Extra Mario Bros is a perfect Super Mario Bros hack by ATA from Japan. It changed a lot, especially Worlds, Enemies, Effects, those make this game even more fun.
IPS Patch(to Super Mario Bros): http://HLMarioHacks.ys168.com/ (it's a English space for downloading)
Because of the old website was broken, so you have to download it from my space. Open the folder of "Extra Mario Bros", you can find "Extra Mario Bros.ips".
There are 5 areas, 8 keys, 5 extra mushrooms in this game, collecting 8 keys is important, there are 2 keys in every area except area-5, you have to get all of them to get in area-5, unless you won't meet the final boss.
Extra mushrooms are not as necessary as 8 keys, but getting those can make the game easier. Those 5 extra mushrooms are: Ultra Fire, Super Fire, Technical Fire, Space Jump, Screw Attack. I only get Space Jump and Super Fire in the movie to save time.
I played hard in this movie. Aims for fastest time, and the entertainment value was great.
The final boss fight is very special, you have to lose time to save time sometimes, I believe I had a good job on fighting the boss. Now the boss is even more powerful.
Hope you like this hack and this movie.

Hacking and TASing, in my mind, really are very compatible communities. I actually found this site by watching Saturn's first segments of the ongoing Super Metroid: Redesign TAS. Until then, I didn't even know this site existed. I also did not know this hack existed until I saw this submission. So TASes of hacks can introduce fans of one community to the other. I think this is win-win-win. Limiting the number of hacks to an arbitrary number seems artificial and poorly thought out. If there are, one day, six amazing Super Metroid or OoT or SM64 hacks, do you want to turn down potential runs of those just because someone said "this number is too much"? It's not like there's a floodgate of hack TASes coming in, and quality hacks will likely always be few and far between. I don't see a need for a policy restricting these runs unless that changes. Far better to evaluate these on a case-by-case basis. As far as this hack goes... it's awesome. It would be a shame not to publish it. I hope we see more good hacks in the future... and more good TASes of them.

In my honest opinion, this movie was boring. Just a lot of fetch questing chained with unimpressive SMB physics exploiting ("screw the obstacles, I'll just go through the wall!"). I found myself watching this movie on x4 speed. Not a good sign at all IMO. Sure, the hack itself is impressive, but we don't need a movie for every impressive hack under the sun (and those not under it for that matter).

The more I've thought about it, the more I realize that this is probably the best solution. If there comes a time when everyone and their brother is submitting hacks, we will probably have to institute a policy of some kind, but as it sits right now, they should just be evaluated on their own merits. And sometime soon I'll get around to watching this :)

This seems destined for publication due to viewer response. There are 53483892 SMB hacks, and I don't want 53483892 SMB hacks on the site. I'd like to keep the number down as low as possible. What do you guys think about this obsoleting the published air2 hack? This isn't a statement of "I'm going to this". I'm just throwing the idea out there to see what people think.
How did you know the number of SMB hacks? However, I think good hacks such like this should be published.

I disagree with obsoleting the Air 2 run. I think the question that should be asked when a hack is on the Workbench is "Does this hack have something that the original game / currently published hack does not have?" In this case, I believe the answer is yes. Extra Mario Bros. brings Metroid-style exploration, power-ups, and item collection (the 1-ups) to the game, none of which was done by either Air or Air 2. If the answer is no, that's when the argument of having the new hack obsolete the old one would be valid, IMO.
I agree with this, basically - Air is a hack about "How much do you know about the quirks in SMB's engine?", and Extra Mario Bros. is a hack about "Find all the keys! Find the power-ups! Explore! All in Super Mario Bros.!". If someone made a hack that turned SMB into a strategy game, and someone made an entertaining TAS of it, I'd say that should be seperate too.

air is more a "concept demo of what the smb motor can do" this is a full TAS of a hack, those two can't be compared also if a better smb hack is out, those this one would be obseleted ? no, i think we should keep air as a published concept demo and simply add this one as an "official TAS" but we should become very selective about hacks submision (maybe a higher "yes vote" number neded ?)

Finally got around to watching this. I had trouble searching the link that HappyLee gave for the IPS patch, so thanks to andymac for the encode. I don't have anything real new to mention about the game. I like the look, and the sound is quite good for trying to adapt a couple of the Metroid tunes. The game almost plays more like The Goonies 2 than a typical Mario game. Style could be better, like not facing backwards most of the time, but the run is still good. As for hacks, I agree with Solon. I also feel that the quality of the hack should be a major deciding factor. Although Air isn't a pretty hack, it's still a good puzzle game for people familiar with the SMB quirks. This game is still entertaining, independent of whether or not it's a hack. It definitely is more fun to watch than Hard Relay Mario or Full Moon Mario or many of those other hacks we've seen before in the submission queue.

Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! If anyone still wants the IPS patch and can't find it (because the link in the submission text doesn't go anywhere useful), there's a working download on romhacking.net (it's right under where it says "Patch Version"). Also, the patch seems to be for "Super Mario Bros. (JU) (PRG0)".

I voted yes, because I think it's a good movie that deserves to be published. However, and this is sort of off-topic, I'd really like to see HappyLee work on something that isn't a Mario game. He's good at this, really good in my opinion, and I'd hate to see him become "that guy who does Mario movies."

I'll watch the movie a little later on today, just wanted to jump in with: I'm strongly against one hack obsoleting another hack. Let each case be judged on its own, and either accepted or rejected based on a fair evaluation. I'm still for the guidelines of which hacks should be allowed, of course, based on quality, completion, and finalization. *gotta go* Edit: Left out the most important detail of hacks: quality. >>

I like playing Super Mario because it's interesting. I also play Megaman and Metal Slug, but I'm not good at making tas.

I imagine it'd be easy for you to make TAS's for them, with a bit of effort in learning their engines. I mean, you broke the hell out of Super Mario Bros. surprisingly quickly.

This hack is far more technically impressive than even Super Demo World: TLC. I'm a little skeptical that the author of this hack saved any time hacking SMB1 instead of just writing a new game from scratch! Honestly, if we allow any hacks at all then we should allow this one. Yes vote.

Thats like saying Sonic Megamix isn't a hack of Sonic 1, even though its on the Sega CD. With ASM, you can do anything. I am personally completely unsurprised that many thing from this hack were done (Such as the giganto background layer Bowser).

I see that there's a separate movie above, but are there any plans to make a movie including the special world? It should end right after getting the master key. As for whether hacks should be allowed, each one should be examined on its own merits. If it is substantially different in an interesting way, then it should be allowed. I agree with the above comment about considering if someone said that it was its own game, if you would believe them (excluding that you know it is a hack). Also, it would be convenient if movie submissions also link to the regular forum thread about the game, in addition to the per-submission thread.

By the way, shouldn't this movie be listed with Hacks/Other, instead of in the NES section? Thanks!

This run was worth watching just for the intense autoscroller at the end. Funny how a ROM hack does it better than many commercial games.

ROM hacks have all the time in the world, commercial games have to get things done by a deadline and often don't have the time for bug testing and the such needed to do this sort of thing, I guess.
