This submission is 2408 frames faster than the Richter any% #2311: arukAdo's PCECD Castlevania: Rondo of Blood in 25:03.72
Maria starts with a large disadvantage due to the unskippable cutscene where she is saved by Richter. However she is faster than Richter in every following level.
Basic Mechanics & Tricks
Maria generally needs to stay on the ground rolling as much as possible. Her "Dark Maria" attack is heavily abused throughout the movie, however in some cases the doves are faster. She can do a double jump, which allows her to take shortcuts off limits to Richter.
Hearts and health both cost frames at the end of level tally, so we aim to end each level with as little as possible. In some cases this isn't possible or loses time.

adelikat: Replacing the submission file with a fixed .mc2. The movie content is not changed. The file format is fixed to represent the new mednafen/pcejin .mc2 file format.

mmbossman: Quite a bit of cart-wheeling, but still a fun watch. Accepting for publication.

adelikat: Processing.

Wow. I've heard of it, but I've never played/seen this game before. That's a lot of cutscenes. Also, strange how with such great graphics and such smooth animation, that Maria's cartwheel/somersault looks so incredibly awkward. Does it always look like that, or is it just because of how she was manipulated frame-by-frame?

That possible, i saw weird things with richter sprite if you stress input too much (saw them with frame advance i mean) In the other submission i use maybe 2 or 3 times the key from crouch position, the result is pretty ackward but not realy noticable real time, first he arm the whip and then the key appear out of nowhere, obviously it miss a transition from crouch for key

I have been watching too much anime. I could understand much of the conversation at 8:00 into the movie even though I only have a very, very rudimentary understanding of Japanese (some words, a few expressions).

So, if I thought that Maria was attractive, is there something wrong with me?

Two thoughts about the video description: "Uses a suboptimal character?" The description and the video clearly shows Maria to more "optimal" than the hero. Isn't there another way we can put this? Rondo of Blood is not a "prequel" to Symphony of the Night, it precedes it. Prequels are sequels that take place before the earlier story. You cannot retroactively label an old movie, video game, etc. a "prequel" just because a sequel is made.

I believe the suboptimality in this case refers to Richter, since the optimal run would just be Maria rolling through the entire game. However, that would require a dirty save to have her be unlocked from the start. And you're right about the "prequel" bit; it should probably be labeled a predecessor instead. But that's really pretty minor.

Maria is the suboptimal character because without her the game can be completed over a minute faster: http://tasvideos.org/2326S.html

Any chance of an (additional) MKV with translated cutscenes and proper framerate/aspect ratio?

Shiny is working on a new MKV for the framerate/aspect ratio part. I don't know who can (and would) translate the cutscenes though.

I could translate the German opening, but that'd be about it.

Well, at least for the intro cutscenes, Shiny can do this himself because he's German. As for the rest of them, I suppose we need volunteers… [EDIT] Eh, got me beat.

Is there a specific reason that we are doing translations for this game and not others?

There is no reason to not do translations for other jp-only games, either, except lack of volunteers. Besides, this game is relatively cutscene-heavy, so it's double-warranted.

no US counterpart? Have you forgotten the PSP remake which included a translated version of the original?

But how is that relevant to us who can't TAS a non-jp version?

I only ask because I think it's silly that we go out of our way to translate the intro to a new and obscure movie while something like Bad Dudes or Metroid still hasn't been broken down for the layman.

Just in case you didnt noticed, half this movie = cutscenes, i doubt bad dude have that much glitches or that its so much important for the viewers

People are going to make priorities for the games they think are worthy (or simply for the games they actually know anything about). We shouldn't demand that other movies get the better treatment first if nobody's willing to provide that treatment for those games.

I'm still waiting for you guys to realize that neither Bad Dudes nor Metroid have any parts in the run that require translation.

"Broken down for the layman" could include discussion of game mechanics, y'know. It's patently obvious that there's not any significant amount of text in either of the games you listed, so I assumed you were looking for some other kind of in-depth discussion.

This should be translated to every language.
