This is a sequel to Out of This World starring an alien. Some scenes have graphic violence, so the TAS is not suitable for anyone.
You need Sega CD BIOS 1.10 (USA) to run the file correctly. If you have any desync issues, try another version of the game. If the problem remains, give us the details of the occurrence, so that a highly skilled team of TAS synchronization squids can be sent to your aid.
Note: There exists a version of the game with badly synchronized music files. It makes the ending cutscene sound bad.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Gens11a
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses a programming error in the game

Comments

If something looks strange, it's probably for adjusting the position for better screen transition. Many times, the only thing that matters is how fast the individual screen is exited, because the character position is often fixed after a screen transition. It is not trivial to optimize, though, so I would be glad to see this improved in the future.
Soon after planting the bomb, I use extra screen transitions to advance the bomb timer faster. It may look stupid, but saves 9 frames of waiting time.
Two cutscenes are skipped in the run. Some people might prefer a version that includes the cutscenes, but one of them can be watched in the beginning of the game with no effort and it takes almost as long as the TAS itself, so I thought it was better this way.
Sorry for the lack of motivation to write a better submission message. Please ask for more explanations, if you need any.
Thanks to White Label, nitsuja, klmz, upthorn and nfq for useful comments.

mmbossman: What a goofy, and somewhat chilling, movie. I'd expect nothing less from you, Aqfaq :) Accepting for publication.

Ooh! I can't wait for an encode of this one! Perhaps one day you can make a TAS of Flashback too!

I can host 1 hour long videos. Btw, if you need long videos uploaded, ask me. But let's not discuss this here :) I'm eagerly waiting to see this TAS.

I'd watch this, but I'm too lazy to bother with any of this CD junk. Where are the encoder gnomes when you really need them? ;_;

I just dumped the raw vid. Had some weird issues with sound in a couple spots that makes me think I need to rerip my disc. Anyway, standby. Encoding to x264 and upping to youtube for your viewing enjoyment.

This took way longer than I planned. Apparently youtube doesn't like any lossless codec what-so-ever. Anyway... Aqfaq's Sega CD Heart of the Alien in 05:19.03 TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-p5f_dQWzM

Thanks for the encode, enjoyed this a lot. Yes please.

Quite entertaining. I just wish I knew what was going on. The only real problem with this run is that it doesn't complete Out of this World as well.

It's a separate game. Really. If you played both of them you'd totally understand.

Out of the World is already completed for the SNES: http://tasvideos.org/296M.html Heart of the Alien was only released for Sega CD.

I watched the encode. As entertaining as I expected. Yes vote.

I said it before and i'll say it again. Wow, this game is broken. I'm very curious to know how much further the broken-ness goes. It's painfully obvious on first playthough how clunky, unpolished, and rushed this game is if you are familiar with the first OOTW. For those who haven't really played this game before you don't realize how unforgiving this clunky game is. Seemingly little things like jumping over all of the bats in the first level is really an amazing thing. Shooting enemies before putting your own shield up is nearly impossible to do in real time. Amazing. Also, we need more Sega CD runs!

Nice glitches.

Oh, at last there's an easy-to-follow movie at Workbench! (well, maybe that's because I actually played the game, although didn't like it as much as first Another World) Quite enjoyable run. Voting Yes.

I liked the game, but that ending is lame and frustrating.

Nice to see this accepted and processed. I can't help with encoding, but at least I can point out that this YouTube encode has good timing with the music files. It's not perfect, though, because the last tune ends about 1 second too early, so the next file (death music) starts playing, which sounds strange. It's nothing critical, anyway. I think here is an example of the correct(?) timing.

Yeah, that's my encode that I'm aware has weird timing issues. I reripped my disc which now has the correct timing.
