This is a 1 minute 4.3 second (3866 frame) improvement over the currently published movie.
This movie utilizes a number of new tricks:
  • Quickly hoping up a ladder/wall is faster than climbing up it
  • In some cases you can make rapid jumps through a small corridor rather than crawling through it (walking/jumping is faster than crawling)
  • Using speed boosting by taking damage off of enemies.
TODO: Level by Level analysis.

Categories:

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death as a shortcut
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Emulator: GENS10a
Enjoy!
adelikat: Replaced submission file with a non-glitched "proper" ending. It is also 4 frames faster, woot.

mmbossman Nothing like a good improvement. Accepting.

adelikat: Processing.

HAHAHAHA Submission completes game, and skips those stupid credits. Who gives a f&*$#@@ about stupid programmers? 10 for entertainment, .5 for technical. I'd go to 11, but this scale only goes to 10.

:) The movie is super hilarious, especially during the first two levels! Good job again, adelikat! One problem is that the movie does not complete the game, it just halts. It should be fixed.

I could easily finish the boss without dying at the same time. But some others said it should be like this. I'd appreciate more feedback from others.

Oh, I thought it was obvious that it should be fixed. Well, maybe not. :) Here's more feedback to consider: - The game halts before the "stage clear" message. The final level is not completed. - If the halt state is the same as completing the game, then why not halt in the first boss? - The ending introduces a halting glitch, which has uninteresting and meaningless content: the game standing still. The ending credits have interesting and meaningful content, even though some people might disagree with that. - Imagine the same thing happening in SMB: Bowser falls into the lava and then the game halts, Mario standing still. No princess is saved, no ending fanfare is heard and the game does not return to the title screen. In Super Metroid, the equivalent situation would be the game halting when Samus enters his escape ship. - There are no audiovisual signs of any kind that would indicate game completion. - Defeating the final boss is not the same thing as completing a game.

I didn't like the ending either. It seemed like a desync rather than a glitch. :/ On the other hand, if I had been watching the published AVI, it probably would have been funny. The guy dies, and then the movie just cuts out. I liked the improvements, anyway. 7.8|WTF

All valid points. I am convinced, I'll redo and update the submission.

I think I'm the only person who actually likes this game. :(

Sorry, I disapprove of the way the game ends. I would prefer to see the actual credits. I'll abstain from rating the submission atm.

Ok, I replaced the submission file. The new one makes it to the ending credits. I also managed to save 4 frames in the process.

Shouldn't you cancel this and re-submit? I'm pretty sure that would help out your below average technical score, since the only reason that seemed to suffer was because of the ending.

People are allowed to change their rating. I'd don't feel the need to resubmit just to try to boost my ratings.

It's not like this is a ratings game... unlike the "news" shows that are on TV. Seriously, fuck anything but The News Hour on PBS.

I was actually the one dragging the technical score down.

Assuming a run gets published and the viewer in question has never played the game, I'm pretty certain that person would consider the rating given to it in deciding whether they feel like watching it or not.

Nice find on the climbing trick. Also, very nice finding a way past that stupid falling tree in the forest level.

This game is very surreal. While I'm not sure whether or not I'd like it, it did make for a very interesting movie.

This is a weird game! The run is really, really solid. A lot of nice glitches and smart playing. Good work!

Now that I've watched this, I have to say this was by far my favorite publication for all of 2008.

This game is really weird. The main character is really stiff and moves like a badly programmed robot with hemmeroids. Anyway, nice job I suppose.

So I found a new trick with a guy in my stream called sbagok. It turns out you can skip the key in the first stage if you kill yourself and boost through the door. I don't know exactly how much time this trick saves, but I'd say at least 5 seconds. There's probably other timesavers too, but they're yet to be discovered. :)
