes at most. Just my 2¢

I don't think OoT needs a star either, nor do I feel that way for any Zelda games. Zelda games are far more entertaining to those who know the game than those who don't and stars should movies that are awesome to the general audience whether they have played the game or not.

Arkanoid is one of those games where tool-assistance is very easy to see and appreciate even for a non-gamer. Also arkanoid is a pretty well-known game type (even if not as much as tetris). I think it should retain its star, unless there are very good reasons why it should lose it. If increasing the total amount of starred movies by one is completely out of question, I unfortunately don't have a good suggestion on which one of the existing starred movies should lose it...

I think increasing the star list by 1 is ok in this situation. The number of publications has risen, and stars are supposed to represent 3-5% of the total publications.

Also by adding Tetris, instead of replacing it, we'll increase the amount of Puzzle games we recommend. The action/platform genre is represented well, let's get some others in there as well.

I 3rd the nomination of TMNT 4-player. (And wow, we've had a lot of star quality movies lately). We need an Arcade Star, and this is the first movie to deserve one. It is a definitive game for the platform, and has a large "wow" factor being 4 players. We also need a 4-player imo as that is something that is obviously really impressive to first time viewers (and vets like me!). So this movie counts as 2 star slots, that's a no brainer.

I agree with what is said above. Although I also think that if Turtles in Time 4 players is made, and turns outs to be at least just as impressive as this one, that should take its place.
