This is a sidestroller, speedwalk, or whatever you want to call it.
It's 11 frames faster than andrewg and adelikat's Submission #2353, 22 frames faster than my last movie Submission #2348, and 190 frames faster than my published run.
List of all my improvements:
Getting a mushroom in 8-2
Doing a bullet bill glitch in 8-3
Using a special skill in 8-4 (no one has ever named it before)
About that unknown skill, my English is not good, please name it for me. I got the idea before I saw andrewg and adelikat's Submission #2353, it's one of my original skill. It only can be use here, and it really works. It's a small bug that sometimes happends, I don't know why, but it made Mario walk on the ground with no movement. I found it about 5 months ago, but never used it before.
I think, this is a perfect improvement, it's the best I can do. I'm using my FINAL device, to adelikat, andrewg and klmz, and people who have interests on SMB just like me, please forgive me this time. I hope this can STOP the crazy frame war, I'm really tired.

Vote yes, this is an absolutely ridiculously crazy improvement. seriously, it's insane. No input = victory. who woulda guessed? I mean really I was thinking that even a 1 frame improvement might be out of the question. WOW! This is a 10 frame improvement I think too.... HappyLee, you're an amazing TASer.

Wow. Not only this astounding improvement, but MUGG just finished getting through the jump in 4-3. What limitations do walk-a-thons have, not to mention the entirety of the game?

Edit: ^^^That's been done? Oh, dear... Not looking forward to the full game walkathon. ._. Okay, I checked both submissions, and this one actually is 11 frames faster (24483 to 24472). Still don't know why the times on the site are different, though... Probably has something to do with the FCM/FM2 difference... I dunno. ._. Actually watched this submission... first one I took the time to watch during this entire war. Could this new trick be adapted for the other movies? (also voting yes)

HappyLee, you do realize that this glitch might be the key to improving the warp TAS? Possibly even many more SMB TASes. I feel like this could have some more applications. The setup may be too slow, I'm not sure though. I feel it can be useful elsewhere though.

Well done HappyLee. This trick may be useful in other places. Here's a demonstration of the wide variety of things that can occur while moonwalking. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/637510412/SMB%20Success8%20Good.fcm It seems to scroll the screen when alternating x subpixel 0400 between 0 and 240. Mario must be facing backwards, and must not "skid" when landing. (His velocity at 0057 must be 24.) It happens seemingly randomly as soon as the button is pressed to jump. You can push any combinations of buttons in the air but must let go before the ground is hit. EDIT: I did the glitch falling off a pipe without jumping just now. EDIT2: To explain this a little better: 1.5 camera units/1 frame walking 0.5 camera units/1 frame moonwalking Traversing the same distance twice walking (0.75 camera units per one frame walking back and forth, if that makes sense) is 1.5 times faster the scrolling the camera by moonwalking (not counting time it takes to turn around.) The reason it is faster in HappyLee's movie is because it prevents the piranha from spawning in the particular pipe while still scrolling the screen. I have confirmed that HappyLee pulled this trick off with the least acceleration loss and latest subpixel landing possible. EDIT3: Possible improvements left if anyone wants to try: 1: Perfect fish manipulation could maybe save at most 7 frames. 2: As seen in one of the movies, moving forward as far as possible to scroll the screen without spawning the piranha, moving back, and moving forward again. Use moonwalking in conjunction with this. I haven't figured out how moonwalking can be done with momentum to the left. I was going to be suprised if you beat our movie. Well, I'm far more suprised than I thought. You didn't just beat it, you beat it with style. Astounding improvement. Again, something I would have never thought of. I tip my hat to the SMB master. *Tips his king over*

Btw, this improvement is actually 10 frames faster, but Happy Lee ends input 1 earlier than we did.

Voting no for bad stylistic choices mentioned in earlier submissions. Sorry, adelikat's run was much more entertaining, albeit slower.

I made an encode. http://sm64.org/johannes/smb-walkathon-happylee.mkv I upscaled it 2x before converting to YV12 to prevent chroma bleeding, but the file size is still quite compact, so it's possibly publishable.
