Let me just get this out of the way... The emulator's name sounds like a headache prescription that includes "May cause high blood pressure" in the list of symptoms. There. That's out of the way.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Ah, that seemed to come out of nowhere. At first I thought all the extra forums were a late April Fool's joke.

I downloaded mednafen.exe from the google code page and tried it. It didn't work. I made all sorts of command-line arguments to try to run adelikat's PCE submission, and the only thing it ever says is "The system cannot execute the specified program." I am using Windows XP. Edit: With Windows Vista, I got a bit further, but haven't tested much yet.

To me it sounds like a name of a Swedish―German language lesson book.

It really didn't come out of nowhere though. It was just that no one was paying attention to the emulator development!

I tested recording something with Splatterhouse and everything worked fine mostly, but some annoyances were encountered: Is it necessary to make an auto-backup every time a savestate is loaded? I don't really need all these 900 .bak files... Is it possible to resize the frame counter font? In full screen mode, the frame counter is rather tiny. Mednafen crashed once upon loading a savestate, reporting "SDL failure". Sorry for the lack of details about the crash. Also,

Is there something listed twice?

FractalFusions issue has been resolved. Anyone with that issue just needs to redownload. As for the backups, no they aren't necessary but they are probably a good idea for now. I wouldn't trust Mednafen too much with keeping a good copy of your movie. I think we weeded out most of the major bugs with my Dragon Egg TAS, but I can't be sure. Dealing with 1000 backups is better than losing your TAS. I've never had the crash issue relating to your savestate problem. That's concerning but I have no idea what might be happening there. EDIT: For the frame counter issue, try -pce.xres 640 -pce.yres 480, or whatever size you prefer.

I appreciate all the hard work adelikat and company have put into this emulator. Just want to report that closing the emulator window doesn't close the program at all, and that to start another instance requires destroying the process in task manager.

There's already an emulator for that that works just fine, as far as I know... In fact it's already on the site.

Got that one time, the savestate is not affected and i could reload it after reopenning mednafen without trouble, sound like a display/graphic crash

When i do that i get a gigantic frame, so huge it doesnt fit on my dual screen lol, anyway, even in that gigantic window the frame counter typo is the same size, generaly i use -pce.xres 2 pce.yres 2 (or 3, 4), screen is bigger, but counter still display like i use 1:1 Doc say its a multiply of original resolution Hum, i suggest a parameter in cfg file for counter size :p

Just this past night, I've been talking to the developers and as it turns out, I am now somewhat able to encode (and possibly publish) PCE runs, maybe even runs of other supported consoles. For now, it's all very hack-ish and SDL only, as far as I can tell. They were almost able to implement Bisqwit's nesvideospiece algorithm, but unfortunately, it's throwing Segfaults when converting a frame from 32 to 24 bpp. :(

I was trying to make a test avi (TSSC/PCM) last night. However .kkapture locks up Mednafen and I got some strange artifacts if I use Fraps. What did you guys use for the "unofficial" YouTube video of Granzort ? [edit] How do you exit the emulator without forcing it? Pressing ESC does nothing, also after reconfiguring the exit (esc) hotkey. For some reason I have to setup controls each time I run the emulator as if they aren't stored in cfg file.

This is actually also true of Dega, game gear games which make use of features game gear had and SMS didn't will not work in Dega.

This new version should make getting an unwanted reset in a movie file less likely: http://mednafen-rr.googlecode.com/files/mednafen-rerecording-137.zip Don't use your old configuration file with this version.

Your best bet on windows would be a screen recorder such as Camtasia etc. You might need to disable hardware acceleration to use it though.

OK, this is definitely some bug I guess. Official Mednafen don't have this problem. FYI GameBase frontend works like a charm with Mednafen. :)

This version disables the reset and power-on hotkeys. http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/679973/mednafen-disabled.zip If you still get an accidental reset or power-on, do the following: Find the frame number where it resets. Multiply that number by 11, and add 256. Go to that location in the movie file and you should see a 01 or 02 there. Change that to 00.

Oh. Forgive me for my utter stupidity/noobishness. Is there anywhere i can learn more about how to operate a commandline emulator? There is a game i want to test on the Lynx for TASing capability.

Find a file named "cmd.exe" located in WINDOWS/System32 folder, and copy it to Mednafen folder. Double-click the cmd file, type "mednafen" in the command prompt and press enter. You should see something useful. Alternatively, press Start -> Run -> type "cmd" and press enter, then navigate to the mednafen folder using "cd" command (the disadvantage is that you must do that every time).
