Game objectives
   * Emulator used: mednafen-rr-249 but windows users should use PCEjin
   * Aims For Fastest Time
   * Takes Damage To Save Time
   * Manipulates Luck
   * Length: 87554 Frames
   * Rerecord Count: 31451
To help facilitate our collaboration we keep our movies and related files on a repository. You can get the latest version of any of our movies here at any time. In addition, we have a "failed attempts" folder that demonstrates varies routes/strats we used that turned out to be slower.
   * SVN: http://code.google.com/p/rondoofblood/
This submission is 2408 frames faster than the Richter any% #2311: arukAdo's PCECD Castlevania: Rondo of Blood in 25:03.72
Maria starts with a large disadvantage due to the unskippable cutscene where she is saved by Richter. However she is faster than Richter in every following level.
Basic Mechanics & Tricks
Maria generally needs to stay on the ground rolling as much as possible. Her "Dark Maria" attack is heavily abused throughout the movie, however in some cases the doves are faster. She can do a double jump, which allows her to take shortcuts off limits to Richter.
Hearts and health both cost frames at the end of level tally, so we aim to end each level with as little as possible. In some cases this isn't possible or loses time.

adelikat: Replacing the submission file with a fixed .mc2. The movie content is not changed. The file format is fixed to represent the new mednafen/pcejin .mc2 file format.

mmbossman: Quite a bit of cart-wheeling, but still a fun watch. Accepting for publication.

adelikat: Processing.

this is superb. just what i'd expect from Maria: fast. i love how the bosses all get annihilated with Guardian Fist. and the shortcut you used toward the end of Stage 7 was a nice surprise, i never knew about that one. even the Richter parts looked cleaner than before. it's nice to hear the audio issue got fixed as well. Yes vote.

I liked her fast action & boss battle, yes! Edit: by the way, recent "co-working via svn" style is quite impressive.

Its (nearly) identical up to block 2-3, richter was my "part" of the movie, for instance since i have less heart in richter version it goes few frames faster on stage1 Note also double hydrostorm is slower than key (450 vs 300 frames)

I voted no because the game's intro wasn't Japanese enough. Richter should have Hadokened everyone into The Wheel of Fate is Turning.

They see me rollin, they hatin... Nice movie, too bad I can't understand anything that's happening in the story. Can anyone provide subtitles? ...and this is probably most absurd ending for a Castlevania game. Yes vote

Her "Dark Maria" attack
Guardian Fist. And just like Satoryu, I'm glad the audio appears to be in sync. You wouldn't believe how annoying it is when it's not. Watching it now, will add my comments/criticisms later. Edit 1: I'm stealing your Dogether strategy for whenever I get back to any% for RoB. HOLY SHIT. Minor criticism in 4': At one point in the first section, you thud Maria on the ground. Might it be faster to jump just before you do so you don't? Minor criticism in 6: Might it be faster to double jump up to the top at the beginning (via the stairs, if necessary), then continuously roll to the door, instead of crossing all those gaps?

From memoryes on irc, it goes slower to do that jump Edit:

I asked this, adelikat is on vacation now, he did that, and originaly it was just rolling, i EXTREMLY doubt adelikat did that without improving over the roll

one thing i forgot to mention. like in the Richter run, you get Razor Bats to show up infront of you at the beginning of Stage 7. i know for a fact it can be manipulated so that none show up in front of you. and when using Maria, you're moving so fast the ones behind you will never show up. playing casually, i get this and always have got this a good 90% of the time. maybe i just have awesome luck at part. but it can't be too hard to manipulate this.

In richter case it clearly save nothing and here with frame rules anyway i doubt you save anything Whats the point in rolling the rng by loosing time (more likely) and at the end going slower... And beside, its not like those bats are such a big deal, why dont you complain rather that whe could have manipulate skeleton in stage2 to get big hearts... that would be a good rng question And the answer is the same, rolling the rng take time, so basicly you loose everything latter on This run (or richter) is much more tight than it may look, i wish good luck to anyone who tryes to obsolete it

I too think that getting neither bat to appear (or at least appear higher so you can slide under them) would save more time then it loses. But even with the minor criticisms I have, this run is still very well performed. And if I want to steal strategies, something obviously was done right. Unlike the Richter one, I'm giving this a YES vote. Good work.

It wasnt planned richter would beat maria, noone could have predict it, in that regard, richter movie was more than good, it was a speedrun but not aiming for fastest time since maria would obsolete it, its obvious they are not "that" much different and both movies are made by same peoples with same efficiently but anyway... sure this one deserve it and not the other...

Funny, I see both "aims for fastest time" and "any%" in its description.

That's better. An all-around better effort than the Richter-only submission. For whatever reason, there's a Windows navigation "click" about 1:40 into the Youtube encode.

Weird game sort of... First, everybody speaks German, but it's all subbed in Japanese. Then, all of a sudden, everybody switches to speaking Japanese, but this time without German subtitles. :D Second, what the hell is Ryu doing in the game? =D Third, why did they draw everything so silly at the ending credits etc? Nevertheless, it's a YES-vote from my side. Cheers.

Nope, this strategy is precisely 1 pixel faster than the next best method (I tried about 5-6 different variations there.
Minor criticism in 6: Might it be faster to double jump up to the top at the beginning (via the stairs, if necessary), then continuously roll to the door, instead of crossing all those gaps?
Again, I tried both, the one used is the one that ended up faster. As for the stage 7 bats, the amount of frames I lose it quite small, and manipulating the RNG costs frames. I experimented with different RNG, that was the best outcome I could get. A better RNG might save a few frames though.

Indeed, Maria breaks this game hardcore. I always found it way too easy to beat with her. But for a TAS that's very appropriate. I enjoyed it. Can't wait for a 100% run (hopefully with Richter, if only because he's less broken).

The run looks very good. I also really like this game. Hats off! Too bad Maria is so broken in this game. Will there be a Richter run from you guys? :)

It...really looks it. And...jeez, Konami, how many more games d'you think you can get out of the spritesets you have? And I ne'er knew that CotM took its menu music from this. I enjoyed it, I suppose, though I'd've sworn in one of the Drac X threads it said that walking was the good movement for Richter- I'm sure I'm wrong, though, or you'd've been walking. Weak yes- it looks too easy in ways that...look too easy.
